Re: Playstation 3 News(Articles, Accessories, and something else) III

So some piracy is ok, it's just PS3 piracy that's bad?

Buy/hire the DVD's? Where is the line drawn between whats ok and whats not...

I think you're trying to justify the unjustifiable. Can't have it both ways

Not a judgment pro/anti piracy, just highlighting a bit of hypocrisy in your argument
First off, if they aren't here to buy or hire it makes it significantly difficult and if I want to keep up with general TV programming I like not to wait upwards of months post shows being shown to see them because of distinctly lazy Australian programming. I actually do generally plan on buying DVD's of TV Shows should they be released on DVD here (not alway a fan of online buying TBH), but to keep up with it and be relevant downloading I the only option when the wait could be upwards of a year away.

Gaming is completely different, 90% of the time we're getting games day and date with the world with generally no restrictions on buying them. It's not hard to see the dividing lines.

So if a PS3 game has a delayed release date in Australia compared to say, Japan, it would be ok to pirate that game? Just not ones with concurrent releases?

Your argument is like swiss cheese imo

Delayed vs Never coming...Do you really not see the distinction?! At the time you are assured of knowing when it will be out or at least that it WILL come out.

Exactly what aren't you getting? Take Supernatural for an example. This show has been constantly brought on and off of Australia TV over the years, no DVD release of the season that is yet to be shown here and on top of that there is no guarantee of the show ever making it back on Australian TV (if it did there is still no guarantee of it staying on for an extended period of time, seriously look up how shit it has been handled).

If I was ever assured of half of these movies or shows coming out on time then I wouldn't need to do anything to counter-act it would I? The odd game getting delayed (like your example) is an anomaly.

Re: Playstation 3 News(Articles, Accessories, and something else) III

And just in case it wasn't already clear.

This is my stance. I won't pirate for piracy's sake. I will only go to the lengths of something to that extent if there isn't a viable way of getting it otherwise, that isn't too ridiculous of course.

It's about the fact of if something is there and purchasable, why not purchase it? Instead of ripping them off and going the piracy route? If I can't physically buy or rent or whatever a movie or TV series then I have no other recourse than to go the downloading route. I still go to the movies, I still buy and rent DVD's, I still contribute my bit when it is possible for me to do so. I don't download anything because it's the free option or it's just easier than going out and physically picking it up myself. THAT is what I am against. I thought I made it obvious, but perhaps not.

I am not trying to justify one over the other, I just see different situations for one and others. And my stance is to not pirate for piracy's sake, I only do so if that is my last avenue.

So piracy must be a ok for a game with no Australian release? Demon Souls (well that eventually got here) but JRPG's etc
Exactly what aren't you getting? Take Supernatural for an example.

Pretty hard to get an illogical argument. Latest season finished in US mid May and DVD's are available here in November. What is the waiting cut off time where your moral code for piracy switches off :D?

If you download TV shows (and really...who doesn't?), i think it's a funny case of double standards for you to be high and mighty when it comes to game piracy.

Just an observation...

Yes...because your rebuttals offer that of really logical reasoning.

This is where it's at (which I've actually said from the start despite you glazing over it...). 2 examples right here and now. Supernatural Season 5 started showing in the US in September 2009 and finished in May of 2010 there is a choice for Australian TV to actually show the entire series, but for whatever reason they quit at a random episode of their choosing.

A JRPG launches in September of 2009 (or May 2010...whatever) only in Japan.

1 of these examples can be achieved and gotten to legally without any issue what so ever. Should I want to watch Supernatural I have to wait more than a year from the first seasons episode air date and into Season 6's actual start date all because some dickwad in Australian TV Programming world says "nah, let's not show it"?

If you know for sure that a title ain't coming out here, but it's released and available to buy at that point in time there isn't anything stopping anyone from buying it. I know that Supernatural is out and there's episodes out there but because Australian TV programming is ****ed beyond repair I have to miss out and wait months just to re-pick up where they decided it should end? Seriously, I still don't get what you're not getting here. It's just using a ****ing brain Mancey ffs.

I said from the start it's a different situation, there are different circumstances for movies and TV Shows coming out and really in gaming it is far more clear cut and accessible to find than it ever is in the business that are Movies and TV Shows. Therefore there needs to be a slightly different moral compass, my previous posts says it basically as well as it can be said and if you still don't get it then well you're just not going to.

Re: Playstation 3 News(Articles, Accessories, and something else) III

I don't download TV shows, movies, games or music for free

I pay for everything. I just believe its the right thing to do. I really don't care what others do, as situations are different for everyone. But i really believe that the people who work on these entertainment products deserve to be paid for what they do.

Only ever thing i got chipped was my PS1 and thats cos i was too young to care/ understand how it all worked

The amount of people who come in and try to talk to me about R4's and chipping their Wii's/ 360's is ridiculous. whats more ridiculous is that 90% genuinely didn't know it was illegal

But when i explain that its like burning movies/ buying them from Bali, the penny drops

Re: Playstation 3 News(Articles, Accessories, and something else) III

Well this thread got pretty entertaining this afternoon! :D

Thanks for your work Mancey and HBK, you got me through a very boring afternoon, earlier. :):thumbsu:

My stance is a little similar to Mancey's on piracy, actually. With the exception that I've never played (or, I think, even SEEN ) a pirated console video game.

I dabbled with pirated PC games a couple of years ago while at uni, but after 2 or 3 downloads decided that the rigmarole wasn't worth it. Especially since by that stage you could get ps2 games for 5-10 dollars from the local game exchange.

