Portsmouth 1-1 Birmingham City

Unsworth - very dodgy penalty decision according to Radio WM. Just like last year at Fratton. Fecking typical.

According too the Quay radio comm it was a stone cold penalty. Just like last year at Fratton, Ray. Depends which market the radio stations are aiming thier commentary at, I s'pose.
I could also mention the fact that just like last year your mob shoulda been down too 10 men but the ref showed you some leniency. Fecking typical! ;)
Nice one Unsy great way too endear yourself to your new fans. Good solid point from what was a danger game.
P.S. thanx Villa! :D ;)

Some team news:

Dwight Yorke starting for Blackburn with Gallagher and Dickov on the bench.
Fulham going with 3 strikers away at Man City with Cole, Radzinski and John all named.

John and Radzinski played more as wingers, Cole did most of the donkey work up front by himself. Attack was not high on the agenda for Fulham today.

Yeah, i was just going to say that myself. Even so, looks like Collins John is going to continue on his merry way from where he left off last season. The kid has some talent.

Anyway, I'm happy with the result; a draw is a particularly good return first up.

I don't think there is much doubting the talent of John, he was making the odd comment last year that suggest that he had made it in football, I think that is the thing that may hold him back.

Had to laugh at Steve McLaren saying that he was looking at character and attitude, and then claiming that this "just great result" was an example of that.

Must have been looking the other way when Piggybaink handballed the equaliser into the back of the net. Piggybaink showed his character by refusing to admit after the game that the ball had gone off his arm.

Boro should have had a penalty earlier in the match, but I would be embarassed to have got a point in that manner.

HAHAHA embarrassed my arse. makes it even sweeter. We've been robbed by dodgy decisions against those twats too many times. Hass you are a legend.

We should have had two penalties moomba

Good point to start the season :)

It wasnt a dodgy decision it was cheating pure and simple. If you are happy with that I hope we don't see you whinging about decisions that don't go your way.

BTW, how long do you expect until the first major Hasselbaink/Mendieta fallout. iggybaink was throwing the toys out the pram all game because Mendietta didnt pass to him, I suspect will get told where to go before too long

Dudek will be dropped and Kirkland will come in as the number 1 goal keeper. Should have made a better effort to save that goal.

Don't blame the keeper, blame the defence that let one of the msot clinical finishers in the league have a free shot at the keeper with very little pressure on him.

Cheating? strikers instinct? call it what you want ;) If it happens to Boro I will whinge long and loud because that's what supporters do. I am a believer in it all evening out over the season though (apart from the big clubs) and I think after this game we are still even when you take into account our missed penalties.

I think that Mendieta and the rest of our squad will expect Hass to throw tantrums when he doesn't get the service he wants. He is a striker, that's what they do. I doubt it will effect Mendieta at all.

What did you think of the game moomba? Was a bit scrappy at times but I thought both sides showed they will do well this season. I doubt Boro will be the boring side you like to portray them as this season.

Looking forward to Arsenal now.

Only watched 10 minutes or so highlights, it was OK without being particularly exciting. I don't think it was a very good indication of where either team is at. I suspect they will still be the boring side, particularly away from home. A leopard doesn't change it's spots, but I guess we will have to wait and see.

I did like "Defending a long ball according to Chris Riggott" I must admit, would have been quite amusing if Bellmay wasn't the recipient of Riggot's generosity.

At home, in very dubious and lucky circumstances, against a side at half-strength and with Robbie Elliott as a centre-back?

Glad you're happy, because I would have taken a point before kick-off, but after being ahead after 90 minutes you'd want all three.

Ahh well that's probably the second biggest moment in ther history.

I think Arse would be looking forward to you more than you are looking forward to them somehow.

Yeah but GoerdieRoo rember that boro lost 15 out of 18 or something against the toon in the past years and with that kinda track record you'd take a point no matter how.

Bit of a rusty start from Rovers. Ferguson, Short, Gray and Yorke the only players that looked ready for the season.

De Pedro apparently needs alot of fitness.

Silly formation chosen from Souey to start with, which included Gresko at CM  while Tugay was on the bench.

He's been called up into Marco van Basten's (and Johan Cruyff's) Dutch squad. Hell of an effort.

Half strength my arse. We had as many out as you did. You sound bitter, what's Newcastle's biggest moment in your living memory

Has Birmingham ever conceded a penalty that wasn't dodgy according to the ever so non-biased radio commentators?

In a word, No! ;) Much anger also being vented by Blues fans in the aftermath after a clear handball by Linvoy Primus in the box was waved away by the hom .. er, I mean referee.

Yeah I'd probably have too agree with that one Ray. Even according to our commentators we were lucky to get away with that, but then who says they would have scored from the penalty anyways? That's football I guess.
