players not attending club b and f's

Geelong shafted Chappy hard and he went to the B&F, he was the bigger man.
Leaving the trolling aside, Chappy went, whilst Mark Blicavs didn't go - despite winning some award. I don't think it is that big a deal for the players.

Chappy, Pods and J Hunt all went. Most spoke and were honoured and applauded with standing efforts.

Whilst difficult, both club and players treated each other with the respect and honour deserved.

All exiting Geelong players will be remembered as Geelong players and treated with the respect they earned while at the club.

They cut his pay packet so much to fit in Franklin that he had to get his monies worth somehow.Good on him too. A classic!

It's a win win. There is no doubt we would have preferred to keep him butnot on the money & terms he was offered by GWS.
He is a p'ship player & the Swans would be happy for him to set up his life with this contract, which could be his last, as his body takes a battering & he seems to struggle with his knees.

Best of luck to him. I wish him well though we'll miss him.

I think it's important for clubs to welcome players, moving to other clubs, to their B & F nights because they were still a part of the season & have good mates amongst the player group.

To be fair to Blicvas he was in hospital recovering from wrist surgery that occurred earlier that day otherwise he would have been able to collect his best first year player award

I think there can be circumstances that lead to some players not attending their clubs B&F night. It kind of all depends where you are on the totem pole too. Your team leaders & Premiership players would have to attend, it would be expected. But if you're a rookie who has only played VFL then I could see those guys choosing to go on holiday instead.

I think it kind of depends on who you are in the club in the end as to what ramifications it has.

Mummy not only went but...

"Former SydneySwans turned @GWS_Giants Shane Mumford escorted from Swans' b&f for exceeding alcohol quota last nite. Given standing ovation"

Budget cuts at Sydney already now that they've pissed away $10m on Buddy.
Next it'll be B.Y.O water & toilet paper to training for the players.

I wonder what the decision is behind Freo and WCE having their B&F so late? My guess is that it is a motivator at the dawn of pre-season. Sort of like "see that guy, he just won our 2013 B&F, that could be you in 12 months" type of thing.

Of course, if you had it that late and a traded star who is already at another club wins it, kind of awkward.

As for topic, not a fan, but there will be some special circumstances. As a fan, you like to think they would all be keen to go, and it usually signifies the final nail on a season. After that, it's all holidays, pre-season and the following season.

If you are still on the list and still reside in the locality, you would have to have a big falling out to not go.

I don't blame someone for not going if they don't want to.

The nights not about them, it's not a bloody tribute dinner or something. It's about the club. If their presence is just going to cause a distraction, make them and others uncomfortable, and cause an abusive or negative reaction from the supporters there, then it's fair enough they don't go. Everybody will probably have a better night without them anyway.

There aren't enough venues in Perth and at the moment all the local ammo clubs are booking them out

Can anyone tell me what's the point of the B&F dinner? It's really just a "club w**k off and drinking" night is it?

Are you serious? It can be whatever you want it to be...like most things.

You want to have a drink...knock yourself out.

It's a celebration of the year mate and the hard work out put in by all. It's a chance for all the partners to come along and be a part of the night with the players in a formal setting.

You want to call it a w ank fest...go for it but that really is sour puss thinking IMO.

2011.
Jack Gunston - Tells club he wants to go home to think about his future.
Gets off plane - Calls club saying he's not coming back.
Doesn't attend B&F
Club takes away the award he was going to win (Mark Bickley award for best 1st or 2nd year player) gives it to Daniel Talia.

2013 and Adelaide supporters still cry over him.
