The Rennie Hoppers wish everyone a merry xmas and safe new year. Tough year on the field with one 1 senior win but the club very much enjoyed the opportunity to be part of a great league with quality clubs. Was also a tough year off the field with the loss of our Pres in a car prang in October but we go into 2010 having recruited well, Ramsdale, Thomson, Forge, a full forward, and others TBA, losing a couple to the bank of McPhail at Glenrowan but in the most positive pre season position we have been in for the last five years. Go Hoppers!!!!!

Now that the new year has officially started, things seem very quiet in the South East.

Only real news over this off season has been Rob Wren taking on the coaching job at Barooga... how many Bears players will go with him? A few other Tungamah players have been linked with Yarrawonga & Mulwala, including Cory Hicks.

Shepp East will continue to build under Hayden Best and have already added Dizzy Gillespie for next year.

Not a great deal of news coming out of Katandra, training resumes in a week and a bit. A couple of boys may be off to uni and won't be able to make it back. Playing group shouldn't change much with Derek Hall and Wes Teague continuing on.

Waaia should again be around the mark. Whisper is Stephen Scott may be heading back to Shepp United, Aaron Shelton has crossed over from Wunghnu.

Dookie United have added a new coach who has bought out some GV players, inc Clint Dudgeon. I would assume that Dale Osborne will not be out there at all.

Katamatite should also look to be on the improve. No news posted yet.

Katunga, things got desperate at the end of 09, with Cassimaty and Fox moving on. Will need to cover these significant losses.

Rennie new coach and know what the league is about now. Thirds were competitive and can build.

Pretty spot on flag. My thoughts and questions:

Tunga - Will still be hard to beat. Have lost some good players but the boys from the 2nds and 3rds who will slot into their spots aren't too shabby. Have they picked up the Turners? Can't see Tunga sliding too far down the ladder.

Shep East - Don't know about their gains and losses. I keep hearing that some of their additions over the years haven't necessarily been good people. Haven't seen enough of the club so I'm not going to bag them. Unless they lose a few they would have to remain up there.

Kats - Appear to be well coached. No real stars (except for Hall and Teague) but plenty of good kids. Play a good team brand of footy making them hard to beat. They should stay up thereabouts. Is David Teague coming back for a kick?

Waaia - They look to me like a team on the decline (my opinion only). I've heard of one or two good players leaving them and no gains. They had a gun forward who did his knee last year - will he be back?

Dookie - Don't know much about them, their losses or gains. A couple of their older blokes up forward made a "comeback" in 2009. Good players but will they do it for the club in 2010?

Katty - Have heard they have a young bloke named Flanagan (Dean?) from Mulwala. He played a bit of Snrs with Mul and kicked a few goals at CHF. Haven't heard of any more gains and losses.

Katunga - Only hearing of some good players leaving. Not a lot of depth in 2nds and 3rds so unless they're keeping some gains quiet, might be a long year for them.

Rennie - Some good additions but they needed them. Have lost a number of good kids (moved away, boarding school) so not a lot of depth. Plenty of talk from blokes around Yarra about heading out for a kick in 2010 but yet to be sighted on the training track. Expect a vast improvement but in such an even comp (perhaps with the exception on Katunga) would be aiming to play finals at best.

Tunga, Shep, Kats and Dookie probably aiming for a top 3 finish with Waaia, Katty and Rennie probably all fancying their chances for a finals berth.

News out of Shepp East is that their coach has been on the weights big time since doing his knee, could paint his arms green and pass for the Hulk quite easily...and been burning up the track privately, might see an earlier than expected return from H. Best, providing he doesn't undo his good work on his long awaited honeymoon in the coming months..

At least if he does his knee again he might be able to earn a crust fighting as a heavyweight in the Ultimate Fighter series..

Cam Ross (Dookie) has finished uni and is moving to Bendigo. Dale Osborne is not going to pull on the boots in 2010, but will still be around the club from time to time - has given up coaching for the time being to spend more time with his kids. Doubtful that the older players who retired in 08 then returned mid-09 - Payne-Croston & Ludeman in particular - will play on. New coach Tim Feldtman is bringing out some players from Shepp with him, not sure of names.

Heard a rumour that Brodie Jacques is leaving Shepp East.

I have heard the same. Apparently doesn't want to play CHB and wants to play wing or some bullsh!t like that. Funny enough, if he was to stay he might get his wish, with Gillespie signing on.

I see that the 2010 fixture has been posted on the league website. Great that we get to start after the Easter weekend!
----

Mitch Sidebottom would be very welcome back in the Navy Blue, but knowing Mitch things will be pretty low key! Not talking about his musical talents either!

I did hear a rumour tom wren was hanging up the boots for a while?? Tungamah have lost hicks, haibach x2 joel hearn, chris kennedy, and maybe wren so thats up to 6 players out of last years flag side!!! As the holder of the last 2 flags im sure they would have good depth and attract some good recruits to the club but i wouldnt have thought s.turner would be the answer for them but each to there own i guess?

drew haebich is stayin mate

I was talking to a Waaia bloke last night and he reckons they are getting a few on the track, but might do it hard this year seeing they maybe missing a couple of their better ones from last year. S.Richo, Scotty & Tyack to name a few. Might make a bit of a dent if they can't pick up a couple. Although they always seem to be able to mix it on their day
