mathoura beat lancaster on there home turf both reserves and seniors, big ian phillips still has it booting a few as did new big man brody lumber getting alot of the pill, everyone played really well with some stand outs jimmy hartshorn new recruit back to the club after moving back to the area, hitting packs hard as he always has centre half back special. tommy higgins well what can i say man can play that settles that rumour definalty staying on from what he has said, young guys in justin allingham and jeremy pearson calving up which is good to see considering not many juniors have come through the past few yrs due to lack of numbers, all in all looking ok and another hit out at home against rushworth this weekend. as for your coment there herb depends on blokes rumoured to have gone have, there is only 2 gone 1 we think still will actually play when getting back from over seas, the other has retired..

How are Strathy looking Intimidator? Lost any? Picked up a few?

Should be a pretty close comp, Berrigan favourites for mine at this stage, haven't heard much from them but don't seem to have lost many, if any at all.

Mathoura should be close again, depends if the blokes rumoured to have gone, actually have?

Jerilderie the big slider, rumoured to have 14 gone from last years side, will need to recruit well, but not many ins on the website.

Not long to go.

Yeah about break even I reckon, still a few up in in the air either way at the moment. Probably lost a few more than we have gained in numbers but the quality of the one's comming in make up for it, i:e Carter, Mason. The real impressive thing from our 2 night series games is how well our first year senior and thirds are fitting in and earning their spot, great to see.'

How about Deni??

Yeah fairly similar. We should still have a pretty good core, but we have lost a few. Hopefully a few of last years 3rds can take the next step and play seniors.

This Friday night, Hoppers vs Doggies in the who cares cup !!!
Who do you think is going to win and why ??
Will the result be any indication on how either side is going to go this season ???

Cheers :thumbsu:

Strathmerton won by 7 points in a very good game !! I think it will have some indication on the year cause it is quite clear that the hoppers have improved out of sight !!!
Very very quick team... 4 goals from undiciplined footy prob cost them the game...
Strahmerton on the other hand still have a few to come back in, when finals time comes around if the boys arnt in top 3 we should be very dissapointed !!

Wunghnu v Merrigum match last night was a fast running game with the U coming out on top by 5goals both sides had a few players out.
Great result for Wunghnu well done boys.

Good Hit out for Mathoura yesterday in hot conditions full credit to the Rushworth guys who looked to only have about 23 blokes there but stuck it out for the 6 Quarters. Well done guys

Any idea of how Merrigum are expected to go this year? Is this a fair indication that Wunghnu are on the improve? Or was it a game against another in struggle town?

Should Waaia & Katunga swap places with Jerildrie & Berrigan.

West League & East League???

No i think both leagues worked very well last year. Jerildere and Berrigan will struggle to attract players on a consistant basis to be competitive over the long haul in that league. What i would like to see happen is a points system in both leagues to slow down player movements. There seems to be alot of player movements in the south league. With the a points system in place it encourages clubs to concentrate on their local kids and only recruit to top up. Also when clubs decide to recruit they must weigh up whether that player is worth the points that will be allocated to him. It works pretty well in the Central Murray League.

honestly dont think that would work for the little towns, deni yea well maybe it should be inforced to those towns over 2000 people?? deni would be the only one in it. if this happens then you could win all the flags you like cm:thumbsu: will and should not ever happen not enough juniors coming through for most sides throughout league...

Heard a rumour a few weeks ago that Jerilderie Coach Sanderson was asking for more $ to stay and coach them this year. Apparently the big loss in player numbers (and resulting expectations of a long year) prompted this.

Heard this morning that he has pulled the pin from the job.

Both rumours heard in the Yarrawonga Main Street so can't give them too much credence at this point. Hope that is not the case - would be a big blow to the Demons. Can anyone confirm?

Sh%t a brick Really????? Surely No -one could do that, being so close to the season:eek:

Coaching shouldnt just based on success i.e. Flags.. Of course we all love to win one:cool: but also the development of younger players coming through the ranks.....

Couldnt be true surely???

thats what im getting at there cm loyal to me is someone like your benji's who stay at one club most there lives most the guys at mathoura have played almost all there footy here select few have gone else where and decided to come back, some haven't come back but i still dont class that as loyal when they do after 3 or 4 yrs. in saying that i love that players do come back just shows your running an excellent club i spose:thumbsu: we have had guys come back after 5 6 yrs even a few 9 10 yrs away from club and when we didnt have good numbers we had a guy come back and play after 25 yrs stuffing around in the 2's..

It still works well even with the smaller communities. Im not sure of the exact run down of the rules but it encourages teams to look after their locals and kids coming through and when recruiting recruit guys that will stay around for a while. Places like woorinen, tooleybuc and balranald have all tasted success under the system. I know you will say balranald spent loads of money over the last few years but if you have a close look at their side you will find alot of the guys have played juniors at the club and travelling back. Just another point for discussion. Your post above supports what im saying. recruiting blokes back to the club that have played junors at the club. It makes clubs TRY to develop their kids and hopefully they hang around. It seems to work for Katandra.

That's good news for the Demons and also for the coach. It would have been hard to defend him if there was any truth in it. He has now has the opportunity to see how he goes as a coach developing young players. Jerilderie should be happy they have a flag (which they wouldn't have got near if the league hadn't of split!). Hope they can pick up some players to fill the lower grades. Good luck to them in 2010.

Gee thats a fantastic statement you have just put forward there Gorillaman. Perhaps the fact that he didn't take the so called 50 grand offered suggests that he is concerned for his club and the interests of the league. Your argument in this example is not strong. In fact having such rules in place might have helped clubs like Mathoura to keep promising juniors from dissappearing to towns like Echuca and Deni. Kids like Tom Higgins (who is obviously back at Mathoura now but left for some time), Aaron Thorpe (won flags with Deni after playing all juniors at Mathoura), Not sure if he was born and bred in Mathoura, but Ash Connick definitely played there as a young bloke, to name a couple off the top of my head. In saying that i don't think that any of the above rules will be brought in, but surely if it did it would help the smaller community based clubs rather than hinder.

Back to Footy, who's gonna win this weekend?

What points system are you blokes referring to? Is it the one where local players get 1 point, a player direct from AFL (such as Russell Robertson) would get 5 points? I think all players points reduce by 1 point be year at the club???

Can anyone post the system you are thinking of?

Deniliquin Rovers
vs
Berrigan 20pts

Picola United
vs
Wunghnu 5goals

Strathmerton 45points
vs
Blighty

Yarroweyah
vs
Mathoura 12points

Good luck boys for the season opener

Apegirl you are an idiot , you piss and moan on here and claim everyone is on 50k , yet your mob are overpaying players more than anyone ever has, and offering $$ to anyone that resembles a footballer , Wakool included !
You call it developing players !!

Hard to say i have played for money my whole career. over the last 12 years i have been coach for 8 years and assistant coach for the other 4. Sure ive been paid but show me a assistant or a senior coach that hasnt.
My idea was to make some discussion about the possibilty of the points system that works fairly well in other areas. but if you think it wouldnt work then that's you opinion. I knocked back $50 k to coach hay. must mean im on some good $$ at rovers.
