AFLW Port Adelaide vs Essendon - Round 10 @ Alberton

Essendon only beat Sydney by 4 points, who we beat by 66, and if it wasn’t for a clear goal that was called a behind, they would have lost to Sydney. Sound familiar after yesterday???

I really want to win this one and I reckon the girls will be absolutely desperate to because I saw up close how much they were hurt after yesterday.

2 wins and a draw for our first season would be liveable.

Really want to win this one. Has the club asked for a please explain as to why Gemma's goal was called a behind? Goal ump didn't signal hit the post and it went through.
In possibly the most AFL move you could imagine, they signed off on it being a correct decision based on the behind the goals footage that DOESN'T SHOW THE POST THE BALL WAS MEANT TO HAVE HIT.

Imagine if Collingwood had been on the receiving end of that!!! But because it was only Port, all good.

It seems like as I get older the AFL gets more like real life: there's an inner circle of people/clubs who get every break, against whom even the slightest injustice is investigated and rectified to the full extent possible, and then there's the others for whom it's just bad luck, nothing to be done, oh well.

Quit bitching about it. The AFL can't give us special assistance to get all three of Lauren Young, Shineah Goody and Molly Brooksby (who are all part of our NGA and the first two are considered top 5 talents in the country) if we do better than teams that have been around for a long time like West Coast.

What our inclusion is meant to do at this stage of the game is neuter the dominance of Adelaide, who have won three of a possible five premierships and played in the GF in four of them, because they had access to an area which might not have been as rich in talent as Victoria but they didn't have to share between 4,6,8 and now 10 teams. And we can't do that if we just go to a standard draft where Adelaide gets to pick a top five talent with some ridiculously high draft pick.

We won't get a fair crack at it until we can demonstrate we can match it with Adelaide.

I kinda get it for the men's - the AFL is controlled by broadcast rights and the broadcasters make their money from their Victorian audience. The TV audience for the W though makes this a non-issue, and they could actually instead promote a level playing field and maximise their reach. I guess old habits die hard.

I have no idea what this post is about. Who's talking about going to a standard draft?

Laughable.

Alex Ballard out 😔 she’ll be a huge loss. She has been an absolute rock in defence, and this will be our first game without her so it’ll be very interesting to see how we hold up with her missing.

Thought she'd been a little quiet the last couple of weeks but she's a huge loss none the less. Had a great season.

Had a shocker vs Norf but I thought she was good vs St Kilda.

I think similar to what's happened with Hannah she was allowed to run rampant early on, then opposition coaches have adjusted, and in response she has had to adjust. Good teams will force her to be accountable and rather than just allowing her to scoop up 30 intercept marks a game.

I can definitely understand that finishing lower will put us in a better position, but it doesn't change the fact that AFLW umpiring is simply not up to scratch.

We don't want to end up in a position where we get all those players, put together an elite list, get in to a grand final, and get robbed by the same levels of incompetence.

Sarah Goodwin, Amalie Borg and Ella Boag will most likely all come out of the side this week due to Year 12 exams.

Amalie Borg on Sportsday SA last night said she isn't doing exams as she changed courses after being drafted so is only doing 2 subjects and not 4 ATAR subjects that require exams for uni purposes.

Official forecast for tomorrow...

Partly cloudy. Very high (95%) chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm, possibly severe with gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall. Winds easterly 15 to 25 km/h tending northeasterly 25 to 35 km/h in the morning then shifting west to northwesterly 35 to 45 km/h in the late afternoon.

Not sure if that helps our girls us at all.
