Re: Piccola District football league

They can stay the Demons, it only conflicts with the confused Timbercutters/Demons at Mathoura. Could be Freo based jumper with a Pitch fork on the front instead of an anchor. Who knows!! Get creative.

I personally would have loved to see Shepp East become the Jets or something similar to try to stick with tradition, using one of Essendon's preseason type jumpers, I think it had lots of grey in it.

I can see why Dookie chose their jumper, I think it had to do with Dookie FC being the Magpies and Dookie College being Blue and White. The PDFL didn't like the idea of blue, white and black so Dookie chose Teal like Port.

Talking of clashes: a couple of years ago when Picola and Deni played off in the 2's GF, it was hard to work out! There was talk of Deni using Kangaroo Flats jumpers (green with white Kangaroo) for the final but it never happened.
The new club will need, I would have thought, to change colours and logo's as both would conflict upon the Mathoura Demons.
I believe their is a grant available from the Victorian Government via the VCFL, or similar arrangement, which has funds available, for clubs which require transfering of league.
The problem is although they are in the VCFL, they are'nt a Victorian township ???
Adelaide or Fremantle would be the obvious choice giving the availability of strips and less likely hood of clashing etc.
I notice berrigan and Mathoura have alternative training jumpers that look great, have players nicknames on the back and I think would create a great spectacle and a lot of interest, especially the nick names. !!
Some of the nick names are pearlers and might be good for the comp. as would the umps returning to having a sherbet in the clubrooms after the game.
As for travel, as previously stated, a number of Deni, Picola and Mathoura players or parents, in all grades, live or work in Echuca which is over 2hrs away and I personally think might pose a large problem for these clubs, but what is done is done.

Re: Piccola District football league

jerilderie should change there jumper no arguement shep east and dookie had to, get over it and get it done dont be like shep east 2 or 3 games into the season and still not having the right jumpers, GET IT DONE ASAP its quite simple

Re: Piccola District football league

Not sure of which club it effects but have heard from a mutual friend, Shane Railton is very close to excepting a position that was offered to him at the start of the season and again mid season and will see him leaving this league.
would be affectting mathoura, i was told from a well known personal in and around town he was to coach the timbercutters in 08 as terry blake was stepping down as coach and was planning to just play, i could be mistaken im not sure, please correct me if i am wrong

Perhaps we could ask Shane himself, I have a feeling he posts quite frequently on this board.... Any truth to the rumour pace to freeze?;)

When I organised the training jumpers we were planing on using them in a praccy match or two, just for something different and to give our sponsors a show. They are a fantastic thing to have dad's and kids alike have them, kids have their dad's numbers on them and love wearing them.

I would have thought, current coach terry blake is the mostly likely person to coach in 2008 and beyond, lets hope the club can add some depth to better cater for injuries, which all clubs experience, and return to similar, or better, form than that of 2006.

what has happened to mathoura this year?? they finished 06 so strongly yet couldnt carry it through this year, is it lack of depth??? disapointing as they had endured some pretty ordinary years with pretty ordinary coaches, pace to freeze you would no more than about nsw teams, do you think they will be able to fire next year??

Depth, I beleive, is the biggest issue the effects the results of most sides success during a year of footy.
I would suggest that with the exception of Tungamah, the leagues most rural communities struggle to maintain their homegrown players and hence struggle for depth, in comparison to those closer to major cities.
Schooling and career opportunities see the younger people at times, have very little to do with their local communities unfortunately.
I would hope all 4 NSW sides can remain and/or become more competitive as I think it is good for the league, for sides to have their turn in the sun as such.

I think you are spot on with that quote PACE TO FREEZE.
I also think Katamatite have done really well to keep alot of there home growns like Tungamah, but then again you could say that about a couple of other clubs.

Picola do well (with no disrespect) with a bit of a nothing town.

I would have thought the standard has always been very similar, so no I do not think the inclusion of these sides has assisted in the broad standard, although both are obviously well up on the ladder at the moment.
I think the PDFL has always had 30-40, some sides 2 other sides 3, very well accomplished players, the biggest difference between the PDFL and MFL or GVFL is from there on, it tails off a lot quicker than the higher leagues and as a result each sides bottom 4-5, some bottom 10 players, are huge way off MFL and even further, obviously, from GVFL standard.

Exactly, this is what has pulled Katunga and Tungamah up short this year. Both have some excellent players through the guts but their pockets and flanks seem to give a bit away. To be fair, these guys are all pretty young and should up the ante as they mature.

Re: Piccola District football league

What do you guys think about rookie of the year?? Alaistar Corry.. he is a super star. it is beautiful to watch him play..

Re: Piccola District football league

Little dissapointing to notice that some sides ar still loading up their reserves at the (seemingly) expense of the seniors.

And as a point..what happens if the Seniors are in the Top two, therefore bye on first final...what are the rules for playing Seniors in the Reserves Elimination Finals. How are the qualifications sorted out.
