In that last quarter against Carlton, we must have won first possession out of the centre square at half of the bounce downs. Gray, Boak and one or two others seemed to be getting a quick kick out of the middle for it to hit the ground around our half forward line, typically on the members side, and then get run back their way with ridiculous ease.

So who's fault is that? Are the half forwards not contesting well enough? Were our forward structures all wrong to the point that prevented us capitalising on centre square clearances? Were the mids just jamming the ball forward without enough care?

May be all of the above, but the problem didn't seem to be winning the centre square clearance, despite the fact we got massacred in that quarter.

Carlton had very good disposal for most of the game. Its fine to let them rebound easily if we do the same back to them, but the fact is as soon as it was in their forward line we struggled to get it out again except for a few awesome passages.

Clangers were hurting us more than they were hurting them, and they were making less. No matter how much of the ball you win in the middle it counts for nothing if you turn it over straight away and can't get it back.

IIRC Phillips did something to his shoulder at one point, looked fine after a couple of minutes though.
