Saints - Goddard?
He was the surpirse of 06
I think Barry Brooks is the saints surprise man.

Goddard wasn't really a surprise. He is a number one draft pick that was slowly getting the hang of it before getting those 50 games under his belt and dominating. Most expected him to do that.

(On Brooksy) Damn right! Could easily secure the number one ruck spot and let Gards and Clarke fight over a spot on the bench. (Sam Gilbert, Justin Sweeney and Xavier Clarke should surprise a few people as well).

Ade = Meesen
Bris = Proud
Blues = Hampson
Pies = Bryan
Dogs = Higgins
Eagles = McKinley

Kangas = Moran

I tried to pick the genuine smokey to come in an have an impact rather than just the most improved, or players that everyone expects to dominate.

James Frawley won't even play this year. He was just drafted ffs, Melbourne only rarely let first year players debut (Clint Bartram was just one out of the bag playing 22 last year) especially KP players.

You want a player from Melbourne who will surprise? Take any of Matthew Bate, Nathan Jones, Brock McLean, Colin Sylvia or Clint Bartram.

All regulars, all under 21, all capable of surprising. Who really knows though.

Clint Bartram wasn't the only player who played for the Dees last year in his debut year. Nathan Jones was also drafted in 2005 and played a handful of games last season.

For the record, Sylvia is no longer under 21.

Would agree with most of that except Cloke being captain, l'm hoping you are taking the piss.
Have you seen him play? Definite leadership potential.

Yep i agree
Yeah, it was a good call on Cox.

He's probably one of the best chances to debut, given that he can play anywhere, so if an injury comes up, he will be considered, regardless of who's injured.

But is he good enough VV , IMO he still has a way to go has talent but is behind a few for debut.

I think you'll find that despite looking laconic, he's the type that is unlikely to struggle, regardless of the level.

That's not to say he'll find it easy, but rather that he's the type who'll probably be just as effective at AFL level as he is at VFL level.

Look out for gun years from Tambling at Richmond, Van Berlo at Adelaide, Richards at Sydney (if he can stay on the park), Lovett-Murray at Essendon, the only Cloke left at Collingwood (and future captain), Brennan at the Lions, X Clarke at St Kilda, Motlop at PA a roughie and down at Carlton expect big things from the canteen ladies me thinks...
A shame we don't have Fergus Watts, M.Clarke, Gardiner and the steel of the Clarke brothers on our list. :rolleyes:

Paul Bower, Blackwell, Russell and Carrazzo playing on the ball will surprise next year, Adam Hartlett as well if he can stay on the park and out of the medical room.

Some of the ones being chosen for Essendon arent really surprises. Monfries and Lovett Murray are already permanent fixtures in the side everyweek.

For Essendon I'd be looking at someone like Jay Nash or Jason Winderlich.

"We've all seen them - on the playground, at the store, walking on the streets - they creep us out and make us feel sick to our stomachs. I'm talking of course about... ginger kids. Ginger kids are born with a disease which causes very light skin, red hair, and freckles. This disease is called Gingervitus, and it occurs because ginger kids have no souls. Kids who have gingervitus cannot be cured. Because their skin is so light, ginger kids must avoid the sun. Not unlike... vampires. Some people have red hair, but not light skin and freckles. These people are called "daywalkers." Like vampires, the ginger gene is a curse, and unless we work to rid the earth of that curse, the gingers could envelop our lives in blackness for all time. It is time that we all admit to ourselves that gingers are vile and disgusting. In conclusion, I will leave you with this: if you think that the ginger problem is not a serious one, think again."

Going by training reports, and his form in last years final series when he finally returned from injury, Nathan Bock looks very likely to have a sensational year playing at CHF, which would surprise all those who labelled him a hack only a couple of years ago.

Your right regarding Goddard and expectations. Though he did go from fringe players to one of Saints most important. Gram was the actual suprise for me. But still Goddard was arguably Saint most improved player.

Regarding the list, too many kids I think, they are really hard to judge IMO.

Higgins, Brooks Dempsy, Moran and Moloney are all good choices though. Personally I think Meeson will struggle to get the opportunity to prove himself.
