Port requests for Gold Coast to change home guernsey

I hope Port succeed despite David Koch
The more people side with Gold Coast in this, the more I believe it's got nothing to do with any sense of "justice" or "fairness" and everything to do with a fear that Port might actually make this work.
This might get you likes on the Port board but all I see are tears.

I do admit to a feeling of schadenfreude

He wants maximum benefit for Port Adelaide since this is our baby - and fair enough. What has Gold Coast brought to the table to make this game a success? If they had contributed anything of notable value to the game other than a tenuous link to Tourism Australia and the gift of their presence - which we paid for - then I could understand why people are on their side. When Hawthorn/Melbourne move games I'm pretty sure they don't get paid by the opposition for the privilege of playing them.

You make it sound like your club had put in one hell of a lot of time, energy and resources into this single meaningless game.

Wouldnt you prefer they put the same level of focus and amount of energy into trying to get you lot back into the 8?

GC enables this. Without them you wouldn't have this game.

What I find funny is Koch is trying to throw out the ultimatum, change or you won't be back next year. If the AFL smell a chance to cash in on this, and if Gold coast being Red & yellow are a way to do this, Port won't have a choice BUT to play the Suns. The AFL will simply schedule it and Port will just have to suck it up.

I think what Port's doing is great, trying to find another revenue stream and really, not many bigger players out there than China. I have no doubt this will benefit the Suns, Australian tourism is potentially going to benefit, the AFL will benefit and Port will benefit. It's a win all the way around. Koch just needs to shut up about the jumpers and enjoy what should be a profitable venture

That's a very narrowed minded comment.

Why? Surely you are at least sick of Kockies grandstanding and any distractions his ego drivien rants cause the playing group, especially after last year, or do you think it has no effect?

Im interested in all of these business partnership and would love to see a breakdown of how said partnerships benefit the footy department Vs benefiting D.Koch.

Oh yes... Last years 10th place finish on the ladder was all the work of Koch. Yeah nah...

They've brought the only thing they need to, and the one thing that you absolutely need! - they've agreed to move their home game and given you someone to play!

Out of all the teams that Port could have played in China, they choose the team with the Chinese national colours. D'oh.
They should've picked Sydney instead. Sydney wears the colours of the Japanese flag, so they would have been booed all game long.

The first thread in the history of Bigfooty where most of the neutral posters are actually rooting for the SUNS?

People must really hate Port.

Personally don't hate Port, but the stuff up in the contract by Koch and now his blathering over how the Suns must wear the away strip for their Home game is hilarious.

Port need to be very careful how they handle this.
If word gets out to all these business/government relationships they have formed, or even the local people, that they are trying to stop the other team from wearing their jumper because it has the Chinese colours in it then things could go sour. As others have mentioned, things work differently in China, they are very fickle and things can change at the drop of a hat. Port may be best served by dropping the issue, need to remember the main sponsor is already peeved that they weren't allowed to buy a majority stake in the Kidman property, hopefully the minority stake they did get is enough to keep them happy.

If a foreign sport came here to play a one off and one team wore green and gold, I wouldn't necessarily go for them. Why judge the Chinese as being dumb and colour blind?
The Chinese are different then we are like that.

Would be hilarious if GC leaked this to the Chinese press!

Hmmmm mass generalisation. Port should back their brand in.

Yes demograhics, and cultural traits and trends are generalisations.

For example, the chinese tend to play mobile phone games in portait mode, not lsndscape like westerners.

Saying that diesnt imply that no chinese eople play in landscape, or westerners in portait; but understanding this phenomina will help you market a game in China more effectivley.

The chinese are highly patriotic and have a strong allignment with those colours. Not ever Cinese person will care; but I would expect it will have an impact on many. Which is presumably why Port dont want them to weat it.

I'll admit, I'm more likely to follow a club I know nothing about if its colors are Black and Yellow or nicknamed the Tigers. I've heard stories of Glenelg supporters following Richmond, and Port Adelaide Magpies supporting Collingwood before Adelaide/Port Adelaide joined the competition. I know of Collingwood fans who support Juventus for the same reason.

Supporting a club you know nothing about based on color isn't just something Chinese people are prone to do.

N
They can't win 36 SANFL premierships without cheesing off a lot of the opposition.
Not really sure that the opposition AFL clubs could care less about port winning a whole bunch of SANFL games. If they had won 30 odd AFL premierships maybe there would be some tall poppy syndrome. Port copped a lot of BS when they were the newest club in the league and it was the popular thing to pay them out but that seems to have shifted now to GC and GWS. Seems like its part of the initiation mentality.
