Mal Michael 'retiring' from Brisbane and going to Essendon dodging the draft rules because he was 'retired'? They quickly closed that loop hole.

Acccording to Mal on Open Mike there was nothing sinister about.

Had every intention of retiring until Essendon called. Lions OK'd it.

Lindsay Thomas owns this thread. He has three rule changes of his own - four if you consider him responsible for the ducking rule changes.
He should go down as the most innovative player of all time. Will make a great coach.

Haha but I reckon duckwood out ducked him. I actually didn't mind him, he made it interesting and copped it back no sweat.

Didnt the bulldogs kneel at qtr time for a piss and get a law made, or i had a dream maybe
You might be thinking of Tony Liberatore who got caught urinating in the player's race during a game and fined back in 2002. Not sure if it fits this thread though, I don't believe urinating anywhere on or near the ground was ever acceptable!

Were coaches or particular teams more responsible for rule changes I felt Sydney played the boundary and caused numerous stoppages making the afl change its interpretation of deliberate out of bounds

And hasn't that been a raging success:rolleyes:

As wrong as the SANFL's last touch rule is, at least it is consistent and everyone knows what's happening

Rules that have been made up on the run ans poorly executed

Sliding below the knees
The recent interpretation of deliberate OOB
Score review system
Ruck nomination rule
The recent interpretation of the rushed behind rule
The recent interpretation of the protected zone

The Dean Gore rule...the what you ask
He was paid a free against in the preseason from a boundary throw in when he was not the nominated ruck and was looking towards the middle of the ground at the ruckmen. The boundary umpire could only throw the ball about 5m and it hit Gore on the back of the head without him seeing it.

Free kick against

And I believe him, no problems, but it was why they changed the rules. Because there was that loophole.

Did they...? So Hodge would need to go to the draft if he wanted to play for GC?
Yeah he would still have to do it as if he were from Hawthorn. Mal Michael did retire, and had his mind changed, but it could be used as a way to cheat the system. GAJ couldn't just do it that way.

Didn't the 15m penalty get extended to 50m because there was some game where 10 15m penalties were given out and it was clear that no one cared about giving it away?
