Roast Problem with the Gary Ayres medal for best finals player.

Let me know when there's something to show for it. You're on par with Carlton '99
Still have one more flag than the Pies in the last 10 years.
Still not paying gun players to play for different clubs.
Still have a list very capable of competing for the next 5 years.

Probably fitting named award as as good as Ayers was, he wasn’t the best finals player in his team.

Hahahahah fk me I won't even begin on the top point
That's more embarrassing for your club than mine. Any other club would win flags with gun midfielders being paid to play for them.
I look forward to the next 5 years because you might be competitive but you won't win a flag, unless you get 300 frees a final like you did last time

Where was McCrae with 8.50 mins left in the 3rd qtr? I know where he should have been. Nothing against the lad, he's a ripper, but the player of the finals series surely needs to have reached some minimum performance in the BIGGEST game of the year?

Which points me in the direction there are so many flaws and potential conflicts in how it is judged, it makes the concept of iffy importance.

Sorry, the cries of an extremely bitter Collingwood supporter ring on deaf ears. We'll be fine and deep down, you know it.

You didn't already get a hint with Oliver Wines equaling the record tally in the Brownlow?
Reality check: they're just awards. They don't merit extensive analysis.

They should SURVIVE some analysis.

I didn't even know it existed before opening this thread.

Seems like this "Medal" is like the ANZAC day one, and others awarded for regular-season games like the "Glendinning–Allan Medal" and "Brett Kirk Medal" - novelty gimmicks created by the AFL marketing department that almost nobody cares about.

In my opinion the awards that matter are;

Norm Smith
Brownlow
Club B+F
AFLCA (quickly becoming the true judge of the best player each year)

Many would argue the Coleman should be up there, but I've never really rated it's importance.

Conceding 16 of the last 17 goals in the biggest game of all doesn't scream fine but hey, if you're happy with what materialised then that's all you, dawg

I can see it for what it is: just one game. West Coast got belted in the 2015 Grand Final, didn't stop them from winning in 2018. Richmond got belted by your mob in the 2018 Preliminary Final, didn't stop them from winning the next two flags.

We still have a great young list and are primed to content for the next 5 years minimum. Your club is rotting at the bottom, paying 300k a year to one of our best midfielders for the next 4 years, paying 1 million a year to a guy who doesn't care for the next 6 years and traded away pick 2 this year because you thought you were contenders. That's as embarrassing as it gets.

It doesn’t matter about lockdown. It doesn’t discount the fact that 2021 has the MFC name on it. You’re simply assuming that everyone has to jump around like a clown with everyone else to enjoy it. You can enjoy the win however you want.
Nah fair enough. As you were. 20 odd posts about the Gary Ayres medal sure does sound enjoyable. Don’t know why I didn’t think of it back in 2016.

Tell me the lotto numbers champ

Won the Norm Smith twice, I'd say that puts him right up there with the best in finals.
Best in those two grand finals. Gary Buckenara is generally regarded as the greatest big game player of that dominant hawks team. Although Conan had a couple of ripping grand finals the 1986 and 1988 Grand Finals were pretty much over at quarter time.

The potential for players winning by playing an extra game isn’t great. I feel the voting system itself probably is the biggest flaw. Unlike the Brownlow which is more likely to average out over the year the Gary Ayres medal is extremely dependent on how the rest of your team plays.

To me Trac’s games where significantly better than Macraes but he didn’t get the votes due to other players playing better (Oliver and Gawn) or how Trac only got 6 votes for his PF game is a joke.

Only way around it has having the best 5 players on the ground rated out of 10. Everyone else gets zero. Total scores averaged by games played where games played is round up to 3 for those who played only 1 or 2 finals so teams that make the GF are more likely to win.

GF should then be out of 20. That might fix it.

It's childish, and when the mud came back at you, you cracked the shits, even more childish.
Nope.
If you're going to harp on about the Bulldogs performance in the Grand Final or make fun of Treloar, be mindful of who you support.

Notice how you're only having a crack at me but not your mate with these posts. This is why you fail:

You're upset
Very, very upset. Don’t worry sweetheart you’ll get over it
