Why not have the photo op during the ‘Gather’ round.

I get it is round 5 but the AFL aren’t exactly prompt at making decisions or providing critical information.
You're right about their tardiness. Have they managed to confirm the salary cap for 2023 yet?

No decision on Tassie either, though they keep talking as if it is a foregone conclusion.

Gill is due to finally leave in a month and they haven't appointed a replacement CEO either. Maybe the league can run itself for a few months while they figure it out.

I'm not a fan of that for the captain. If you take on the role you're expected to be available every week. I agree with you that he will be managed, but in a year when so many other clubs seemingly got their captain succession planning right, feels like we missed a trick.

Shuey could've led on field without the title, just as Hurn has.
I really don’t see what the issue is. If Shuey has a season ending injury in round 1, Gov or TB take over as skipper. They’re both capable.
If Shuey plays 20+ games this year as skipper then retires, Gov or TB take over on a full time basis next year.
I don’t think whoever holds the title will have any impact on our win/loss column.

Tardy? They are quick to splash the cash to some!

It does. My fear however is that the ball won't be getting forward often enough to capitalise from it.

I'm starting to feel the same, also better for the new blokes when the captains up and about every week.
Love the shoe to bits, but agree, feels like it may have been the perfect time for the team and Luke for someone else to step up.
Let him concentrate on being as fit as possible and playing hard. (Sex life!)

They got the all important rule changes sorted well before time though so that’s a relief

Hope the bus ride from the hotel to Marvel isn't too long. Wouldn't want to risk our captain getting an injury.

We’ve got an intraclub tomorrow morning which is the final serious competitive hitout before round 1 and Shuey needs the game minutes as he was clearly rusty against Adelaide

Would you rather he play in that or sit on a plane for the best part of 10 hours for a meaningless photoshoot/PR exercise

WCE need to open the game up make sure the forwards hold the position & don't stray down to the backline open the game up to allow faster transition of the ball. The backline look up and see the HB line & centre lines blocked up and no targets so they have to bomb it up to a pack. Which usually means they see it go back over there heads in no time. Hurn, Witherton and co are great kicks but they don't get the opportunity to hit a target. It looks really bad when you constantly see our whole team in the backline, it looks as though we have given up on winning the game.

Do we think today’s game will still aid in R1 selection or is that pretty much done at this stage barring mishaps? Like is today just for minutes / final tune up mostly?

A week to go!
The days creep closer to the reality of our situation -
and the quality of our viewing/supporting future will be revealed...to some extent?

Team would be pretty much picked i would think. Probably just waiting to see if Shuey, JD and B. Williams can get up

I suspected Culley was carrying something albeit minor the last couple of weeks as a bit more quiet overall. Hope he didn’t overtrain - word was he was the preseason standout until then and was pretty much living at the club in the off / preseason
