Finishing 2nd is as good as finishing first in terms of chances to win a flag post the 2004 PF home MCG game rule change. The Hawks made GF's finishing 2nd in 2008, 2014 and winning a flag and it wasnt until 2015 that they were good enough and battle hardened to make the GF from 3rd. Geelong made a GF and won a flag from 2nd in 2009 and 2011. Swans won a flag from 3rd in 2012 but they beat Adelaide away in a QF.
