Pies coach says they have some decisions to make on former Docker

http://m.afl.com.au/news/2017-09-01/mix-up-with-mayne-recruitment-concedes-buckley

COLLINGWOOD coach Nathan Buckley has revealed there "were a few things mixed up" with the recruitment of Chris Mayne on a lucrative four-year deal from Fremantle.

How does this happen in this day and age? The whole football community New what a ridiculous deal this was, how did Collingwood not?

It's a bizzare thing to say. It's not like when you buy a garment based on the size on the hanger and you don't realise until you get home.

Whose the poor guy running around out there somewhere whose name was inadvertently left off the cheque and maynes put on instead

the Collingwood MO under Ed. something bad happens, imply it's someone's fault who's not there anymore. obviously having a footy program that recruits the wrong blokes is no responsibility of the president, senior coach or recruitment team who have retained their spots

Richmond once had Ben Holland and Ben Hollands on their list. I recall a story where Ben Hollands (<10 games) signed on for some promotional work while the business owner was after Ben Holland (100+ games). Sounds sort of like what happened at the Pies last year, but only if they thought the were getting 2016 version of early 90s Chris Mainwaring.

Gubby Allen apparently signed Mayne in the 5 minutes he was in charge of Collingwood's footy department, against Buckley's will who never wanted him and was never likely to play him.

The great hope in re-singing Buckley is that he now gets to control the direction of the list and who he wants to recruit. The contradiction there is he got rid of the rat pack and was apparently rebuilding the list when he was first hired.

At any other club if the President hired a new footy manager who made some dud signings against the coach's will and then was suspended for a scandal and not rehired then either the President or the Coach goes. Quite amazing that Eddie and Bucks have stayed together.

I didn't think it was a mixup, it was just that Buckley had no input and Allen just recruited Mayne without asking Buckley.

Great trade for freo, we got a pick (traded for brad hill) and made Collingwood worse.

what must mayne think...

prob don't care
$$$$$$$$$$$

Do you think that's true?
It's interesting that the AFL and the media quite rightly, constantly sell us the message of how we should be supportive of players with MH issues and yet here we have a coach and the media running with how the **** did we end up paying this much for such a spud - do we seriously think mayne would just be sitting at home feeling comfortable with all this attention

Collingwood would be the only club in the AFL that have never undertaken a modern coaching appointment process, so why would any other recruitment process there be any different?

Why the hell would he publicly admit this while Mayne is still on the list? What happens if they can't afford to pay out his contract this year? Looks like he's being delisted this year which would be incredible, but if he's not being delisted this is a pretty bloody unprofessional thing for a coach to say about a player on his list

Even if Buckley didn't have anything to do with it, it staggers me that he would say this. He'd rather have a player know he didn't want him, just so he can publically state it wasn't his mistake. Saying this only serves his own interests.
