Picola & District Discussion 2023

What a load of rubbish. . Firstly 12 president took someone’s call over a proposed meeting so 12 clubs are looking to leave . 2 turned up and it was the leagues fault . AFL hold a information session which all clubs rightfully turn up to see what they have to say and it’s sold as there is going to be a revolt at the AGM . Then AFLGm via same individual hold another information session where 8 clubs are represented and there is 8 clubs looking to leave . When that doesn’t occur it’s again the league fault , threats bs bs bs .

Thought that would get you into the discussion roar, the PDFNL greatest fan and defender!!

Could you you see some of the 6-8 clubs getting some representation onto the PDFNL board in the next 12 months, Train.
It appears to me that in recent times there have been a high turnover of board members & always vacant positions. Could be a good starting point for those clubs, or is it a case of they have had enough of or can no longer deal with the main man anymore.

Would probably have to wait till AGM , usually boards have to approve members coming in outside of AGM and hard to see this board approving anyone they can’t control ,you would have to check constitution, the PDFNL one could say anything!!.
I would say that the fact 8 teams were very close to leaving should be a wake-up call to the board, but I’m told it won’t make any difference, maybe the threat of 6 figure defamation case against the board if the main man is sacked keeps them in line!!

The original meeting was organised by Toc and chaired by an ex-league official linked to the club. The suspension came around that time.

Some supporters of the club seem to believe that the organising of the meeting was the reason. I believe the club has in the past publicly asked for the reason for the suspension because they weren't 100% sure.

Hopefully, someone here can confirm it.

Does it seem strange, or is it just me, that an “operations manager” has such a big say in how things roll in Picola league? Why don’t we hear or why don’t media speak to president or the general manager assuming the ops manager sits under the GM whoever that maybe.

Toc are a great footy club, and no ub should ever be suspended by the league unless they're bringing the game into disrepute

Picola and District: New league creation plans scuttled at 11th hour

A proposed breakaway competition made up of Picola and District league clubs wanting to remain affiliated with the AFL has fallen over.
Eight clubs keen on seeking a new home had a 6pm deadline on Wednesday to indicate a “collective” desire to leave the PDFNL, which has refused to sign a renewed affiliation agreement with the AFL.
Major sticking points for the PDNFL in not signing another affiliation agreement were nominating a “point of contact” other than operations manager Shane Railton and decreases in the salary cap and player point allocations compared to this year.

Five clubs, Tocumwal, Tungamah, Katandra, Picola United and Mathoura, were committed to making the move, but three baulked at the 11th hour.
It’s understood the three clubs which expressed reservations late were Katunga, Jerilderie and Katamatite.
The eight clubs met with AFL-Goulburn Murray a week earlier and were set to jump ship.
The breakaway competition would have been administered initially by AFL Goulburn-Murray staff and a new board of management established.
Clubs would have also had insurance cover until December 31 when the current affiliation agreement expired.
There is no indication clubs will apply to join the Murray league as happened in 2018 when the PDFNL previously didn’t re-sign its affiliation agreement with the AFL.

AFL Goulburn Murray regional manager Shaun Connell said: “AFL-Goulburn Murray and AFL Victoria have been working with a number of PDFNL clubs that expressed a desire to participate in an affiliated competition and were exploring their options for re-affiliation, after the PDFNL decision not to renew their affiliation with AFL Victoria in 2023.
“Part of the discussions involving some PDFNL clubs has been around driving change and enhancements to governance and administration models, to suit the needs of all clubs.
“Clubs involved in discussions, while expressing a desire to be affiliated, have resolved to remain part of the PDFNL in 2023 with a key objective being to keep the 15-club league intact.
“AFL Victoria will continue to engage and support any community club wishing to explore affiliation or re-affiliation, as was the case with a number of PDFNL clubs.”
The last time PDFNL didn’t sign an affiliation agreement in 2018 it led to Tungamah, Katandra and Shepparton East moving into the Murray league and Dookie United going to the Kyabram and District league.
Tungamah and Katandra rejoined the PDFNL at the end of 2019 season and Shepparton East joined the KDFNL at the end of the 2018 season.
Dookie United is still in the KDFNL.

😂 8 clubs attend a information session with AFL Victoria organised by Greg Watmore again and it’s reported 8 clubs are leaving .
Maybe you can tell us a little more on Greg Watmore the steam train , why has he now organised 3 meetings ( 2 seemingly on behalf of AFL Victoria ) and the reports out of those meeting sold a bleak picture which on neither occasion come true ?
A quick google search suggests he left the post of PDFNL operations manager in 2016 in his terms as a result of ‘ disagreeing with the board ‘ and not long after a bungled vote count where the wrong person was awarded the league best and fairest ? He is quoted in the article I read that he didn’t wish to be invective toward the board, yet his twitter account suggests otherwise .
The grapevine suggests leaving his role wasn’t quite as he is quoted as putting it, he has been white anting the league since and been making noise that the league won’t be affiliated since the start of the year as well as being privy to the affiliation agreement prior to the league receiving it ?
Surely someone hasn’t used affiliation , clubs and the AFL try to settle a score ?

Word on the street was he never stood a chance, OM role created by PDFNL president at the time who rode him and bullied him to the point of leaving, then moved from president to OM… coincidence???? Hmmmm. Talking about settling score , breakdown between PDFNL and AFL seems to have coincided with current OM applying for and not getting job with AFL….. surely someone hasn’t used affiliation, clubs and the AFL to try and settle a score??

You seem to have a bee in your bonnet about Greg Watmore and the goings on , much like the PDFNL OM

Never stated my opinion on Greg Watmore merely facts that are available online or whispers which appear to be readily available .
League had a OM previous to Greg Watmore , so role clearly wasn’t ‘ created at the time ‘ and if league president at the time and current OM obviously had multiple times to apply for role if that was their pre-conceived intent .
Where is it available that league OM has bee in their bonnet with Greg Watmore or do you know this personally ?
Your suggesting current OM applied for job with AFL , what role are they alleged to have applied for ? ‍