But I have downloaded enough music and television (film, not so much, as if i am home with a spare 2 hours i'd rather play a game or argue on the internet with people i've never met before than watch a movie) not to judge anyone who pirates other stuff. Hell, it's hard to begrudge someone for nicking something when there is zero chance of getting caught and no immediate consequences (for you, at least). To be honest, if I could download Kentucky Fried Chicken wicked wings and Dr Pepper from bittorrent, it's safe to say I wouldn't be getting out of bed for the foreseeable future.

Which, kinda, brings me to a letter that I read in PC Powerplay the other day which I thought made a fair point and is relevant to this discussion - I dare say most posters on this board would have fairly substantial download limits... what the hell do you spend your monthly terabyte dl quota on, if not illegal shit? There's only so much Nostalgia Critic you can watch!

edit: i also have downloaded a bunch of arcade and snes roms from years ago. but that is morally sound since you can't really buy those games no more. it would be doing them a disservice not to download them. like locking the mona lisa in a basement and never letting anyone gaze on her beauty. everytime i fire up street fighter iii i am preserving her legacy. right? RIGHT!? :(

haha, was thinking exactly this the other day. Unless you're streaming video from your basement 24 hours a day, it's pretty tough to use 200 gig on legal stuff alone.

I'd feel bad about pirating 360 games, i can afford it and feel i have a moral obligation to pay for them.

But i'd never grandstand about it. If only because my old consoles were chipped to play bali games and the like. Let alone the old days when you could just copy a mates C64 games with a high speed dub tape deck and a couple of Maxwell C90's. But i was young and poor, and i wanted to play Paperboy dammit

http://www.qj.net/qjnet/news/team-ico-collection-listed-by-walmartcom.html

Team Ico collection listed by Walmart.com

Walmart's at it again. After MAG 2 they now have a listing for another PS3 exclusive release, and it's something that should prove quite interesting for fans of Team Ico.

The retailer's online arm not only has a listing for a Team Ico PS3 collection containing both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, they're actually accepting pre-orders for it. The release date is marked for 4/1/2011, so there's still the outside chance of it being a very early April Fools joke.

For their part, Sony has been rather vocal of their awareness that many gamers have been asking for such a collection. Team Ico has also hinted at showing something during TGS. At first look it seems like something for The Last Guardian, but maybe -- just maybe -- this will sneak into their itinerary as well.

Re: Playstation 3 News(Articles, Accessories, and something else) III

Ooo, might have to get this. Missed out on the ones on PS2 and they go for crazy expensive these days.

Anyways......

Anyone played any of Sam and Max: The Devils Playhouse episodes from PSN?

I got all of season 3 (5 episodes) free from my PS+ subscription but have massive frame rate issues with it. For those not aware of Sam and Max (I wasn't until I played it a couple weeks ago) it is a point and click adventure. Story is interesting enough and some of the humour is actually humorous.
Played about half of Episode 1 so far. Frame rate issues really wreck it though. Supposeably the other episodes are a massive improvement in the frame rate department though, so I'll definitely stick with this!

You mean you havn't played Sam and Max: Hit the road??
Absolute classic along side day of the tenticle and Monkey island (2) in that genre.
Suggest you get it on PC ;)

I only really started gaming in the latter stages of the PS1 era (too young to go further back then that). Personally found them (point and click adventures) to be quite slow paced and boring when I was younger. The Devil's Playhouse is actually quite interesting though. May have to play some more point and click adventure games. Where could I get myself a copy of ones you mentioned? They would be quite hard to find these days?

New Device Could Play PS2 Games on PS3

Sony Japan recently filed a patent for an external "new generation console to previous generation console" adapter, Siliconera reports. The schematic for the device shows it has its own processor, a DVD decoder/emulator, sound processor, and graphic processor.

Update 3.50 claims to have the long awaited 3-D movie update to go along with the 3-D gaming upate that is already out. (for those with 3-D capable sets)

In the fine print it said "3D via HDMI"
My G/f's sister & her partner bought a 3D tv and PS3 for 3D but still can't get it to work via HDMI which seems can occur with samsung tv's /HDMI ps3's as I searched for a fix.
They'll be happy that it still won't work til they sort out their HDMI connection.

Yeah, my boss downloaded this the other day (has a 3D TV)

Not sure if it worked, as he has jetted off to Italy

Re: Playstation 3 News(Articles, Accessories, and something else) III

Want.

Feel sorry for the blokes with 60GB though, market value would take a massive plunge.
They're not exactly going for millions as it is. PS2's are currently less than $100, any potential device like that would be around the same price most likely, why not buy a PS2? The only way a feature like that add on would work for me was if it added trophy support, so more or less a reason for me to be playing it on PS3.

Little confused about the AC:B thing (and since I've done zero research as I'll be getting the pre-order beta anyway) but did/do you have to pre-order the game to get the beta a week early still with the PS+ membership? Or do you just get the beta for a week and then have to pre-order if you are to continue? Or is it just free access to those with PS+ with no need for pre-order?

Definitely want to hear impressions on Castlevania, a lot of hype suddenly popped up after a couple of positive reviews.

A lot more content keeps popping up and it's all remaining at a pretty good quality at the moment, certainly would've already payed off the PS+ membership price by now if you'd subbed day one. It is certainly tempting, but I'll wait and see as I'm still not sure I'd ever get around to playing the PSN games as it is.

I as an EU PS+ subscriber get the Beta on the 27th of September.
Others who have got their beta key from pre-ordering (which I coincidently also have :D) get to access the beta on the 4th of October.

Both parties can use the beta for the duration of the beta.

That is my understanding of it.

I'll try to play Castlevania tonight and chuck up my impression. :thumbsu:
