The fact that he played so well and looked so promising when they had Barry Hall speaks volumes. You have to wonder though why he was so keen to leave the dogs, if the players were aware that Boyd was coming into the fold.

Firstly Liam was targeted many months before being drafted. As such there was a commitment going both ways. At the time Liam was not getting the support that he felt he warranted and there was little sign that things would get better. As for Boyd, that came out of left field to everyone. if it wasnt for the unimaginable scenario (that your acting captain decides to walkout) there would be no way Boyd would be at the dogs. So there is no need to wonder - he made a decision mid year when he was unhappy and being a decent chap, he stuck to his decision. There are similarities IMO with ou recruitment of Docherty last year. Had he known that Voss was gone and Leppitsch was replacing him, he may have stayed, but the deal had already been done and he honored his agreement.

Very surprised that Tutt managed third in the time trial, that is a positive sign for him (personally I don't see him in our Best 22 at this stage). I suspect people will be very disappointed with Tutt's lack of physicality around the footy though, hopefully he can work on that aspect of his game this year.

Really looking forward to watching Jones this season. If Casboult and Henderson stay fit I think he can be a very solid contributor.

I think we may be all surprised by Tutt. Again he was targeted during the year. The dogs tried to keep him but he kept to his agreement with us. He has been working on his physicality and was making progress. A great pickup for our needs IMO.

Lot to like about Jones - have certainly noticed from footage that for some reason he doesn't take overhead marks very often though - certainly not a pack-marking option like Casboult; for a 198cm player he has pace and agility and might just be ready to make his mark. The Bulldogs essentially swapped a tall forward for Caleb Daniel (smallest player on an AFL list?) so it will be interesting to look back later this year.

I think that having three key forwards, all having different strengths makes for a much harder match up. Out of the three Jone is the most explosive in both pace and physicality. Casboult is the best contested mark or the three. Henderson is the smarter , fitter, more creative, better all round player. They all complement eachother IMO

Something bad went down at the kennel with McCartney and senior players. He's no longer the coach and thus Higgins, Griffen, Jones, Tutt and Cooney are all at other clubs.

So I wouldn't read too much into Jason and Liam's past season. New beginnings...

45 days until pre season games can't wait. Its gonna be a long 45 days :(

Starting to get itchy feet as well Toad.
Disappointing that the club didn't schedule an open training session last week when a lot of people were still on Xmas holidays.

Saw Carrazzo and TBird at red hot summer in mornington yesterday. Carrazzo looked great and tbird looked fit as ever. Don't know how many of them were there but good to see they all still catch up with ex players.

HARKER - are you going out to training tomorrow?

Every chance I will but not with the same enthusiasm as for previous years.........well, not at least until the boys get into game simulation mode.

The open days have been devoid of all the good stuff but it's been good to see all the newbies and the general mood of the group.

Wanting to see Boekhorst ramp things up now and look forward to Byrne being fully involved......we'll see.

Indeed. And you will report as an absolute minimum the following:

Levi does not miss a single shot for goal.
Watson now the fastest and most agile player on the list.
Yarran has superior endurance to Curnow.
Garlett is still a Blue: the move to Melbourne was just a big prank. And he is the hardest trainer out there.
Judd is now running like a 17 year old rather than a 20 year old.
Kreuzer has hands like buckets coated in super glue, gets to the drop of the ball every time, and always outbodies his opponent.
Warnock is a contested marking beast.
Jaksch is in full drills and has put on 6kgs of muscle.
Giles is out of the moon boot and running marathons.

And anything else you can take from the session too please.

Not sure what you mean, I assumed you were referring to the fact that he's mentioned in almost every player interview at the moment. I can't actually watch the embedded video so not sure if he's in it.

To date we've had Malthouse, Wiley, Buckley, Thomas and now Tuohy singling out Jones as the standout performer.

I also wouldn't have believed it, had I not seen it.
They're not making things up as Jones has been a standout in just about every session I've seen.............now just to do it in the real stuff.

Ohh, now I understand :thumbsu:
Sorry Harks, bit slow on a Monday afternoon!

I look forward to seeing Jones in action myself. I'm convinced it's only bitterness that causes supporters to so heavily and loudly criticise an ex-player.

While you are at it Harks, please organise the following...

*Eddie McGuire to suggest something that benefits other clubs
*Tony Abbott to understand women
*Carlton's board works harmoniously
*Peace on earth
*Goodwill towards all men and women

There's a good lad.

Doggies hate the idea that Macca wasn't the ideal coach for Jones. They keep pointing at a game where he had 1 handball would not chase tackle so on. To me it's seems obvious that he must have had a real issues with Macca.
