The jobbers like Mansell and Miller and Kosi and Rois are blokes that will be used to protect the juniors as they develop but they won't be long termers going forward on our next September assault.

The club just drafted the framework for the real team going forward and they will add another 2 top line midfielder's next draft.

Gunna take a while.

We just drafted 8 x kids. Odds are 5 will be automatic selections in future. If we take 2 more top-6 picks next year that brings it to 7.

There are still 16 more players needed to field a team in future flag assaults. And they probably won’t be Prestia, Lynch, Macca, Nank, Vlastuin or Broad.

I don’t know exactly who they will be, but I’d be surprised if Mansell and Ross are not two of them. And Miller had an excellent first half of 2024 - he fell away badly, but there’s no reason he can’t continue to develop into an Astbury type defensive rock. Astbury was an injury riddled battler prior to 2017.

So yes, there will be a core of 4-6 elite players the team relies most on, but there’ll also be a stack of Mansell, Miller and Ross types who are crucial moving forward.

Great point, the guys already on the list who are likely depth going forward have the next two seasons to get about as much game time as we can give them before they are hopefully overtaken by guys with a greater upside. In our premiership era we kept losing our depth due to players having more opportunity elsewhere or we would draft the wrong guys with our first rounders and then also not be able to give them game time. I guess the thing is that you can't hold onto too many of these types, prime example is KPD where I see someone like Young as being right in the gun. Same with Dow, he survived because of how bare the cupboard is.
