Thought he was well off the pace against West Coast, but his 2nd halves in the next 3 finals were clutch as ****

Nearly everything he touched turned to gold.

Hunter was damaging at times against Hawthorn and Sydney also, but not as consistent as Jack.
Agree,in most of my comments I have excluded his performance in the Elim. I had him with no Ching votes in that game but followed with 4,5,5 in the other finals and the 4 came in a 39 possession game

I love Macrae. He's such a workhorse. I like that there's no fanfare. He just goes about his business. Kind of bloke that would not give a stuff that no one notices half the stuff he does.

On a side note. Does anyone else at times forget that we won the grand final and then you see something that jolts it back in to your mind. I still actually cannot believe they did it. Might be time for me to watch the replay again.

Agree with you, DR.

I think, though, that "workhorse" is a bit blue collar for the things he does.

I prefer to call him "The Architect". :thumbsu:

Macrae at half forward often goes inboard just when everyone is least expecting it and more often than not finds a target around fifty out or a little closer. No bombing the thing indiscriminately forward for Jack. He cuts defenses open time after time. The kicks are risky and every now and then be fluffs one...but the reward is oh so worth the risk. Macrae is now a genuine gun footballer. Runs so bloody hard too - a bit like Eagleton used to be with his often unrewarded running that just blows the opposition press up.

It would be nice if we could combine Eagleton's raking kicking with all of Macrae's other footy skills :rainbow:

To be fair, he hadn't played for five weeks.

Macrae is a star. Check out how many goals we scored directly from Macrae being involved.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, or if anyone else had noticed, but I thought it was pretty cool that Picken kicked our first goal of the finals and our final goal of the finals.

He has come on in leaps and bounds in the last couple of years. Easily in our first ten picked now.

Yeah I know, it was a fair few, particularly the important Stringer and Picken goals in the last quarter when Sydney were still in the game.

I'll take Jack's tackling, pressure and ability to win the hard ball over Eagleton's kicking any day. Macrae is much more the complete footballer than Eagleton ever was. Nathan was a very good footballer - Jack is a gun.

He always was in our first 10 picked anyway. Was great at whatever he was asked to do. Just now he's got a well-rounded game.

Except for when Macca dropped him....
Let me rephrase: he was and is the type of player that any competent game day coach would pick first.

He may have been first ten picked in an ordinary team. Now he is first ten picked in a premiership team. Massive difference.

The Picken in 2014 would definitely not be in the first ten picked in our current team.

The Picken in 2014 would be playing the same way as he has this year (maybe not to quite as high a level but still to a high level) if he had been allowed to. But he wasn't allowed to under the previous coach, Bevo let him loose a bit more and he's suddenly improved out of sight. He was always this good, but he finally got to be able to show it.

Hmm yes. Apparently one player was possibly coming to us while Macca was coaching and chose another club 'based on the coach'...... went on to win a B&F :(

So who wants to list each club's BandF for the last few years and then relentlessly hassle Fossie on each name on the list until we work it out?

Has to be one of Brendan Goddard, Heath Shaw, Dayne Beams or Shane Mumford then I think, given Macca would have been around for the 2011, 12, 13 and 14 trade periods. I'd say Shaw most likely from those options.

I think you can rule out Beams because he wanted to go to Queensland.

I'm going to guess Sam Docherty.

The pre game I can't really remember Vance Joy, standing room is chaotic (having a seat maybe different??) but he sounded so good at the after match show. I didn't wait around to see the Living End I was stuffed.

Never heard of Vance Joy , but liked his work. Sting done well , but Sting / Police music boring as all get out!
Living End - rubbish.

Start lobbying to get Noddy Holder , Slade would get the MCG jumping !
