Do you agree with me that NO professional sport should receive taxpayers money?
I've answered that question many times before.

V'landys is a very smart operator and you underestimate at your peril. That’s Vlandy’s making the AFL look stupid. The AFL should’ve been able to get a much better deal for Tasmania from the national government imo.
Without doubt the government funding is excessive but the actual side is a great idea from them. The cherry on top was V’landy’s getting through tax free contracts rather than salary cap concessions. Absolutely taking the piss with that move.
I have no political affiliation to Labor at all in fact I don't even vote Labor.
But I am a logic person and there is no logic that a team in PNG makes the NRL more money than an extra team in Perth or QLD especially or anywhere else in aus. So if you think Labor is trying to do the NRL a favour they have done it in the most ineffective way possible.
They are not trying to help the NRL they are trying to pork barrel PNG because of China-personally I think that's a dumb idea but that's clearly why they are doing it.
You have been explained this before but you have trouble accepting what is clearly obvious fact.
I'm still waiting to hear how the extra $310 million given to the NRL clubs in Aus and Pacific development helps Australia? I mean it's only $310 million, more than triple the afl's annual spend on grassroots development across our entire country, in some places where the Aussie dollar is worth triple the amount of the local currency too.

Precisely this.Besides a the clubs getting a cash injection, I don’t see how this helps the NRL.
It will bring average crowds down
It will thin out the playing ranks
It will likely see the PNG team uncompetitive for a long time, meaning more one sided games
The fete of the team lies with the government of a corrupt third world country
Happy to do something to help minimise China’s influence in our region, but not sure it actually benefits the NRL.
Precisely this.
The PNG team still has to play 11 or 12 away games throughout the year.
Those are away games that are taking away from a Sydney team hosting another Sydney team with a derby crowd and competitive game, a theoretical possible top of the table clash on a Thursday or Friday night that would have been played, etc.
Happy to do something to help minimise China’s influence in our region, but not sure it actually benefits the NRL.
Couldn't the same allegations to a lesser extent when the AFL agreed to play games in China?Australia amongst other nations boycotted sport with South Africa in the 70's and 80's because of apartheid.
Homosexuality continues to be illegal in PNG. Sporting sides Internationally should be boycotting playing in PNG, just like they did with South Africa during apartheid.
So why is the Australian Government falling over themselves to give money to this PNG venture? And why are the Australian Government and the NRL so willing to ignore a blatent human rights issue?
Probably. Much more sustained effort and much more money by Aus Govt into this venture though.Couldn't the same allegations to a lesser extent when the AFL agreed to play games in China?
The same accusations could be aimed as some African and middle East countries as wellProbably. Much more sustained effort and much more money by Aus Govt into this venture though.
Isn’t Homosexuality illegal in 1/3 of the worlds countries? The same accusations could be aimed as some African and middle East countries as well
I don't know. I haven't counted themIsn’t Homosexuality illegal in 1/3 of the worlds countries?

NoAre the AFL in China now ?
Did the Australian government pump money into AFL in China ?
You are really clutching at straws in your anti-AFL agenda.
I suggest you read again as to why the Government are bank rolling a NRL team in PNG.
I point out
facts which struthious posters don't like.
I have championed a AFL team in Canberra from day one.
If you don't like my posts put me on ignore.
It's really that simple.
Put me on ignore if you don't like my comments its really that simple. There why did you attempt to link AFL with China ?
Why do I need to re-quaint myself with the delusional idea that wasting $650 million on establishing a NRL side in
the dark hole of Port Moresby will in some way stop the Chinesse from gaining influemce in PNG when Australia cannot manage the growing influence of China in Australia and indeed in the current political climate isn't it better to foster good relations with China rather than provoke them outright with ridiculous provocations.
the repetively old tiresome and irrelevent musings. No facts included.
You'r still not liking the facts of Australian Football in N.Z.
despite numerous references.
Many people consider AFL Canberra as sustainable
Most people don't consider NRL PNG as sustainable
Then i get great delight in showing how ridiculous most of them are.
that you are indeed a troll (IMO)
