However, they did lose the game according to Collingwood supporters (and Maynard) because he didn’t receive a free kick in that 1v2
There are 100 others in that game that were normal free kicks but weren’t paid. It was a 50/50 at best (this doesn’t mean it was a free) and umpire did what he did entire game, play on.
Isn’t it delicious that now when you query their own premiership win with a questionable call in the dying seconds their answer is you have to play the whistle? However, they did lose the game according to Collingwood supporters (and Maynard) because he didn’t receive a free kick in that 1v2
Maric could hardly have a better teacher as he transforms himself into a defender. Interesting that he’s focused on building his endurance this off season which would partly explain why he doesn’t seem to have put on much bulk- although he does say he’s built on his strength as well
Going to be interesting to see how Hurn goes in a coaching role after taking a year off. I think he’ll excel
"now just remember, Ryan...long, and to the right. This concludes today's lesson."
In all seriousness though, love seeing Hurn back at the club mentoring the younguns.
Legit giving him the kickouts is the first step in utilising him properly.
If they're serious about getting the ball into his hands, given it's been reported the club rate him as one of our better kicks, he should get the first look in the first praccy game.
Pretty lame list of alternate options.
- Duggan running onto his non preferred and kicking long to the right
- Hunt running almost too far and kicking it long to the right.
- Cole running into the pocket and kicking it long to the right.
Or the more rarer alternative
- McGovern choosing to bite off a super risky kick and turning it over.
Legit giving him the kickouts is the first step in utilising him properly.
Who is the unit behind him?
Go Eagles, where have you been?I go to all the public training sessions and I am tellin ya all there is spring in the Eagles players steps like it happened in the 2010/11 pre season when they went from wooden spooners to almost winning the premiership.
Watch out Australia
Of course he lost it for them, If he had been between rioli and sheed he would have been able to spoil and Collingwood would have won the game.Come off it… Collingwood didn’t lose the game because a bloke lost a 1v2
I was there last Wednesday and I agree. The angles have never crazier or more subtleI go to all the public training sessions and I am tellin ya all there is spring in the Eagles players steps like it happened in the 2010/11 pre season when they went from wooden spooners to almost winning the premiership.

Jeez a bit harsh, 1st of all he had to defend against 2, and any defender worth their salt would stand where he was, trying to force the forward to lead or mark towards the boundary line, where it’s clearly a tougher shot on goal.Of course he lost it for them, If he had been between rioli and sheed he would have been able to spoil and Collingwood would have won the game.
Sorry can’t agree. I think Brayshaw was dumb! Didn’t protect himself at all.**** maynard ends a blokes career and his punishment is getting to play in a grand final .
Privileged vic flog we all know if it was one of our players in the same position it would have been a suspension
Ribbish take mate .Sorry can’t agree. I think Brayshaw was dumb! Didn’t protect himself at all.
Bit like some of the young drivers you come across today. Put themselves into perilous positions blithely and expect you to brake or swerve to avoid them. “ I don’t have to protect myself;you do it for me”!!
If it was me jumping in Maynard’s place I would have expected Brayshaw to A. Pull up.
B. Swerve to one side.
C. Drop the shoulder and brace for the hit.
D. I wouldn’t have budgeted for him running face forward with a “Hit Me” sign on his chest!
Oh so Maynard’s not allowed to protect himself? Dunno about you mate!! but I have always gone by the motto “ brace for contact”Ribbish take mate .
100% if maynard had have been decending on a team mate instead of an opponent no way he would have dropped the shoulder like that. He would have put his arms out to brace .
Brayshaw had just kicked the ball it takes a few strides to gather . He had no chance to avoid the impact .
Yeah and if you brace for contact and hit someone in the head you are supposed to get suspended.Oh so Maynard’s not allowed to protect himself? Dunno about you mate!! but I have always gone by the motto “ brace for contact”
They forget the htb that wasn't given i think in the second quarter which we should have got. However, they did lose the game according to Collingwood supporters (and Maynard) because he didn’t receive a free kick in that 1v2
