And that comes down to junior umpires not being willing to put their hand up to learn the trade at amateur and lower grades because of the crap they cop at grounds and online.

In the men's comp, it took Freo until the 10th Derby in their 5th season to finally beat the Eagles.

The first 2 games were big losses then the next 6 games were in that 4 to 6 goal range, the 9th loss was by 4 pts after Freo stuffed up kicking badly for goal - 13.20. Then they smacked the Eagles by 8 goals. Since that 10th game the record is 25-24 Freo's way.

Given the women's showdown only happens's once a year, I reckon it will take until our 5th season to beat the crows, unless we play them in a finals game this year and/or next year. Squaring the ledger from a 0-4 start will be easier than from a 0-9 start, but it will take time.

2022 60 points loss - 3 scoring shots to 23, at Adelaide Oval
2023 30 points loss - 8 scoring shots to 18, at Norwood Oval
2024 14 points loss - 10 scoring shots to 14 at Alberton Oval

The trend is in the right direction, but we will need Lauren Young and a few others of the highly rated youngsters, to get a few more games under their belt, become battled hardened, and better skilled to knock off the experienced crows. Next year's game will be at Norwood or wherever they play their home games, so that will be against us as well.
