Priests and the like aren’t gay they are just interpreting gods love

Sound bizarre? How's immaculate conception then?
Your mention of the Immaculate Conception always reminds me of the tale
of little Johnny who hearing about the Virgin Birth in Sunday school was told
to present his take on the yarn the following Sunday.
His Take:
"The baby Jesus was all due to the Virgin Mary's Immaculate Contraption."
For some reason, I am sure I read this in the Reader's Digest.

Just to clarify paedophiles isn’t specifically linked to heterosexuality or homosexuality. You can identify as either and be a paedophile.

There were more priests abusing boys because they generally were left alone with boys more. Like how nuns were more likely to abuse young girls.

Not sure if this has been posted in this thread yet, but the reason he was called Big George had nothing to do with his height.
Apparently he was hung like a Donkey and enjoyed showing the size of his manhood to anyone who wanted to see it

Did he also have a pet duck? Ziggy?

I'm fairly certain no one wanted to see it...

Now that Australia’s actual greatest Catholic of the 21st century (RIP Bob) has passed away have any of the Abbott/Howard/Dutton mob who shed bucketloads over Pell even bothered to put out a forced press release acknowledging Father Bob’s existence or does this just confirm their support for a “great Catholic” was indeed support for a fellow ideological conservative, even one who r*ped kids and covered up for his mates?

Rather more grace shown by Hollingworth in retirement.

“Iwish to announce that earlier this week I notified the Anglican Archbishop of Melbourne that I will be returning my Permission to Officiate (PTO).

Despite the Professional Standards Board (PSB) inquiry finding that I was fit to retain my licence because I was not a risk of harm to anyone, I am concerned that my continuing to exercise priestly functions as a bishop is a cause of pain to survivors. I want to end distress to them, and division within the church.

As Archbishop of Brisbane from 1990 to 2001, I was ill-equipped to deal with the child abuse issue and, like some other church people, was too defensive of the church on the advice of lawyers and insurers. I say that as a matter of context, not as an excuse. I have lived with my failures every day since.

It is more than 20 years since allegations against me were first made. There have been five separate inquiries, including the five-year inquiry by the PSB. They have occupied countless time, energy, emotion and expense for many people.

Many times I have acknowledged that I made mistakes and issued apologies. My regrets have become even more profound over the years, as we have all gained a better understanding of the impact of child sexual abuse through the Royal Commission into Institutional Child Sexual Abuse and other investigations.

But I did not commit a crime. I did not cover up sexual abuse. And I was not an abuser. The PTO, commonly granted to retired priests, allowed me to conduct services at my local parish as well as marriages, funerals and baptisms. While I will no longer perform these duties, I will continue my lifelong commitment to social justice and service to the community.”

Hollingworth rightfully retires.

Pell got a promotion.

Look closely at Hollingsworth - did he act in a reasonable manner? Ronald Mulkearns made mistakes as well so he said, is there that much difference? At the end of the day he didn’t do enough - he should have pulled the pin years ago - actions speak louder than words his actions now are hollow

not so sure that means much. now if hollingworth stopped his $300,000 + gov’t pension and returned the millions already paid to him then maybe. oh there’s an office we pay for too

Not making excuses for the guy, just that at least he admits to culpability and actually takes some responsibility and says sorry.
Pell refused to accept even a scintilla of blame and showed not a jot of remorse.
But yes, the points above are well made.

God, are we still going on about this?

The poor man is dead and proven in to be innocent.
I know how you lefties hate facts but JC give it a rest already.
Even Dan and the deplorable Victorian judicial system that railroaded the innocent man have the common decency to accept the truth.

He is certainly guilty of hiding and enabling peadophile priests who went on to commit more crimes. So childrens lives were destroyed by Pells inaction. The Royal Commission believed he covered it up.

Was he a peadophile himself. It's not proven but I know a Ballarat family who say he molested their child, they have claimed this for decades before it all came to a head. He was a grub, a monster. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
