In his own words
What type of player are you?
Tall and quick for my height. Skinny but tough.

Dustin Fletcher - he is tall and not too built (muscular) but has a good reach and is quick for his height.

I'm tall, I can jump high, I'm very competitive, a good mark and a long kick.

What parts of your game would you like to improve?
My mental toughness, my all-round game and my ruckwork.

Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?
I support Richmond, always have, my whole family does so I just followed on and Richo was my idol.

My father - he has taught me so much about my game and being a coach he sees stuff others wouldn't.

Matt Burgan's draft rating: 40-late

56. Carlton - Simon White - Who?

I must admit I don't understand this, what are we doing?

Simon White, 20yo played for WAFL runners up Subiaco, 190cm, HB can play tall or small, runs about a 2.90 20m, brave, neat skills, loves to run and carry off HB and can drift forward and kick goals......coach Scott Watters was a big rap.......very handy pick up at this stage......I actually had him in my ND top 50 list :)

Burgan thought he'd go Late 40s in the ND

Surely that is a mistake. Is he a 193cm ruckmen???

That is a big leap :0

HA HA Carlton just picked up another Ranga in Donaldson it seems :)

He really needs to go and eat like a horse, the bloke is skinny as a rake, but does appear to have big wraps on him.

I'm pleased with his selection.

A bunch of really exciting project players there. At this late stage of the draft anyone you pick up is going to have flaws, it seems the two faults we're steering clear of are bad character and lack of pace.

Simon White
Height: 190cm
Weight: 88kg
DOB: 17/06/88
Recruited from: Subiaco (WA)

"Simon White may be 21 years old but he has well and truly staked his claim for a spot on an AFL Club’s list. A tall defender who also has the ability to push forward at critical times, White has excellent closing speed, a high leap and strong hands.

Simon White has spent 2009 playing in the WAFL for Subiaco and has had an outstanding year, winning the clubs rising star award. He played 19 games for the seniors and impressed with his ability to shut players down. His strong performances throughout the season saw him attend the WA Draft Tests back in October.

Some say he will be the perfect replacement for recently retired West Coast Eagles defender Adam Hunter, which would no doubt suit White given he has been a long time West Coast supporter. He is good in a one-on-one marking contest thanks to his great hands and his closing speed sees him spoil his opponent frequently."

Sounds a bit like Jamison

Pick 15. Jaryd Cachia Height: 184cm - Weight: 84kg - DOB: 18
Club: Northern Knights (VIC)

Sydney get Jarryd, who was very good at U16 level but did not progress as well as I expected and he has since dropped in my rankings. Jarryd is a good solid mid who does his best work inside but is capable of finding the ball outside. Athletically he is reasonably good, he is quick enough, yet not lightning, and he is fairly agile, his endurance is good yet IMO needs to improve. He is good inside, possibly needs to improve defensively, and he can dish out handballs well, although on occasions I have questioned his hardness at the ball, sometimes he can be accused of skirting packs. His kicking is generally all right off his right foot, yet his left foot is very poor, he also probably lacks a bit of penetration when kicking.

Pick 31.
Joe Dare:
Height: 190cm - Weight: 83kg - DOB: 17/10/91
Club: Geelong Falcons

This kid has really jumped out of the blue this year and had a very good TAC season, particularly the second half of the season, to the point where he really should be drafted in the Rookie draft, and he was one I was surprised was not picked up earlier. He is predominantly a half back flanker in the Milburn or Enright mould, i.e. can play as a third tall and provide good run and has good disposal, but athletically he is just average On a side note I think he has the ability to become a good third tall (he has played there in patches in the TAC) with his clean skills and good marking, although maybe pace is an issue.

