I went down for a look.

Short, Graham and Lynch all running on the boundary and not training with the main group. Short looked proppy with a slight limp later in the morning.

Graham jeez he looks heavy (thick set) whilst nearly all others have leaned off.

Prestia full training. Dusty moving very freely.

Cumberland - the bloke is a bit out there but I love him.

I'll post later on something tactical I saw interesting in match simulation which is a change up to previous years, along with anything else I can remember.

Interested in your opinion on the size of some of last years draftee's like Banks , Sonsie , Clark & Brown
do they look afl size or still alot more work in the gym required

It struck me how collectively most players have leaned down, especially through the thighs, glutes and chest. If that's the standard I'd say the 2021 recruits are ready now.

We are going for speed.

Mrj hurt himself tackling someone from behind. Limped off. Taranta and hopper looked great. Dusty looked lean and fast but can see he's a bit older now. Saw him try to do a couple of don't argues but got tackled. Balta looks like a beast. Was great to see the coaches there too, Lambo truck lonergan and Morris all running around

Sonsie looked similar ish to last year, probably a bit leaner with a bit more conditioning. Narkle has also trimmed down a lot, must desperately want that last spot.

Dunno what is wrong with Short but in the rehab group. Lynch looks like he might be a while off yet, but obviously being ultra cautious.

Dusty moving very very well. Looks super fit and primed for a huge year I reckon.

For those that attended today, how did Sonsie look?
Where was he stationed etc.

Quick random thought...

We've all wondered at our excessive drafting of small utility defenders, at least I certainly have, but is there a possible method to this madness?

If we assume those players were, in Richmond's eyes, the best available players at those picks, then maybe we just took them because, even if they are surplus to need, either they end up better than what we already have in the next few years, OR they give us some brilliant trade currency to get other players across that we DO need.

I dunno, just a thought. It's not a bad idea though, in theory...

Why waste pick 50 on a midfielder that was behind 20 other midfielders in the pecking order, when you can spend pick 50 on a defender that was probably only behind the absolute elite few, and may actually improve you in the mid/long run, or give you a really good player to trade out in a couple of years time.

With that in mind, should drafting always just be "best available" ?

Observation from training today- the lead up tall is choosing to double palm the ball down to an at speed running player, instead of marking. This is happening between centre and F50. It happened nearly every time by all our talls in this part of the ground, and resulted in a quicker transition of the ball into our F50 to a marking forward.

Look for it R1.

I like it. Our drafting the last couple years has clearly been predominantly based around speed and athleticism. Think we're going to play some exciting footy this year.
