Let me preface this by saying I think that what Port Adelaide are trying to do by playing Never Tear Us Apart before the opening bounce at home games is a good effort at building the pre game energy in the crowd. It is a little try hard though and the song itself doesn't really have any merit in my opinion to be played at a sporting event. I get what Kochie is trying to achieve though and for that good on him for showing initiative.
Some will think it's uneccessary but I am a big believer that as a club we should take ownership of the music played before the bounce. When you consider we share the MCG with several other teams, then the ground itself doesn't exactly create much of a home ground advantage when compared with the feel and energy at Subiaco or Adelaide Oval for example. So any little thing we can do or create that gives us an advantage is surely something we should consider.
Therefore I think that an anthem played at every home game (other than our song) would be a powerful and intimidating message to the opposition that they are at our ground, on our turf, and they're in for hell over the next 2 hours. Hearing Down Under played around Subi after the Aussies win last week got me thinking how well songs work at sport when the song choice is the right one.
I know alot will say we don't need a gimmicky song before the bounce to create energy, we're already pumped up to watch the game, thats fair enough, but wouldn't it be better to have a powerful, energetic song that might get everybody up and about rather than some random song that you don't give two flogs about? I'm definitely not advocating holding up any scarves or bullshit like that as Port do, but a song with a few powerful lines that are sung in unison at full voice would be amazing.
These would be my nominations. Try to listen to these and not feel pumped and ready to run through a brick wall head first. Imagine what it would feel like for an opposition supporter or player to hear 50k Hawks supporters singing 'WE CAN'T BE BEATEN!' in unison.

Both songs with incredibly strong and powerful lyrics that I think resonate fantastically well with our great club.
Thoughts?