I do have major doubts on how he will perform at AFL level as a defender, with his lack of athletic ability especially his mediocre pace, which may see him to be exposed on the lead; this could see him become a liability in defence at AFL level. He is quite strong one-on-one and can hold his position nicely, he seems to be reasonably strong through the core, and he has strong defensive capabilities which should hold him in good stead for the future. I could see him playing as a third defender who helps out with the key defenders on the bigmen, ala Tom Harley (another with no pace). There is a slight chance he may grow 2 or 3 more cm (not out of the question has reportedly grown a lot over the last year) to become a genuine key position size, and potentially a very good CHB/CHF, although his endurance will need to improve. His marking overhead is actually quite good, and he can take a strong contested mark, which may serve him well as a forward.

He has a very good kick over about 50m max, and can hit most targets with reasonably flat passes that are quite accurate with good weighting, when needed. He also seems to be reasonably footy smart, and this leads to excellent decision making coming out of defence. He also seems to find the ball quite well coming out of defence and he seems to read the play very well, which allows him to set up attack from defence. Dare has good hands below his knees and rarely fumbles, and he seems to be hard at the ball and the man, he is a good strong tackler.

Joseph Dare seems like a very good prospect here, and one who I would have thought would have gone in the draft. Whilst I have doubts on whether he will make it, athletically mainly, he could become a player similar to Bock/Harley (more in the way they play the game not them themselves) and become a very good AFL contributor, but probably not a star. Furthermore from all reports he has an excellent kid and will work hard to get the best out of himself.

Pick 44. Levi Casboult: Height 198cm, Weight 103kg, Club: Dandenong Stingrays
Overage kid who was on the cusp of being recruited last year. I guess you could say this was a weak draft and therefore the overage kids were at an advantage but you can only play well and this kid did that plus some. Big boy whose body would be ready for an AFL senior game who is very mobile (tested super well at SS) and can play ruck and fwd. He is not dissimilar to Lade in that way and he would be well worth a punt at this stage of the rookie. He also has a very accurate kick…again like Lade. People will say how much development is left but look these tall kids need time and he will learn how to position himself better and make use of his physicality.

Pick 56 - Simon White Weight: 190cm, Weight: 88kg, DOB: 17/06/88
Recruited from: Subiaco (WA)

Bio: Versatile tall who generally plays down back, in which his closing speed makes him a headache for leading forwards. Can go forward and kick goals at crucial stages. Great leap and is strong overhead.

Athletic tall who has terrific pace for a big fella and will probably settle as a FB or CHB. 21 yo so some chance to play pretty quickly.

West Coast have apparently indicated that they are willing to take a mature age player in White who is a third tall. I have barely seen him so I can’t give a massive description but he seems very quick, from testing, good defensively and has a good skill base, kicking appears to be above average and dependable. He is only 190cm?? so he is probably a tweener but is good on medium talls and can spoil well as the third man up in contests.

Pick 66. Joshua Donaldson Height: 195cm - Weight: 87kg - DOB: 04/05/91, Club: West Perth (WA)

A player here I think, is a bit of a project player but in a couple of years could be a very good fullback. He has very good athletic attributes, but has spent the majority of his time at ruck, yet at 193 he is too short despite the leap. Unlucky not to go in the national draft, particularly with his athletic attributes, yet in retrospect he is the perfect rookie as he needs to learn to play a different position.

Bio: He has the pace, agility and leap to become a FB, and he has long gorilla arms which should allow him to spoil well. He has played predominantly as ruckman but at 193 he is far too short to continue, and so he needs to redefine his position too what I think should be fullback. The Dockers need a big-bodied full-back for the future, or even a CHB, and Donaldson could develop into this type. His marking is reasonable but not great, although he seems to get his hands on the ball first most of the time IMO. His kicking is good, but could use some improvement, although he will improve over time. This is very much a project pick, who could turn out to be a fullback like a Merrett or a spud.

Thanks to Snoop Dog and Offsider...

You muppets dont think that through almost 90 picks in the ND, 7 in the Pre-Season Draft and over 40 in the Rookie Draft, there may be just some reason Panos hadn't been taken... FFS.

Thats over 130 picks... We have no ****n idea at all. There are people who look at these kids full time...

Stop being a you-tube hero recruiters and believe in the club...

Could just copy and paste your post into all 16 club boards on BF?
