Kelly was excellent, loved what Harley did today, Hough looks a gun in the making.

As far as 67 point losses go, that wasn’t too bad. Definitely positives to take from it.

Hell even Barnett and Dewar looked decent in the limited game time they got.

Although bottom 4 beckons for us again this year, definitely plenty of young players to watch with interest this year.

I just get less and less confident Duggan and Cole are even AFL standard.

Cole is at his best given licence to counter attack but I'm not sure he can do a better job of that than Hunt, Witherden and Jones. He certainly can't be trusted as a lockdown type.

Duggan is a huge problem. He can't defend and he is useless at rebounding. He is hopeless in the midfield too. It's laughable he is sharing the captaincy with Oscar.
Both are role players.

Just leaving the game.

Harley is gonna be a beauty!

BBW is just not big enough to handle the big rucks.

We were 2nd to the ball SO much!!

RoB is in the top handful of Ruckmen I think. His running has gone up a notch too by the look of today

He'll beat up better rucks than Bailey this year.

Yeah not having a go at Bailey, he was busting his butt.

It's such a shame Flynn got injured though, reckon O'Brien is similar to Flynn as in giant battler

One thing is BBW is not a forward, please end that idea

Williams in the ruck is going to be determential to our developing mids. When Barnett was on Harley and others could actually shark the taps. Could explain why Ginbey has a tough time sharking as well

It's very deflating for a mid to get a team ruckman banging it into space where the opponent has a 50/50 chance to win it.

Or what Williams loves to do is tap it himself and blocks our mids path to the ball.

We should look into Barnett primary tap ruck then Williams swaps to follow the ruck around.

Harry looks easily our best fit ruckman. Hope we see him play in the regular season matches. BBBW looks to have gone backwards.

For a game where we were flogged, I took a few positives out of that.

  • Gov and TK were excellent.
  • Barrass played well.
  • Petch showed a bit. He's at a stage in his career where he should be doing so regularly, but today was progress.
  • Very impressed by Reid and Hough.
  • Chesser, Jamieson and Rawlinson (except for one howler of a turnover) all showed good signs.
  • Nowhere near AFL-ready yet, but I thought Barnett looked promising at times.
Our disposal into the forward line remains terrible and with Flynn out we can look forward to losing the majority of ruck contests, but oh well. A bottom two finish looks inevitable anyway, so best to accept that early on and treat 2024 as a long pre-season for 2025.

And the umpiring was absolute trash today and you all know it.

Positives:
Vets: Kelly, Yeo, Gov
Kids: Harley, Rawlinson, Hough, Barnett

Must not play R1: Petch, Gaff, Witho

Petch’s goals were window dressing for an abomination of a game. If they want their spots they should be made to earn them off the kids. I would feel far more confident with Burgiel running off a flank instead of Witho, Chesser on a wing instead of Gaff and Jones or even Johnston or an underdone Hewett forward pocket/HFF instead of Petch.

There aren’t any names who are worse that’s why…

We really need an X-factor line breaker like Rankine. Who’s it going to be? New draftee? Hewett?
Im hoping Brockman, supposedly he did some time in the midfield during the offseason. If he can do 30% CBAs, leaves a space for Rawlinson to come in or Hewett/Reid or whoever to rotate forward too
