Van Berlo is simply an athlete a 'daddy long legs' as I like to call him like Adam Simpson, will never hurt an opposition and I don't see any fantastic leadership qualities in him, though I am sure this will be rebutted.

I assume you didn't actually watch him play in 2008 if you think he never hurts oppositions.

His off-field leadership qualities are immense on he is uncompromising on-field so I'm not sure what more you want him to do.

The Power players didn't want Tredrea as captain either. Remember when Tredrea was the only one who voted for himself to be captain?

Basically, Tredrea was installed as captain much to the behest of the playing group over the last couple of years.

That would perfectly explain their 119 fiasco as well as their utter complete capitulation in 2008.

I dont think I have ever heard SAs greatest modern footballer and Parklands used in the same sentence. Apart from training. Can you give us a hint as to us what you mean? Although not a saint I think you are getting some players confused.

As for Bicks, he was a fair footballer, tough but fair. With one black mark on his name. Surprises me that a Port supporter could condem Bicks. The way he played would fit right in with Fos's ethos. But I guess a few years watching the Powder Puffs and that is forgotten.

BTW to those of you yapping about the Warrinator I strongly suspect you're going to have something to complain about as he inflicts PAIN on your players. In the trial against Freo Byron Schammer tried to line him up as he was going for the ball and came off the worse for wear. Dean Solomon also copped a thunderous bump from our skipper.

It will be no more mister nice guy. He'll hurt you on the score board and he'll keep your trainers busy.

Tredrea has been finished for a few years, inconsistent form and lack of fitness has curtailed the latter stages of his career. You can't honestly think he's still one of the premier forwards in the competition, he hasn't averaged multiple goals a game since 2005. Doesn't have the leg speed or fitness to dominate the AFL ever again. 2009 will be his last year as captain and possibly last year as player.
