Langdon (~147K forward) + Constable (~147K midfielder) + Brayshaw

V

Rayner + Dow + Naughton

Note: All onfield, though id probably bench constable for kelly and langdon for fritch/Ryan

I think the first option due to job security and cash generation.

Rockliff v Treloar v Whitfield

Scratch Rocky until we see him fit playing. The other two are close, flip a coin.

Hinkley was quoting saying that rockliff is fine but didn't see the point in playing him. He would of played if it was round 1 and now has another 2 weeks off. He will be over his injury surely. Will see him playing predominately midfield and is hard to look past now with everyone jumping off as well

Unfortunately I think a huge aspect of Rockliff's ability to score well at Brisbane was the fact that he was able to play that loose and often demanded the ball in such a young side.

He's in a completely new environment now, in a team that isn't as young as Brisbane and plays a different game style. Rockliff can run around looking for uncontested marks all he wants, but the if Port Adelaide prerogative is to attack then his scores are not going to be as high. One to wait and see I reckon

I don't think it was just the young players around him. He has a clear ability to win the ball in contested situations. He may loose mark numbers by his tackles and possessions should still be up there. He's a huge magnet, don't forget that. I think port are stupid if they want to play him anywhere else but midfield to be honest I think it could be all crap. I reckon there's a huge chance he'll go big. Why did they recruit Motlop and watts? There's literally no space in the forward line for him, he's wasted there imo. The jury is still out for me, I just got a feeling that we are taking forward position, injury and lack of games over what he can produce. We're forgetting how good he is and what he could potentially do this year.

I still think he will do well because as you said he's a natural ball winner in contested areas. However what elevated Rocky to the 120+ mark on soo many occasions was his ability to go into defence late in quarters and get at least 2-3 +6s before the quarter ended. That is the element of his game that I don't know if we will see at Port Adelaide.

With just the contested side to his game, he is probably good for an average of 100-105 if he is primarily in the midfield. Without as much of the rubbish uncontested stuff around the ground, he's a wait and see for mine.

There’s a massive FOMO factor with Rockliff because you know how good he can be at his absolute peak but for me there’s enough doubt with the injuries, new club, potentially new role etc etc that I’m prepared to give it until after Port’s bye and look to bring him in then if he’s going well. Unless he pumps out a couple of 130’s in the first two rounds, in which case I’ll be desperately trying to find a way to upgrade Coniglio to him before his price goes up.

He is at a nice price actually. I am not running Coniglio so if he pumps out those 130's in a row, will be a small upgrade on one of the high 600k type players who is not performing. Going from Coniglio is easy if you are running a Dow/Brayshaw and there are better cheaper rookies doing well.

I think it is worthwhile to start this year with at least $100K in the bank which will allow for changes like this.

I prefer the cash on the field and using 2 trades to get the outcome.

You can get away with a few correction trades at the start, so if the 100K can get you more points on field in the first couple of weeks, I will take the points. Rather than preparing for the what ifs. Because if the What If never comes?

Different strategies is what makes the game interesting though.
