Be interesting to see their points. Jerilderie do have a very large majority of their own players. Strathy quite probably the same they have had great results in their junior grades for a while now.

This is why I want to look at the points as these teams stand now.

Do you know what Mathaz points from
Saturday's teams would be?

Not sure on the points but of the 32 players that have played seniors at strathy this year at least 20 played their juniors(or at least some of their juniors) at the club. Of the other 12 a few have moved to the area for work, a few have family/friendship connections with the club and most have been with the club now for 3-4 years.

We have 10 who didn't play juniors at the club. Bode may x2 bond Hardman kannenberg Hillary Sanderson Darcy farriga. Paddy Darcy moved to the area for work , josh hillarys father played in a premiership Sanderson has played 5 years and the Deni boys have been the for 3 years. Not sure of the points but I don't think it would be a problem .
I don't like the point system works. Smart business decisions at a board level is all you need. I can't see many smart clubs spending more than they can afford . The points system stops clubs from buying premierships. Since the league split I think you would find all grand finals sides had a large portion of locals and juniors.

5 players were from echuca 3 are on there 2nd year at the club and 2 first year players. rest were juniors and locals. not sure how the points system works tho. id say the biggest difference would of been salary cap. money buys a good side and they are very good and will continue to dominate this league for a long time.

I think based on what's been said by three clubs so far mathaz would have more points than jerilderie and Strathy.

Now what that means is this....

The pdfnl's current best two clubs are successful because they are DEVELOPING very good players not because of money you think is being spent.

Or perhaps I can put it this way because Jerilderie inBreds have better football genes running through them than say the Mathaz inBreds :D:D

Maybe aflvic would be better off doing a few case studies of clubs/leagues just based on points this season to see if in fact anything does need doing. Maybe money could be better spent on something other than admin.

Interestingly just checked out the Sunraysia League as I was having a discussion with family members from the Mildura area about how they think the points system has done nothing to "equalize" that particular league.

Top 2 Sides, Mildura and Imps both on 6 wins 1 loss, both have 8 and 14 points respectively available to them out of their total available 22. So although they are a long way in-front of the bottom sides, some of which have used most or all of their points, they still have points to burn...Also Top 4 Sides from 2014 are the same Top 4 Sides in 2015. So I dont see how the points system Sunraysia FL are using helps the bottom clubs?

Anyone wanna have a crack at team of the year at mid point of season?

Some interesting results from the weekend with Blighty and Jerilderie getting up in close ones and the Draw between Rovers and Toc. Can anyone shed any light on these games?

Big win by rovers over yarroweyah and now draw with 4th placed toc. Whats changed up at deni? Players back in?

Like all sides we've had our share of injuries and have started to get a couple back which can make a difference in a struggling side, in saying that things haven't changed too much. Some might say we should have beat Toc the first time we played them at home, we had more scoring shots just like we did on the weekend.
Blighty this week and last time there was less than a kick in it, should be another good game for the Warner Tasker Cup.

I saw this on the GV thread thought I'd post it here as it has the same concerns re points system that I have for the likes of Pdfnl clubs that are in lower budgets.

It is a interesting article . I think what the AFL office desk laden decision makers also don't appear to have grasped is that sides who have the benefit of large junior player numbers who play 40 games are SEVERLY benefited compared to those that don't have that same ability due the savaging major city school based junior comps .
Another interesting point is that AFL Victoria's own records don't go back beyond 2009. It is most certainly not inconceivable for 11-12 years to have played 40 games of PDFNL .40 games being the qualifying number of games to be categorised as a home player / 1 point .
Players who were 11 in 2009 are possibly likely to be playing for another 18 years from now(35 years of age), so clubs can argue for another 18 years that players they recruit have previously played 40 games and it will be extremely difficult to prove otherwise .

Whats the story from the toc jerilderie game? No offence to toc but recent form would have suggested they should have been a bit off the pace of the jerilderie boys!
I see Sean Logie played for Toc in there win over Jerilderie. I'm sure one player can't make that much difference, but it's not a bad inclusion. Does anyone know if it's a one off or for the rest of the year ?

I seen the first quarter and thought is was a very similar game to when strathy got rolled at picola early in the year . From what I seen at both of those games both Strathy and Jerilderie were beaten by using the same tactic.
