What in the actual fk.

I don't even....
Yeah, am aware I'm swimming against the current, most see it as you do, have personally found his form this year through the preseason encouraging, was expecting worse after last season.

Not saying he is in career best form and a matchwinner on his day, but honestly didn't spot too many glaring errors, apart from not handballing off to Beams on the wing in the second and getting caught holding the ball.

If you honestly believed Lumumba was one of our best that's part of the problem with this team. He was woeful. He does the same thing week in, week out. He runs around flapping his arms everywhere, he zigs when he should zag and zags when he should zig resulting in constant turnovers via holding the ball, his kicking his woeful and he has lot all ability to mark the football overhead.

Frost has more upside than Brown? Please. Frost always trails his man and cannot take an overhead mark to save his life, such was the countless times he dropped overhead marks. Brown at least can take an overhead grab and relieve pressure when its required. Frost is always trailing in behind his man and has no footy smarts whatsoever.
Yep, he runs, he flaps and he zigs and zags. His kicking often misses targets but it is far from woeful. I enjoy watching Harry take them on but maybe that's just me.

As for Brown, when has he ever been in front??? He follows his man to every contest and then hopes to get away with some friendly scragging to win the contest. Brown is an average player who makes me cringe whenever he is one on one. All I'm saying about Frost is that he has the physical attributes to be a better than average player but we will have to wait and see. I thought he did some promising things last night.

Just on kick-ins, I remember a bit of play where we had kicked a point. There was a loose Freo player who drifted in from the flank, was near the 50m line right in the middle of the ground for a good 5 seconds while Elliott (the man on the mark) was screaming for someone to man him up or to release him to do it. No one did. They all just guarded space and didn't want the responsibility or didn't think it was a problem.

The loose player receives a quick kick in, runs through the guts and Freo goes coast to coast in the blink of an eye. I don't know whether that's a coaching/structure issue or a player/mental issue. But it was the single most disgusting play I have seen during Buckley's tenure.

I'm really unhappy with the game plan at the moment, trying to handball out of defence just builds the pressure and no one wants to take the responsibility of hitting a target further up the field. They dropped numbers back and we just played into their hands. Even in a contest they drop one player behind the ball as a quarter back and got clear possession hence why they were so efficient. Obviously Reid and white will straighten us up but that wasn't the issue last night, it's the shocking game plan and the refusal of going to plan b, aka man the loose numbers back and go one on one contested. But we didn't do that because when you play blokeslike Clarke, goldsack, Maxwell, a cat like young, sidey playing like a gypsy and a sea of young blokes it's hard to win contested footy across the board. If we can bring in blokes like Blair, JT, Kyle Martin, dwyer who embrace the contest and a bit of class from faz we might be able to look like half a decent football side.

Yessss ^^^ Marto ****in loves the hard stuff. Bring him in when he is fit. Need a campaigner in the team... So too Marley... Hope he doesn't go to jail. We looked like pussy's out there.

Tbh I loved Grundy against Richmond in preseason-had a lot of leighroy brown about him and we need that.

Even though he played one of his worst games for us getting beaten by Hampson?

Grundy - Thought was pretty good considering. Showing signs for a kid whose only played 8 games. Plenty will roast him but I thought he did as well as could be expected.

Agree, he was good and I loved the Ground Ball Pick up in 3rd QTR

I'm going to keep it to a minimum because a few senior players would really feel my wrath otherwise.

Tom Langdon take a bow. He made a few blues early and turned it over a couple of times, but for him to show the composure he did at other times was a massive plus.

Ben Kennedy. Good on ya kid giving you the sub vest after the consistent solid pre-season you had was an utter joke. However when you got on you gave us something none of our other senior players could muster for more than 30 minutes!

You know I'm going to take a swipe at a senior player anyway. Dayne Beams your numbers around the contest were fantastic, however your lazy half arsed running when Freo were in possession was disgusting! There were other culprits out there tonight, but they either don't have the experience to know better or don't have the engine to keep up. You on the other hand deliberately cheat. It's sad to see from a supporters perspective...

Yep Langdon did very well and Kennedy and a Real Go:D

Buckley:6.10.46
Lyon:17.14.116

I went searching for a retort to this and all I got was head to head Lyon 2 - Buckley 1 = 33%. On the plus side close on career win loss ratios Lyon 64.3% vs Buckley 63.3%. They're both up there among the best with only Scott at Geelong in the 70%'s (and Camerons 1 game in charge 100%) and Longmire 64% above them. Malthouse is 58% FWIW but Buckley has a 100% head to head record against his "mentor".

I dont normally single out players but Marty Clarke is at the crossroads. I dont believe he has the physical capability to play the game. He is not tall enough or fast enough. His ONLY hope is to get a role where he has to run all night.... if he can do it. He used the win the 2km runs when he needs to start running and never stop. Other than that, he doesnt have anything that can hurt an opposition. I am a little disappointed at the Irish experiment.

I am also worried about Tyson Goldsack who has some good physical attributes but doesnt appear to have the confidence to use them. He has played a lot of games and he really needs to make more of an impact.

Once again, I will raise the issue of playing several smallish footballers.... I dont like it. I havent liked it for some time. I think it is wrong to consistently pick small players in the draft. It looked to me that Fremantle had more grunt when the ball was in dispute.

Sorry but IMO Goldsack just hasn't got it. He's at his peak, which is average at best, and won't improve.

He cracks me up when he makes a mistake and gets really angry at himself then goes hell for leather trying to make amends. Just winds up wasting energy. I actually think he would improve if he handled mistakes better as the anger doesn't seem to help. That or just, you know, stop making mistakes.

2014 will be a tough year for him IMO.

You get annoyed when he tries to make amends for an error? I wish the other 21 players did this. Gold sack is far from the number one to be criticised.

Good player for mine.

Goldsack has been overrated by Collingwood supporters. At best he is depth. Does not get enough of the ball and makes some ordinary decisions when he does have it.

agree he doesn't get enough of the ball. but to be fair, he has no 'position'.

poor bugger doesn't know where he will be playing. his best season was 2012 and thats due to him being played as a 3rd tall forward for most of the year.

Also there was a stint in 2011 where maxwell was out for a good 6 weeks and goldsack took over his peel off in defense role and actually did it arguably better than maxwell. he needs a consistent position.

If he took over Maxwell's position at least he would have to be accountable and we'd be more easily able to measure the success of his performance.

I totally lost my shit when that happened. I'm surprised I wasn't evicted from the ground and I sincerely apologise to all the spectators that were near me. It was, as you said, disgusting.

Many of our players just put their heads down and ran to their "space" to protect and forgot to pay any attention to where the Freo players actually were. A couple of them had their backs turned from the player kicking in.

The fact that Elliott picked up the issue probably indicates it was player error. It was infuriating though.

Meh. He is not overrated because he is rarely rated in people's best 22 teams each year. Yet he does a reasonable job at either end when asked. He's no Reid but he's certainly no sidebottom who is overrated by supporters and the media and should cop all criticism before goldsack does.
