Pre Bounce Anthem at Home Games

No thanks. If the PAFC want to have that sort crap before a home game then let them.
But please, AFL don't ever allow it again if we meet in a final and that final is OUR home final.

Watcha game of basketball to see how annoying music at games is. It works in a way that provides tempo, but hearing a diff song every 15 secs and high tempo/ slow tempo for off/def is pretty annoying. Cavs are the kings of annoying music

The current 'match day experience' is why I have for the last two years attended more VFL matches than AFL matches - and they want to add more of this claptrap! Are they trying to drive fans away?

The prebounce song isnt about intimidating the opposition. It's about involving the fans.

The problem with AFL in Victoria is, you turn up to a game, and you get the same package no matter which team is playing. The player output being the only variance fromt he stock standard game at the MCG or Etihad.

Teams are trying to make their home games feel more like a home rather than just change a few sponsor signs and a few stickers saying "Hawthorn".

If this will make more people attend games because they find Hawthorn home games entertaining, then I'm all for it.

Once upon a time they had a great way to make your home games feel like a home game, they had these things called home grounds where only your team played.

Yep, and every single one got closed off as the dollars of MCG/Etihad with bigger attendances were attractive with the exception of Kardinia Park.

Irony being that the Etihad deals have actually crippled some clubs.

I think port pull it off ok due to almost sellouts every game in adelaide. Hawks v GWS at the G' on a cold saturday afternoon probably wouldn't work.

Need to bring back curtain raisers. Whether they be TAC cup, VFL, state games whatever. Was always good to roll up to the G' years ago and watch a few potentials on the hallowed turf. Good for fans and players alike and a bit more incentive to get there earlier.

Especially tho odd box hill game, would be great to watch a few of the lesser likes in Sicilly, Shem, O'rourke as well as our new draft additions

I'd love the idea of curtain raisers too, but the AFL is so far up its own pooper that they reject the fans happiness and it probably won't ever happen

Well, at the Prelim, the Port supporters had this post-bounce chant going:

1. Shaun Burgoyne gets the ball: BOO

2. Shaun Burgoyne has a kick or handpass: BOOOO

3. Shaun Burgoyne makes a dazzling run, takes 3 bounces, burns off opposition and bullets a pass to Roughie: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!

They didn't sing it either.

Hope I'm not giving away to much about my vintage, but a rewrite to The Stranglers Golden Brown came to mind for pre match anthem.

I also thought with the the new marketing message on the website emphasing "Are you gold and brown?" for membership - that it might play.

I thought like all great anthem's from the English Premier League it has to have a familiar tune and be slow enough for everyone to sing in tune with.

I think it has a nice anthem quality to it and I'm sure someone on here to could a better job with the lyrics than the 5 minutes I spent on it here, so feel free to go mad.

For those who don't know the tune click the link and to get the tune into your head.

Gold and Brown

Gold and brown were number one
When we are down it won’t be for long
Come day or the night
We always fight
We’re never let down by Gold and Brown

Every game just like the last
They try to catch Cyril, but he’s just too fast
Hodgey’s quick hands
Turn’s on the fans
We’re never let down by Gold and Brown

Gold and Brown, she’s our mistress
Since ’61 we’re clearly the best
Why it’s this way
No one can say
Never let down by Gold and Brown

(La la la la la la la la leeeah)

Never a let down by Gold and Brown
Never a let down by Gold and Brown

Just one question. How can it make a game more entertaining?
Passionate fans won't be the target audience as they'll turn up no matter what.

It's targeted at the fan that'll happily buy a membership and watch it at home on tv. There's nothing really at the venue itself that gives it that special atmosphere. Blockbuster games are the exception.

Good tune but isn't the song about heroin?

You see, this is what annoys us long standing supporters so much. To hell with what we want, we have to tolerate what people who don't really care about the game wants. It is the way of the world. As a passionate cricket fan, I have to put up with all the crap that T20 cricket provides, just to watch a game of cricket these days, footy's getting just as bad.

If I wanted to listen to loud music and watch lights flashing on and off, I'd go to a rock concert. Basketball did this years ago, they alienated the true supporters with American rubbish, loud music, inane commentators talking whenever someone scored a basket, etc. TV's just as bad, we can't go to and return from a commercial without music blaring out ... .are they scared they will lose viewers unless this happens?

What in hell is wrong with sitting there having a conversation with the person you're with? I pay my money to go and watch a game of footy, and that's all I want to see. We have created a world where unless there's loud music and all sorts of things going on, people get bored. It really is pathetic, and the "Never Tear Us Apart" bullshit is just garbage. Too bad if Port supporters don't really care for the song, they're stuck with it.

Totally agree with all of this, NOBODY who wants this to happen cares about anyone but themselves. It won't bring fans in, it'll drive them away. Wait until Port's bandwagoners have stopped showing up. They aint there for the music.

"You vill do it und you vill enjoy it YA?, und zen you vill play ze hopscotch on ze minefield wiz ze loud mooshik playink on ze loud schpeaker, und ze schpektators vill enjoy it or zay vill be joining you on ze minefield YA?"

It's a big difference from the old days where you pay less than $10 and just watch the game.

With the ticket and membership prices increasing, you start to demand more for the dollars you pay.

If nothing is done to make the match day experience better than just turning up to watch the game, crowds will drop and favour to watch from their lounge rooms.
