Players who are 'supposedly' good, but you don't rate

Daniel Wells. Was embarrassing last night.

this response might belong on a different thread, say, one asking for the players who make the least use of their skills/talents...i mean, there's no doubt wells is a gifted footballer and athlete but geez he's been disappointing, i got slagged a coupla months ago for suggesting roos fans must get very frustrated to see him turn it on for 4-5 minutes a quarter, then disappear....he's as talented as probly any of the elite midfielders, judd included, but his attitude/work ethic are seriously questionable

Every West Coast midfielder apart from Judd, Cousins, Kerr and Embley. Darren Glass is OK, but incredibly overrated. Judd, Cousins and Kerr are the best 3 onballers in the AFL though.

Anyone who doesn't rate Paddy Ryder is either jealous or hasn't seen enough of him.

geee ur sad. wellz hasn't played since rd 13, how did i know u were a hawk fan.
get real mate. his a super star.

based on what? he is NOT a superstar, he's a potential superstar
superstars are player such as judd, black, jon brown, chad cornes, james hird, robert harvey, andrew mcleod, blokes who've delivered time and again at the highest level and under the most serious pressure...wells is NOT one of those players, not yet at least

Who spring to your mind? Not overrated, but generally believed to be decent footballers.

Brent Guerra is number one for mine.

this might belong in the "worst players in the AFL" thread from a week or so ago, but i don't think i've ever seent his bloke actually earn his keep in any way other than the occasional one-off game where he's kicked a few goals coz his team's on fire up the ground...ian perrie...terrible kick, weak in any aerial contest, a liability to the crows

Matt Mcguire. when has he ever played an amazing game of football?

How about this one?

Round 12, 2005 @ MCG

St Kilda v Hawthorn

Magure played the entire game at CHB on Lance Franklin

Maguire - 25 disposals, 5 marks, 3 goals (including one from roughly 70m out)
Franklin - 4 disposals, 2 kicks, 1 goal

Goose picked up the 3 Brownlow votes as well.

Another good one was Round 11, 2006 @ SCG. He played the entire game on Barry Hall (their first meeting after Hall puched him and got away with it after calling Maguire soft)

Maguire - 16 disposals, 4 marks, 8 tackles (1 Brownlow vote)
Hall - 5 disposals, 2 marks, 1 goal

One hot day doesn't make a summer.
Maguire for me as well.

So Goose dominates a player playing in his debut season....so what?

Neitz.
Did you see the Melbourne effort today?

Both teams were pedestrian.
The commentators almost died trying to put some life into one of the dullest games televised in years.

The camera angles used for Canberra games does nothing to enhance lacklustre games either.

Given the multi-directional slagging Rocca receives from everyone who's not a Collingwood supporter, who is it who regards him as 'good'?
The commentators who talk him up every game

Daniel Wells. Was embarrassing last night.

2nd game in 10 weeks coming off two seperate knee injuries. Had it 22 times, butchered it a bit, but got better as the game went on.

Interesting, one of the most important aspects of the modern game is being able to take a contested mark up forward.

A.Rocca leads the league for contested marks with 46 this year, the next best is Riewoldt with 38.

Rocca's problem is when he has a poor game he is absolutely rubbish, but he has shown this year that there is no better contested mark in the game!

Blokes like Fletcher who get cheap sideways touches but dont play on anybody are massively over-rated IMO. The loose man across half back is the easiest posi to play in the game......even J.Cloke played it very well back in 02!!
