Poll- best 10 club teams in history

Celtic Park holds almost double what White Heart Lane does? You think making the final 8 in Champions league makes you guys a bigger club than Celtic?

Probably just jealous that all you could manage was the UEFA 'conselation' cup while Celtic has won the real deal :D
Yes but to be fair, Parkhead's a piggery.

I nominate the 1980-82 Aston Villa team. European Champions baby!

Poor old borgsta is showing his ignorance here , Celtic are comfortably bigger than tottenham in pretty much every area except probably the current leagues each play in. The most astonishing fact of that European cup win by Celtic is the fact that each player lived in about a 10 mile radius of Parkhead.

I said Tottenham are a major club? Where is that mate.

I just laughed at Celtic being a major club. It isn't and hasn't been for a long long time. It's hard to think of a more irrelevant league that the Scottish league.

They may not be a major club but are comfortably bigger than tottenham.

I feel embarresed for the OP

No option for 1965-1977 Celtic team?

Between those years Celtic won 10 league titles, 8 domestic cups, 6 league cups and the European Cup in 1967.

Most sucsessful era for a major club in history, especially considering that other major clubs at the time such as Real Madrid had huge financial resources and government assistance on their side.

cats81 made a very reasonable point re Celtics period 1965-77, he is spot on. ( They actually threw another Euro cup away.) You have jumped straight in with the arrogance. Have another think.

If the Scottish league was relevant during that time I may have. But it wasn't, still isn't and never will be.

Winning the European Cup was a fantastic achievement but it doesn't make them a major club.

Celtic arnt a major club?

"Celtic's home games attracted an average attendance of 58,149,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Celtic_F.C.#cite_note-0 making Celtic third only to Manchester Unitedhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Celtic_F.C.#cite_note-1 and Arsenal in average attendance for any football club in the UK."

So you are by virtue saying that Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton, Tottenham and Aston Villa are not major clubs?

In the past 10 years Celtic along with Barcelona are the only two teams to receive the FIFA fair play award, Celtic due to having such a large and well behaved support in European competition "80,000 fans at the UEFA cup final in 2008 in Seville".

They are also estimated to have a supporter base of over 10 million people.

I dont know how you constitute a major club but I along with most informed followers of assosiation football would constitute Celtic as one.

Celtic and the Scottish league were not relevant at the time?

Celtic were the first team from the United Kingdom to win the European cup. Before Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United. That made them a hell of a lot more relevant to everyone outside of England than any English clubs. At the time the Scottish league was of a better standard than the English league, this is why Celtic won it in 1967 and came runner up in 1968.

How about you do some research next time you want to 'lol' at one of the most succsessful football clubs in history. Then you might not be shown out to be so ignorant of football history and what constitutes a major football club.

to be honest do you think Celtic would have any chance beating any of these teams right now, well maybe Villa

Does the quality of the teams current squad in one season dictate the club as a whole?

That has nothing to do with it being a large and important club

LOL this argument.

Borgsta is saying that the Scottish League is largely irrelevant (which is for all reports true, and its not because the league is generally only between two teams each year, its because both teams, and the league itself, are very weak in quality which is shown by the Scottish teams performances in Europe over the last few years) and quality of players.

Winning the EC was a great achievement (and would probably be top 10 in terms of club achievements through history) but to suggest that the team was top 10 all time is lol becaus they won the EC a few times. A lot of the Yugoslavian teams over the 80's IMO have far better shouts for the title.

Also, wtf? why no mention of the current Barcelona team, or at least its 09' version winning every title they have contested. You might argue they have the best players, but most of the current side came from the Academy (only Dani Alves, Villa, Maxwell, Pedro and Masch) were really just bought in out of the regular starters. They won every comp in 09 they entered and in Lionel Messi one of the best players with some of the best records of all time.

I don't think the 1970's Bayern team should be in the top ten - despite the presence of some top players.

Their European cup win against leeds was laughable and I have doubts about the referees in some of their other matches around that decade.
