I've watched CH 7 montage of reactions to the final siren (huge Florence and the Machine fan btw) and I've always wondered who Roughy was pointing at
when the siren went. Before that, I had to pause the IQ replay to see who crashed into Liam Picken for a celebratory hug and nearly knocked him to the ground - Josh Dunkley hahah. That montage is always the one I come back to, Easton Wood "ugly" crying was captured beautifully. :)

Link?

Is that the footage with "the dog days are over" playing?

I'd like to thank the 33 people who liked my post (107) in this thread.

I actually wrote it in GF week and prayed that I would get the chance to use it

I confess that I thought Eagles might eliminate us and was pleased with the great win

When we beat Hawks I thought "Hello, this is serious"

I always thought GWS were a bigger threat to us than Swans so when we got over them I was quietly confident for the GF

Hope Ian Collins enjoyed our win (oldies know what I mean )

Ok,I've watched the replay a couple of time now and just watched it again tonight with the 3AW commentary.
When I watched the game live I thought Macrae was best on ground but I havnt seen many agree, fair enough we had many fine contributors but each time I watch the replay I'm more and more convinced. He was absolutely sensational with both his hands and his kicking which were both precise and creative and led to many goals and he just kept getting possession after possession all game.
His point in the third was his only let down but thankfully he didn't do it the week before.

I don't get the hate on Sting at all. Maybe it was different because I was there, and not watching on telly, but he nailed the acoustics of the venue. This was unlike Vance Joy, whom I rate and listen to often, who really didn't know how to deal with the awful acoustics (I was buying beer during The Living End so cant judge). Seriously, I thought Sting's experience and professionalism was great, and all of the people around me were saying so. Really added to the excitement of the day, and made me start to appreciate how special the event is.

Then I watch replays and analysis and people were hating on Sting? Didnt get it at all.

Think that people need to recognise the distinction between playing the venue live and playing it for the people on TV. To play it live you need to change the way you play, and to do that you need to value the people who are live over the people watching on TV.

Have to agree with this. Sting sounded best live. The living end got it pretty wrong- I could barely hear the singer.

I heard Vance joy. I was in and out of knowing what was going on during the living end. By the time Sting was on, I was a mess. So I've got no idea. I could literally just hear noise in the background.

Haha I was fine up until 3qtr time. I'd convinced myself we were certainties to lose, so was just soaking up the experience and not worrying.

Then (I think after Stringer kicked his goal) a deep sense of existential angst came over me, when I realised this might actually be happening and if not I'd be devastated. I shouted so hard at that Stringer goal I nearly passed out. I couldnt talk after that. My wife was worried about my health, I was catatonic and not responding to people talking to me all the way up until the Picken goal. Then I got into it, and started making smart arse jokes about McLean doing what was necessary and ducking like hed never ducked before. Then came the tears.

Haha I see the Buck has liked my post (he was sitting next to me). I neglected to mention that in addition to becoming catatonic during the last quarter and not talking I had also become, shall we say, more than a little irrational and obsessive compulsive. The one external thing I did respond to during those final minutes was me remonstrating with him and others and telling them to sit down and not to celebrate too early after the JJ non-goal and not to 'jinx us' (a little rudely, my apologies Buck!).

Funny how strong stupid superstitions are in people with Irish heritage. This is no matter what level of education has been achieved and no matter how stupid one knows such superstitions are. I had in my minds eye the 3qtr time celebrations in 97. Such deep scars.

As someone who does this for a living, this isn't true. As an artist, you can't deal with the acoustics. That is completely and utterly the sound engineer's job.

When you're on stage, you have absolutely no way of telling how you sound to the audience. I've played hundreds of gigs where the sound on stage was amazing, but I get off and get told that the audience could hear nothing but bass. Likewise I've played hundreds of gigs where the sound on stage is awful but I get off and the audience thought it was amazing.

The talent can't do anything about the acoustics, they can just get up there and play. The only way they can adjust to a venue is by changing their set/interaction with the crowd depending on the stage/the size of the audience, which didn't apply here because of the setup of the venue and the stage.

I'm not hating on sting at all, I thought he was great. But it's got nothing to do with him dealing with the acoustics.

Fair enough - as my post demonstrates I'm ignorant about these things.

Can they do nothing to regulate the sound of their voice to make it play better given the layout of where they are performing and how the sound travels? My intuitive assumption was that they can, but often intuitive assumptions are badly wrong!

What probably happened was just that you were right in some way: Rather than it being Sting, his crew is probably one of the best so they were able to adjust to the venue a lot better and get a better sound.

Usually they can, but Etihad is just not a great venue for music, especially when you have to do the sound to a 360 degree stadium. With Etihad you have to send the sound to everyone, and a lot of the frequencies like the vocals or guitars get lost since they don't have anywhere to go except up whereas in a normal venue they'll either be sent straight ahead to the audience with less room for error, or they will bounce of the walls and shoot straight back to the listener. Which is why afterwards, Vance Joy and the Living End sounded a lot better, as they were just pumping the music forward to a select group of people rather than everywhere in the stadium.

The fact Sting only flew into Melbourne on the Saturday morning meant there was no opportunity for sound checks or anything either.

Can't be a dogs fan if he is still in single figures. At least 20 by Sunday, or he must be forced to follow the 'aints or dees!
We have standards to uphold around here and we can't allow mediocrity to pervade our board.
That's all?!?! :p
Relax guys,I've been trying to watch all our finals games equally to get a wider joy. Having said that I even more stand by my original comment. Apart from the Eagles game I not only think Macrae was BOG in the GF but I also thought he was our best player during the finals and that would even include Picken who was sensational in his own right. While Macrae doesn't get to many accolades compared to others he was terrific and his return from injury had as much to do with our premiership as anything else. I'm still amazed he doesn't get the credit he deserves but it does show how many promising young players we now have on our list.

Six weeks later and I'm still in tears.

Especially when I watch that last quarter. Seen it about 20 times now!
This is what was said in my house when I put on the replay
"Mum,dads crying again because he's watching the football" and before some kid come over for some sleepover "Mum,tell dad not to watch the football when ..... comes over,he's just going to start crying again and totally embarrass me"

To all of those WB supporters that are getting the "without the bye after the last round you would not have won" - we Adelaide supporters still get that same logic for 1997 / 1998 when the finals system was farked up. Who gives a rats cracker ... amIright !!! It eventually adds to the fun - like Wayne Harms saying "the ball was definitely out" in the 1979 GF to any Pies supporter that will listen to him :)

Macrae played out of his bloody mind. Top five best on ground for mine.

I still say best but I'm glad your putting him top 5 as not everybody would.. It seems like Macrae had a hand somewhere in virtually every goal we kicked and was also one of the few players to have 30+ possessions. Even forPickens second goal it was a mad scramble with multiple players getting their hand on the ball but it was Macrae who had the telling possession with his sublime little pass to Maclean that he should have marked.
On the Swans side of things I also thought Grundy was better than Kennedy but again just an opinion. For my Ching finals I'd give Macrae a total of 14 votes. He better kick some bloody goals next year so he can get the recognition he deserves.

I agree with them. Without the bye we wouldn't have won. But that has about the relevance of the capital of Poland. Every side knew how the season would be structured months before the start of the season, and we were lucky enough to benefit from it. But bugger me, we were overdue for a bit of luck after the season of injuries we had.

To be fair the audio in parts of the mcg was a disgrace ! Where I was we were all saying we could hardly hear any of the lyrics or singing. The balance was way out for us - asked a few people around and we all were complaining. We were in ponsford
