the danger is he is probably running for a reason. Maybe he has a gun stuffed in his pants like that last idiot i pointed out. He may not be a danger to police right there but he is obviously a danger to the public

When he gets that gun out and starts waving it around, then you can start thinking about bringing him down. In fact, in that case **** the taser off and get your own gun out.

so u see no problem with people driving around with a gun as long as they arent waving it around? That scenario works wonders in the USA:rolleyes:...We have gun laws here for a good reason! People that are driving around with them carry them for a reason and should be in jail

no, becuase in general, tasers are non life threatening. I could be worng but i think this is the first death by taser in australia? they are designed to immobilise, not kill. if he was tackled to the ground, hit his head and died due to brain injuries, would u also say that tackling him was unnecessary?
Tasers are only supposed to be used to protect oneself or another person from the threat of imminent harm.

They are definitely not supposed to be used to apprehend someone running away from half a dozen officers.

That would be a poor guess - Obviously haven't had any run in with pigc*nt pricks or being stereotyped by the pigs in blue before.

Sometimes they just want to chase, hassle and arrest for the sake of it - Last time I was arrested (official charge 'Disorderly Conduct' - i.e they had nothing but slapped me with a 'their word vs mine' charge. I didn't do anything but I couldn't prove it)

tell us more about this! So the cops turned up asked u a question and u decided to run instead? What did they wanna speak to u about, and why did you think runnning was a better option?

seriously interested!

It's not yet established exactly why he died. It's unlikely to be the taser as such, it's most probably a combination of factors of which the taser will be one.

As far as tackling him to the ground goes, it's a far lower risk because a person being tackled still has muscle control and reflexes to help break their fall. When you hear about people falling and hitting their head and dying, it's usually because they've been knocked out (punched) and don't have that reflex defense.

It's the very reason why tasers are not supposed to be used on someone running away.

A couple of points champion:

1. As other poster have said: Tasers are meant to be for self defence
2. Should they let him run away? No, but that doesn't mean it's okay to taser him. Chase him and apprehend him. If he's to quick then go and call for back up or polair or whatever
3. You do know he was simultaneously capsicum sprayed and tasered 3 times right? Surely 6 cops is enough to apprehend one person?
4. Tasers are lethal. I think it's 6 deaths so far and many all over the world. It's a small percentage but that can cause fatality. Stealing a pack of biscuits and running away is not even near enough reason to taser someone.

It's people like you who support police abusing their power that enables them to keep doing so.

Why is it that you don't demand our police to be better at their jobs?

Why?

so u see no problem with people driving around with a gun as long as they arent waving it around?
No, I think that would be a problem. However, the solution to it is not for cops to randomly taser people just in case they have a gun.

That scenario works wonders in the USA
No, not really. Most cop shootings in the US come from routine traffic stops, which is why they approach them in the way they do.

Yes, but we can't go around tasering everyone just in case.

VERY simple explanation into how not to get tasered/sprayed/chased.

DONT RUN AWAY FROM POLICE

I get it, u guys dont like cops...so dont give them a reason.

I reckon i had that concept worked out when i turned about 8 years old

"Tasered the f*** out of"

I'm willing to bet money that it won't say that! :thumbsu:

I've seen a report (confirmed or not I don't know) that he had been on some sort of two day drug binge. Add to that the sudden physical exertion of being chased and you're already into the territory where people sometimes die. Add to that pepper spray. Add to that taser. Add to that (presumably) the cops jumping on him once he went to ground and you've got a textbook case of positional asphyxia - which could also have happened just by tackling him to the ground without the taser being used.

To take all that and just say "the taser killed him" is too simplistic and unhelpful to the debate over taser use. The taser was probably a contributor, but it alone didn't kill him.

man shot by police in sydney.

Lets all guess the circumstances before we read about it tomorrow.

Lock me in for, previous convictions/known to police, and threating someobody with a knife or gun.

From reading that it's not even clear that it was police who shot him. It talks about "police involvement" at the start but the actual description of events doesn't have police getting there until after the shooting had happened.

ahh yeah makes sense, it said involved in shooting, i misread it

A MAN shot dead by police in a busy shopping centre was being pursued after an armed robbery and a carjacking in western Sydney, police say.

gee i wasnt far off was i. what a suprise. Another upstanding citizen running from police. Robs somebody at knifepoint then carjacks someone else at knife point. im i the only person here noticing a similarity between people that run from police?

Not talking about this situation specifically. Talking about your bizarre idea that running away from police means the cops have carte blanche to use extreme force and/or kill you. Y'know, just in case you're dangerous.

Let God sort em out.

Or 22 year olds with 16 weeks training, a number of days of which was dedicated to using their sidearm.

But if you ever need anybody to climb over a fake wall using a handily pre-placed netting arrangement, newly trained police are your best friend.

They end up dead?

Yes, the police should kill everyone who runs away from them.

It would be stupid to stop at those who "run"away.
What about those who turn away?
They are obviously concealing something.

Kill em' all I say.
You can never be too careful in this day and age.
