I was flicking though the paper this morning and came across this in Punchlines in the Sports section. Thought it was an interesting read.

THE DYNAMIC DOZEN
We've been given lists of the AFL's best players, along with the most powerful and richest men, but what about nominating the game's most dynamic women. Let's call them the "Dynamic Dozen" and they didn't get there by deliberating on a club board on whether bikinis with club logos should be maketed or be in a paid position within the AFL. Some of this busy group are rarely seen, but take it from Punchlines, who has been showcasing women for 25 years much to the chagrin of some, that they exert powerful influence in their unique way. Often it's simply by sticking by their man, using their style, charisma and dare we say it, their wily charms to advantage in different situations. But these girls also know the game, who's in and who's out of the 16 teams each week. These women can talk about flooding and know what osteitus pubis means. Believe us, they can be tough, too, if their partner and/or club are denigrated, but do it without ruffling a feather-or their new hairstyle.

CARLA McGUIRE
A stylish and serene figure yet one who prefers to be unobtrusive at the footy where she operates in a formidable partnership with powerful husband Eddie, whose private life and those of their two boys she safeguards jelously.

DEBBIE JACKSON
She's been inconspicous, but as Leigh Matthews long-term partner, she has had an important off-field role to play in Brisbanes hat-trick of premierships and could be celebrating a fourth with Lethal later this year.

BEVERLEY O'CONNOR
OK, she is blonde, intelligent and eye-catching, and that hasn't hindered her rise to prominence in footy administration with Melbourne, the ABC and now Channel 7. But Beverley has earned her stripes in the game with her strength of character, loyalty to the Dees and commitment to her job.

LYNNE HUNT
A true sportswomen (footy, equestrian and fishing) and Rex's great love and strength. Her forthright views on the game and its people might not always mirror those of her high-profile boisterous husband but they are always wirth noting.

KERRY THOMAS
The wife of Saint coach Grant is simply an angel. We've known she has followed St Kilda all of her life as had Grant, but how many other young women have devotion to see him off to the game before she gets the Thomas cheer squad of eight children ready to go?

GERALDINE SHEEDY
The perfect match for husband Kevin Sheedy with whom she's survived a marathon ride on the footy rollercoaster while always being a willing worker for his Bomber's and confidante of the players wives.

LISA LLOYD
The glamorous wife of goalkicking star Matthew always projects a fine image to all young women whether she's at the footy or giving her honest insight into what it's like being the game's hottest couple.

SUSAN WOOD
You see her mostly behinf-the-scenes but this energetic lady with a passion for good publicity and Essendon has become a key player in the development of Telstra Dome as a highly popular football venue.

ANITA FRAWLEY
Strikingly beautiful, her loyalty and knowledge of all things football gives her a definite presence and has earned her TV exposure.

SYMONE RICHARDS
She would much prefer to stay out of this list but, having seen the workings of the AFL before she met Andrew Demetriou, the charming Symone, mother of their twins, is the power behind footy's throne.

TIFFANY CHERRY
Anyone who meets this delightful and popular TV footy reporter or deals with her as part of her job is left with the best impression. She is genuine in her approach and is treated like a lady in return.

MAUREEN HAFEY
A footy great herself, Maureen is loved by most in the game, having been with her husband Tom at four clubs and countless footy functions where her welcoming personality is an asset.

Lisa Lloyd? - go Matty go Matty go Matty!
Tiffany Cherry? - so she can read an autocue, good for her
Maureen Hafey? - yeah right

Surely Scotty Palmer is just extracting the urine here!

Where is Caro? As much as she is hated, she is easily the most 'powerful' woman in football

And why is Anita Frawley on this list - I thought it was for women

It is actually not about the most powerful but the most dynamic. Caro is NOT dynamic. As for some of the rest I would suggest that Scotty was just thinking with his lower anatomy!

not very powerful as ive never heard of half these people. the ones i have heard of are bimbo wives of footballers or exfootballers.

caroline wilson is the only woman with any authority in football. and bev o connor.

Self indulgence at it's best. The Girls behind the boys in the boys club that is the AFL, after all we have Sam Lane, Christie Malthouse, Caroline Wilson, and lets face it Cherry is not a real last name is it, who's daughter is she?

I'm afriad from what I have seen the AFL way of doing life is all about what you can give in order to get somewhere, or who you know.

Very little about real talent.

I think it's great that more women are getting involved with football. I think it's fantastic that we have shows like "Living With Footballers" which is hosted by women and have footy journos like Tiffany Cherry, Sam Lane, Christie Malthouse and ofcourse Carro. It shows that it's not just a boys game anymore and women are really having a say in our great game.

You are dreaming if you think any of those people have a say in our great game.

Obviously the L.W.F girls don't but it's great that there is a female presence. I think that the journos, especially Carro (no matter how much we hate her) do have a say.

That would imply that dimwits like Mike Sheahan and Rucci also have a say.

I choose to believe that you are sorely mistaken.

OK I think some of the women on the club's boards could easily be considered having huge influential roles in the running of ourgame. I know the Lions have a female board member and there's at least one other.

Certainly a lot more influential than Matty Lloyds wife and some of those sub-par journalists.

I hate Mike Sheahan as much as anyone but the sad thing is that him and the majority of the media do have quiet a big say. They may not make the rules or anything but they can influence people alot.

Anyway instead of debating who shouldn't be on the list what about who should be on the list.

And what kind of name is Toss?.

Glad to see they frighten people with a photo of Christie Malthouse or mention her name either. And why was Elaine Canty not mentioned?.Or would that be 2 many female Essendon supporters?.

yeh, she's such a valuable contributor.

a perfect example of how eyebrow lifts can go wrong - either that, or the wind changed direction when she saw matt's half sucked tic tac for the first time.

We must be looking at different people because her eyebrows look fine to me. From a straight females point of view she's gorgeous. I wouldn't be complaining if I looked like her. I'm not saying that she should be on the list but she is in no way ugly. IMO anyway.

Was surpised that Sam Lane and Christie Malthouse wasn't on the list. Their 2 fairly prominent women in footy.

probably not there because they're both just fringe dwelling reporters - they're not even the supporting other halves of some other male football personalities/players as mrs. frawley & mrs. mcguire.

tiff cherry perhaps is an exception with her sports medicine experience - i believe she's actually worked at an AFL club before moving to fox.

1-Agree on Tiff Cherry,+ she worked at Richmond, despite being a Don fan.
2-But their father's are both involved in AFL ,one as a coach +the other as a Broadcaster.

This whole thread is just so insulting - women are powerful simply becuase their partners are high profile and they dress well (supposedly). I'd thought we'd moved on from such outdated thinking.
