Player surnames on the back of the jumper will be trialed at the representative game in 2014 and will be implemented in the AFL in 2015. Free agency compensation picks will be removed by the start of next season (2014). Demetriou is pushing the concepts and looking to 'Americanise' the league.

Names on jumpers is coming. It's crass, it complicates jumpers, and it's irrelevant in a fast-moving sport where 100% of the crowd and 70% of the TV angles are too far away to even read jumpers anymore than "that's North, that's Port." The AFL said they were "considering it." Just like they "consider" everything shit that ends up happening.

But do you know what the rep game is? State of Origin or nothin'.

Names on Player's Jumpers? Good to see we've achieved equalisation...

It's not as if it's replacing an advert on the guernsey, it's taking up further space, cluttering it further.

Don't really see what it's changing in the end then.

As I said though, for all the 'heritage' value we apparently place on jumpers we sure do **** em around a tonne. Leads me to think they don't really mean much at the end of the day.

American NFL tops have their name but the refs NEVER refer to the players by name.

If a penalty is called here is how it generally goes down.

"Penalty, Holding, Defense number 54, 10 yard penalty etc" very professional

I'm pretty sure adherence to the rules and consistent interpretations of rules is what makes umpiring 'professional,' (aside from them being quite literally professional) – not whether some dickhead calls Lance Franklin "Buddy" or "Franklin."

It just comes across as amateurish. You aren't there to be mates.

Can they ever leave the rules and traditional characteristics of our game alone for just one season. Is that too much to ask Vlad?

Mission Foods are a massive part of the Bulldogs history, for example.
