Should be here after Christmas I believe
As stated by Sainttony , Eamon Armstrong wil finish schooling im Ireland, which will presumably end in June... following their school year... So if he is coming after christmas it will be for a short visit...

Presumably he will spend a lot of time between now and June getting familiar with a sherrin.

Irish press said he is finishing his leaving certificate and will be here in June.

We must really love this guy if we're signing a player up who won't even be in the country until halfway through the next season.

I just wanted to make an observation that Philipou is currently doing his 3rd pre-season and is still 19 years old.

The potential development left in this young man is eye watering
The snippets from training show that his movement is different to last year. He's developing some power through his hips and mid section. Gonna be fun to watch next year.

So I felt like I was drenched in sweat on Friday and I was sitting in the shade sipping water the whole morning. I say this because it gives an idea of what the boys trained in! It was a dead set stinker of a morning but they worked incredibly hard in the conditions.

My biggest takeaway from Friday was Pou's leadership. I'm not sure if he was given a specific role at training but he was so vocal, giving direction constantly and being so ridiculously encouraging. He displayed leadership well beyond his 19 years and I'd be inclined to say that Friday was the biggest display of a player taking charge at training since Roo/Lenny.

I know that's a massive call, but I'd actually be shocked if he isn't in the leadership group for season 2025 and beyond. Pou, Wilson, Hugo and O'Connell led the running drills. Wilson and Hugo taking the piss in front as they were running in pairs. I saw taking the piss because they were just chatting away at a great pace while everyone else was struggling to breathe being clearly hampered by the heat.

Pou, Wilson, Gus & O'Connell all pushing for their final lap, not cutting any corners - which was great to see. Hugo was last to complete his running due to a break and he literally had to have the trainer run over and block his path to make him stop running an extra lap. The guy is a terminator, absolute machine!

Ballwork, well won't Jack Carroll be a pleasant surprise for everyone questioning his pickup. I really honestly don't understand how or why he was delisted, unless we gave a strong offer and he asked for it. He is quite elusive in close, change of direction and strength is quite good. Good kick, slightly sloppy by hand a few times but has great positioning - I think he is a huge chance to debut in round 1.

Hugo goes hard, at one point in a competitive drill Pou was jogging into an easy goal and Garcia put the burners on making him earn it - I think the kick hit the post. He then ran back to the centre like a machine resetting - the kids work ethic is manic! There was another moment when he tried to smother Nas. I'm not exactly sure if he made contact with him, but Nas came off second best. It hampered his running but came back and finished it off.

Windy running solid laps and may have done some work in the pool, definitely recovering/rehabbing from something but I'm sure it's not serious as he was moving well.

Irish is one I've been watching closely. He keeps on impressing me, moves very well and rarely misses a target by foot. I'm not sure who previously mentioned that he should be played on a wing, but they really were spot on. It's easy to just talk up everyone, but he is really catching the eye early days.

Max was there with Wood (another one or two in his group but I forgot), they were doing a bit of light fitness/ball stuff - from a distance Max looked solid. I feel his time is now, didn't look like a 200+ centimetre beanpole anymore.

Im a bit vague on my memory, they worked incredibly hard in the heat, that's probably my biggest take from it. Much to be impressed by considering the conditions and seeing noone taking a backward step so early on in the preseason.

Can't wait to see the draftees join in and the time trial next week.
Give this man a beer! Awesome

Check this out if you haven't seen it. Really warming to him now. Giving me Isaac Heeney vibes, especially once he puts on some muscle:

Its a very interesting move we've done. I think I read somewhere that we wanted to give him the reassurance of being on a list whilst he concentrated on his studies.

Considering that's going to happen in June, like Austinnn said, we must really rate him.

Great write up! Lovely to hear Matteas is showing leadership potential - god knows we need strong leaders
I wonder if the movement of some of
The older blokes Seb, Members, Battle has given Poo and some of the others the confidence they needed to take that extra leadership step.

Yes, the reassuring that was is in the news article

About Hugo, he has something remember his impact, coming on as sub running down whoever it was..Guilden I think, look on his face was who the hell are you. Then that one step lace out 40-50m bullet pass in the heat of Blues game saysca lot about him and his potential.

He will be in the 22 somewhere this year.

It was definitely against GWS in that game where we played horribly until the last quarter. Pretty Sure Hugo ran down Whitfield.

I know everyone has been looking at Ireland for 40 years - but given we are being done over by the Academies and Father Sons its great the Club is really trawling for talent over there - kudos!

Similar to the end of 2008 where Ross made it clear that they couldn't rely on the senior players who were retiring... exciting phase

I like the fact we’re loading up on these Irish guys, who are around the 190cm mark and can really run.

They tend to end up really good kicks (as they get taught good technique from the get-go and don’t have bad habits set in) and having that height and running ability makes them good prospects for an intercepting/rebounding role off HB.

A lot of the best running/rebounding half backs came from the rookie draft (eg Sincs, Houston and Saad), or late in the National Draft (eg Dale and Daniel), so it makes sense to get guys who you think have the attributes to make good rebounding defenders and see if you can strike gold with one or two.

They only ever show the highlights but plenty to like!

Do the work, listen and learn - we might have a real (midfield?) player here!

I really like the young core of players we are putting together, plus the coaching, development and facilities. We just need to be a little patient (difficult for a Saints supporter!) as the players develop physically and get AFL game time. Players like Pou and Wilson who can justify a spot and physically cope with the demands of playing every game in their first year are pretty rare.
