About half way between pudgy and rock hard fit.
Interesting fact. According the the HS at the time he was drafted at 94kg and has been playing at 95/96kg. Not a bad effort 10 years on. Seems he may just be a pudgy guy.

I want to see how he goes if he does to 92/93.

Don't worry about muscle mass and being ripped. Let's see if he can strip off weight and get through a season playing light and putting less stress on the lower half of his body.

He is so naturally explosive that dropping muscle mass for lean muscle will mean he will still maintain his strength.

You missed last pre season or the one before ? It was about being lean and fit which he was in December. :)
He is more than likely been playing 10kg under what weight he would be if he was not playing footy and doing reasonable exercise and on a good diet.

From what I understand he stripped his weight down to be able to play more midfield minutes. In reality I am starting to think that everytime we try to build his body to a certain point aerobically, he breaks down.

I am talking about being lean and not pushing his body to be able to do the 12km a game midfielders are expected to. Essentially the same role he played at the dogs and for us in 2021 but 2-3kgs lighter.
If he is just lighter, and plays 85-15 fwd-mid, (avoiding pushing his body to cover those longer distances) I think he may avoid these soft tissue injuries.

I think people are asking for something that is not likely to happen given where he came from(already being 90+ kg at draft age) and the fact the workload needed for him to stay fit and the fact his funny running gait due to his broken leg also puts pressure on other parts of the body. But hey I accept I am in the minority with my view. :)

Hope this is more of a real match with 4 quaters rather than 5 periods like we did against GCoast...
Heppell & Langford really need to lift in this match or start in the reserves in my opinion - I hope Voss plays well again if we does he might play senior footyround 1...Think we'll line up closer to full strength and see something like;-

Ridley Zerk McGrath
Redman Lav Massimo
Martin Setterfield Durham
Perkins Weideman ADavey
Voss 2MP Menzie

Draper Parish Merrett

Bench from: Shiel Caldwell Jones Kelly Tippa Hind Baldwin Guelfi Langford Heppell

We'll probably go best 26. So Zerk probably comes in and then guys like Voss, Baldwin, Wanganeen, Montgomerie, Hayes, Lord and one of Bryan or Phillips go out. Not sure if Guelfi will get up.

I’d keep Voss in - certainly until Stringer comes back…he offers a point of difference forward and makes us a little unpredictable
If it’s 26 I’m hoping to see;-

Ridley Zerk Kelly
Redman Lav McGrath
Merrett Setterfield Durham
Martin Jones Perkins
Weideman 2MP Menzie

Draper Parish Shiel

Bench from: Caldwell Massimo ADavey Voss
Tippa Hind Langford Heppell

From what I have heard the game length/quarters will replicate a standard AFL match.

Makes sense, it is the only real practice match.

Not sure about interchange. Might be extras there?

Going to assume the players that didn’t play Thursday are unavailable, barring BZT.

B Kelly - Laverde - Ridley
HB Redman - BZT - McGrath
C Martin - Parish - Durham
HF Caldwell - Jones - ADavey
F Menzie - Wright - AMT
R Draper - Shiel - Merrett
Int. Setterfield - Hind - D’Ambrosio - Langford - Heppell - Perkins - Weideman - Snelling

Those are the 26 that I think all have legitimate claims for round 1. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if someone is left out for one of Phillips/Bryan, in fact I kinda expect it but don’t know who goes out. Wouldn’t be shocked if we saw Voss or Baldwin (particularly BZT pending) either.

Well now that Heppell is out I’d say that spot becomes one of Phillips/Bryan.

Not sure if Guelfi plays..anyone have an update on where he's at..?? Now with Heppell out I'd say we'll see a 26 like this;-

Ridley Zerk Kelly
Redman Lav McGrath
Martin Setterfield Durham
Langford Jones Tippa
Voss 2MP Menzie

Draper Parish Merrett

Bench from: Perkins Caldwell Shiel Snelling Massimo ADavey Hind Weideman
