...
Can you explain why trying to take on a player (something that might work) and losing is less of a sure turnover than kicking it to 4 Dockers players without a Port player anywhere near them (something that definitely won't)?
....

I've only seen the 1 live viewing of the play, so until I can review it and from memory:

- the 4 Docker players were hovering around the 45-50m line at CHB... and there was plenty of space between Wingard and the goal... except for the 1 player pressuring Wingard to the boundary line.

- Wingard has been caught HTB multiple times this season already either ran down when trying to out run or unable to evade tacklers when trying to "take them on".

Again as I stated he should have known he was the "last forward" option when running out to assist Pfeiffer (?) and when Pfeiffer won the free he should have handed it back to him, so we could set up. However, once he had chosen to take the ADV and started running at the Freo defender he could have:

A) looked backwards to keep control until we had a forward line.
B) kicked it long and strong... 40 meters into space... and let the bounce of the ball determine the outcome. Lucky bounces = potential score or OOB near goals. Unlucky bounces sees Freo potentially pick up the ball close to our goals and hopefully our players have also worked back to pressure them close to our goal.
C) Wingard could have short played the ball into space (like a soccer player making a run) over his direct defender and ran around keeping the ball close to the boundary in hope of either 1) out running his opponent and on to goal... or 2) playing the ball OOB for a reset deep in our attack.
D) choose to take the defender on (because he's been so successful at that this year).

He chose D) the wrong option (probably because he thinks he is a mini-super-Gav), got pinged HTB, turned over the ball further out from goal and Freo countered.

I actually like Wingard... my point about this contest is that our other youngsters are torn new ones by some here for every mistake they make, whilst Wingard is pedestalled. They all make poor decisions at times AMT.

Kornes...

He called for the ball...

I was raging when he called for the ball from Broady on the outer CHF-Center... because:

- 1st Broady did the right think and looked further upfield, but no real forwards we there yet. Kane was sort of clear at this point and screaming for it.

- 2nd Broady started to look inside and saw Kane calling for it, but didn't give it to him right away (good call). By this stage Daniel Stewart had put in the hard yards to come over from CHF to give an option in space up field on the wing.

- 3rd if Broady had looked up field now (about 5-8 seconds after the mark/free) he would have seen DS was now the best option. If Kane, as a leader, had looked around he would have seen he was now covered and could have directed Broady to look again longer and see DS.

- 4th Kane keeps calling, Broady relents and passes, but the pass is chopped off.

Poor leadership from Kane, Broady in 3 years time will make his own leadership decisions, unlucky DS who worked hard into position for nothing... not even a look in.

I don't think freo don't score because they are awful, I just think that is their play style. I could be wrong but the only explanation I can come up with for the first half scoreline, is that fremantle deliberately create no-score situations meaning the scoreline stays roughly the same. Not sure how they do it though, but Ross Lyon's Saint Kilda was the same (albeit a ****load more talented).

Also, Matthew Pavlich proves yet again how shit he is. Dirty player who is so far overrated its not funny.

On our performance: that was shit.

I disagree with some parts of your posts here. Freos have proven to score in games. Yes our last 2 games were gws and Melbourne. Pavlich is not a Dirty Player and hes not overrated. I do agree that Pav didnt deserve his 1st goal of the game as he had his hands on Carliles back.

LOL. Pav is obviously an elite player in the competition, and has been for many, many years now.

He is underrated by some who don't know who he is, and then overrated by many who don't know who he is. Over here he is considered "the most underrated player in the comp" who is the only good player at fremantle and carries them every game. In reality he is a good player for someone with probably the perfect build for football, but nothing amazing. Of course I don't see him play much, but when I do he doesn't lead his team at all. I saw him completely fall over when it counted against the bulldogs last year, and since then I have no respect for him.

Maybe its not his fault he is considered Fremantle's best player, but for someone who is I am always unimpressed by him of course I don't know him either :).

At the fremantle supporter, like I said I don't really know how fremantle score I've only seen a couple of games but it was the gamestyle saint kilda played under Ross Lyon (who I watched a lot back then) so I assumed it was similar for fremantle.
