Autopsy Port defeated by the Dons

Jack Watts is either relatively unfit or he runs really hard. A couple of times, when he took a mark in F50, he was really hoovering oxygen.
A couple of times he did a number of repeat sprints from one side of the field to the other before getting the ball or impacting play. Hard to say how often he did it watching TV but certainly got to see it a couple if times.

THE simmering four-decade feud between Kevin Sheedy and Robert Walls has erupted again, with the Essendon coach yesterday lashing his former opponent and rival over his constant criticism of AFL coaches.

Sheedy said yesterday Walls lacked credibility after two of the clubs he coached went "out of existence" and claimed his two-year stretch at Richmond was a "waste" of time.

Is Sheeds one of Khaleesi's dragons because he's spitting straight fire here

Lol Walls, bad habits. Watts has already been covered.

Motlop:
Most distance covered at high speed 2.9kms
Most sprint efforts with 35
2nd most repeat sprint efforts with 6

Also
Jack Watts 24 pressure acts (4th in game, 2nd for Port)
Steven Motlop 21 pressure acts (6th in game, 3rd for Port)

They're doing a lot of work for almost 0 reward, thanks to our hoof handed and tissue box footed midfielders.

Two easy scape goats for someone who already has a low opinion of them

I was surprised at how many people on here weren't worried after watching Brisbane on Saturday?

The Lions weren't the same as they were against us. They really played smart disciplined footy against us. They never lost their composure and kept on fighting, even when we were smashing them.

People love focusing on the negatives after a loss cause it’s easy to point to them as the reason why we lost, but I have to say there were certain passages of play where we carved those campaigners up and it was beautiful to watch.

Our task is to eliminate the bad. Because the good is very, very good.

They had more passages than we did though

JACK Watts and Steven Motlop drifted back into old habits on Sunday according to Robert Walls, with the AFL great slamming the Port Adelaide recruits’ “lack of urgency”.
The Power suffered their first loss of the 2018 season on the weekend, going down to Essendon by 22 points at Etihad Stadium.
On paper, Watts and Motlop mightn’t have been the Power’s worst players, with Watts booting three goals and Motlop finishing with 15 disposals and four inside 50s.
But Walls, who attended the game, claimed that both Watts and Motlop lacked energy throughout the contest — an unfortunate trait that marred their stints at Melbourne and Geelong respectively.

Unfortunately everyone lacked intensity.

What I was amazed about was how many Essendon supporters were heckling Watts the entire game.

Forget being the whipping boy of Melbourne, he's the whipping boy of Victoria. Best thing he could've done was to get out of the state for a fresh start.

3 goals and 4th highest pressure acts. Walls doubling down on his earlier pre season prediction that Watts would be a flop. If people held this clown accountable to his predictions and claims he would be well out of the media by now.

I saw someone on twitter suggest that Walls and The Shouter are one and the same.
Well I guess they both despise and rubbish Port, especially our recruiting and they both have a soft spot for Carlton.

Zero chance that Walls knows how to use Twitter though. Probably still struggling to figure out how to work his new-fangled Discman.

Being at the game and listening to SEN this morning i noted something that Tim Watson was saying:

Defense's this year seem to be playing stay at home roles more so defending the goals rather than attacking through zones pushed up around the 50 and half-bank lines. He noted West Coast, Richmond and Kangaroos as examples of defense's this year that are staying solely back as a 6 man unit a lot more which Brisbane and Geelong did so well through their premiership era's. Bulldogs were used as the example as the attacking defense which relies more on zones.

What I noted against Essendon was we played that more attacking defensive style as a zone. Essendon were able to win the midfield battle and seemed to have so much space on the wings and centre of the ground meaning they quite easily pierced our zone and we were left with 1 on 1 or 2 on 2 behind the zone were Stewart was able to win marking contests or Stringer, Green, AMT were able to exploit us on the ground with so much space and an inability to apply structural pressure on these guys.

Do we have the players, gameplan etc that would allow us to change to more of a 6 v 6 defense that is further back closer to the goals like West Coast and Richmond or do we keep persisting with this zone game plan where we will get exposed if we continue to lose the midfield battle (likely to occur with Ryder out).

With Geelong lacking decent tall forwards, we don't want them dominating the midfield battle, getting the ball over the zone and having their forward line beat us on the ground and in the air by having so much space around the goal line to the 30/40m areas. I would like us to push back the defense this week and even if it means more time inside 50 for the opposition, applying pressure and getting clearances from the defensive area could easily set us up better as an attack rather than a high half back zone.

Take this dickhead with a grain of salt.. he's dementing. He tipped West Coast to win the wooden spoon who are every chance to finish top 4.

Liked for “dementing” as verb.

How hard would it be as Robert Walls' sub-editor? Having to work out that when he writes Rod Galt he means Jack Watts and Vin Catoggio is Steven Motlop.

For all we know he picked on two different players.

If everyone in the media was held accountable for their predictions it would be crickets every time you turned the TV on or picked up a newspaper. ;)

Heaven is beyond this world, though. But FoxSports Brazil gets pretty close. Its SAP has only the stadium background noise on. It is so good!

You can wait the whole season and you won’t see a sides like Sydney or Richmond put in two weeks of football like we have over the past fortnight.

We are a long way off.

Sydney went 0-6 last year and Richmond lost to St Kilda by 15 goals.
