Players weights to no longer be disclosed

If it leads to Dutton urging his compatriots to boycott the AFL I'd be all for it.
"I'm not attending any Brisbane Suns games until they bring them back!"

Who really cares about players weights? Should we have their IQ and the size of their wang up as well?

Ooh I’d like to know the size of their wangs!!

Seriously though you only have to look at the player to know if they’re in peak fitness or not don’t you? Cornes just can’t help himself to find something to complain about.

Ahh classic AFL. Let’s not focus on the bigger issues like the rampant recreational drug use that’s rife through the league, instead let’s focus on not publicising player weights!

Seems like a top priority there.

Wonder if any player has ever even raised this as an issue or someone sitting in their office was just upset on their behalf.

Hard to believe that this is where we're at now. I could potentially see why with the AFLW because some of them are overweight but the men are seasoned professional athletes. I see the weight of a player as a stat. Not like there's a 180cm 160kg beef patty running around. 😏 Is this a Laura Kane woke decision. Trying to be progressive but just showing she's got no clue. If anything it'll just cause more speculation and discussion on a players weight. Instead of seeing the package is weighing in a couple of kgs too heavy now we can all just speculate that he's in triple figures. Has the potential to get way out of hand for something that shouldn't matter either way in a professional sporting sense.

Ah thank you, it took a couple of pages for someone to post the usual. Progress. Next up you can post about PC gone mad.

😒🙄 Here we go... Who was part of coming to this decision and why would they deem it necessary?

obviously brought in to match the AFLW where weight is a sensitive issue for players and they don't want it published.

i love the AFLW but does it now need to be influencing the way the men have always done things?

Also they are professional athletes. Part of the gig is having your weight published and also scrutinised. If an athlete weighs more than they should and it is affecting their performance you better believe it is a topic of conversation.

It is not the same as going down to the shops and pointing at overweight people and laughing.

Also even if an AFL player or AFLW player is overweight, odds are they are still considerably fitter than the average person.

Didn’t they also ban skin fold tests at the draft combine or something not long ago …. I really don’t think they are really thinking these ideas through properly

I actually like to see the weight even though I know they aren’t that accurate.

I get the AFLW players don’t wish to have weight published but I can’t see any reason to not publish weights for men.

The only players I can see getting a mental complex about it would be very light weight new recruits.

If you’re a high paid professional footballer and massively out of shape then publishing your weight is least of your concerns. The main issue would be that you’re not doing the work on the track and everyone can see that anyway (how is the AFL going to hide the fact they are out of shape - use AI to edit images on TV?)

I get the in the scheme of things it might not be a big deal but I don’t see a valid answer as to why they shouldn’t be public knowledge

Nah, height is still relevant without weight seeing a fair few positions are height dependent. I.e. you won't get a 195 cm small forward, as much as you wouldn't get a 178 cm ruck.
But what about height shaming.
They should ban that too.
Then they should ban player names too.
It’s unfair a boy named sue gets shamed for having a girls name.
