By do your research they mean google a few quacks, not spend 3-4 years on an undergraduate degree at uni, then many more years doing a doctorate, and a couple of decades working in the field.

From what I gather they have mentally convinced themselves the entire Catholic Church Child Sex Abuse scandal is just a far left Marxist/Atheist attempt to destroy the institution. They think the cases were isolated, happen decades ago and most of the allegations are just liars looking to blackmail the church into giving them money. They’ll swear black and blue (without evidence) that the rate of abuse in public schools controlled by the “far left Marxist teacher’s unions” is 10x higher than in the Church.

I only link this filthy site as evidence of this notion, but here’s an apologist site which basically tries to paint the abuse scandal as fiction cooked up by “far left Marxists” to destroy the “great conservatives institution of the Church”.

I would like to think that I should be shocked by that website but it just reinforces what we have seen in Australia over the last twenty plus years. Denial and deflection.
There is nothing now that shocks me about the Catholic church and it's defenders. Even Tony Abbotts speech at the funeral wasn't that much of a surprise to me.
The only crowning glory of Mr Pell might be accelerating the demise and influence of the Catholic religion in Australia.

The only Australian Saint is Mary MacKillop. Therefore, despite Abbott’s ramblings, she should be considered the greatest Catholic Australia has ever produced. She was also excommunicated for exposing a paedophile priest, whom the church shipped off to Ireland rather than report to the authorities.

It also takes about 100 years for the application for a saint to be “processed” if you want to call it that. So Pell’s sycophants will be long buried before he’s declared a saint.

Abbott’s speech was just politics. They were probably glad that Albo and the others didn’t attend as it gave them free reign to make it a campaign speech.

Clearly the LNP values the powerful and wealthy over the poor and vulnerable in our society. They'll cover up any and all crimes committed against the downtrodden and hold up the powerful no matter what they've done.

THe irony that this is completely the opposite of the New Testament tells you all you need to know about Conservatives and Religious people.
