Went into round 1 with this, unfortunately real life got in the way a week or two before the first game and the rolling lockouts came in so still have Whitecross on the field. Still broke 2K in points, so it worked itself out I suppose

West Coast Weasel midfield and forward lines are solid but I'd be monitoring Taylor (built for Supercoach not DT), KK and cull McDonald once he peaks for a Simpson/Malceski/Hodge etc. Newnes killed himself with 4 frees against. GWS can be difficult to score against at times, I remember Rocky's worst game last year was against them. I have Higgins also, 73 and 4 goals was not a bad return, he'll find more of the footy in games that North won't get hammered in.

Blicavs might be an ok selection actually, he copped a lot of flack on the SC Board but he has Stefan Martin like attributes as he knows how to find his own footy. Was disappointed in Lycett, he has plenty of ability but apparently lacked aggression, DPP is handy though.

Alot of PODS in your team but I'd hold on another week.

My team and reasoning on selecting them...

Hodge: He will be rested at stages and it has scared a lot of people off him but he is by far the best scoring defender available imo. I'm willing to start with him and put up with his rests as he doesn't produce those really low scores that other defenders are prone to making him harder to bring into my side during the year. The biggest risk is him getting red vested which is very possible (happened last year at 3qtr time but he was already on 90 odd).
Newnes: I put him in my side just before round 1. All preseason I avoided him but in the end I just couldn't ignore his preseason form. I think he will come good but his round 1 confirmed some doubts I had about him. Probably bought into too much hype.
Kelly: Simpson, Smith etc have a much higher ceiling than Kelly but they can also get tagged out of games and produce some really low scores. With Kelly spending more time in the middle I'm hoping for a low of solid 80-100 scores like he produced on the weekend.
Kolodjashnij: Gold Coasts number 1 uncontested ball winner during the preseason, prepped for time on the wing and showed good scoring potential last year. Safe to say I didn't expect his negating role on the weekend or his score of 37.
Goodes: I wasn't confident in any of the back line rookies to hold D5. Once he was elevated he was straight into my side.
McIntosh: Started him on the field once I seen he was avoiding the vest.

Saad/Oxley: Like everyone else.

Ablett: He was named for round 1 so I had to put him in. I think he will bounce back quickly and I didn't want to not have him once he gets going as it's very hard to bring in a player at his price early in the season.
Lewis: Plays a very DT friendly game in a DT friendly team. I always look for mids that have other players to take the tag off them and Lewis also ticked that box.
J.Selwood: Usually starts the year quiet then has a ripping second half but this year he looked slimmed down and primed for a good start to the year. Wasn't good round 1 but with the Cats getting smashed I'm expecting him to bounce back.
Parker: One look at the end of last years scores was enough to convince me. Also has people to take the tag off him.
Ward: A more unique pick. Scores very well generally when he avoids the tag so with Griffen going to GWS I was always going to go with either him or Treloar. I think Ward is about 3rd in line to get tagged now so expecting a big year from him.
Cripps: Like everyone.
Sheed: Good preseason form and appeared to be set for a decent chunk of midfield minutes. Like Cripps, spent a lot more time at half forward and struggled to get into the game but more midfield time in the second half and a 39 point second half game me hope that he will come good eventually. Hope he avoids the vest.
Anderson: Was always a sub risk but I backed him in as I thought he has the best scoring potential. His vest didn't hurt me too bad in the end with him outscoring Cey in the end who was the other option.

Heeney, Cey, Vandenberg

Leuenburger/Bellchambers: A late change before round 1 to go with 2 cheap ruck options. I'm generally worried about this setup atm but it suited my structure so took the risk.

Gray: Locked in early like almost everyone else.
Martin: Same as Gray.
Deledio: Selected him because I was predicting Martin to get off to a flyer and Deledio to see less and less of the hard tag. That didn't happen. Suspended for a week I can handle but his let issues worry me.
Bennell: A late inclusion because I wasn't happy with my bench options (had 2 bottom priced rookies I wanted to upgrade.) so I brought in Bennell for Swan. I think he will have some massive games but I'm worried about his consistency.
Salem: Like everyone else. Half back role was too good to knock back at his price.
Clark: Like everyone else.

Hogan/Saad: Saad was actually one of the rookies I upgraded to at the expense of Swan. He was far from convincing on the weekend.

Despite the shocking round 1, I'm reasonably happy with my team still. I'm confident that a lot of the poor scores will be turned around.

Hey guys,

Long time, first time.

I haven't really played Dream Team before, mostly Supercoach, ended up giving it a crack this year, done ok in the first 2 weeks, ranked 212 overall.

Looking for any advice really, is there anyone in my team that really shouldn't be?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

You should be telling us what to do with that ranking :D

What were your trades this week just wondering? I see you've made them and have 500k to blow which is great.

In the short term, Goodes and Lambert are problems I'd say. Goodes security is poor now with a number of young Dogs pressing for selection and Lambert will be out with a shoulder for 2-3 months IIRC. Next week you could upgrade Goodes to a premo defender and still have 200-300k left over to deal with Lambert I guess.

Currently ranked 14th. Looking to trade Judd for either Shiel or Motlop and potentially Daniel for Hogan before his price rises.

Dont think Shiel will be a top 10 keeper due to so many mids at GWS, think 95-100 is likely for him, but Motlop could be as a forward for sure, Motlop has another week before his price change as he missed last week so if you go that way you could fix up Daniel this week instead. If you have 21k leftover Hogan is a straight swap or if you don't then you'd have to dump say Judd/Neale for a Wallis/Van Berlo etc or downgrade Naismith to a Reilly O'Brien/Downie/Holmes etc.

The decision you have to make is to chase points and go for speculative early trades that may come off to help your ranking short term or get in the right cash cows to make sure you have enough upgrades lined up in the upcoming weeks. Personally I'd be getting in as many cash cows as possible now and backing in Neale and Judd short term as they should score better than any other rookie. If possible I'd be riding their breakevens and offload when they are at their highest value to get to a fallen premo, not sure if Judd can get past 500k, but if Neale smashes out a 120-130 one of these weeks which he is capable if doing I'd take advantage of that.

You have made some great initial selections though. Docherty, Hodge, Goldstein and Rich will have helped and Redden is looking a better pick than Beams. Good stuff :thumbsu:

Im happy I still have 28 trades. Next week Ill chop dead wood in defence and bring in whitecross and a better player than the prince.

Thoughts?
