Really professional, but yes, I'm quoting myself...

What were Yze's stats, out of interest?

Yze had 13 disposals at 38% effectiveness, 5 marks and kicked 2 behinds. Bowden also had 13 disposals at 92%, 4 marks and kicked a behind, despite spending much of his time down back. A few tackles too. 7 of those disposals came in the last quarter.

That's a flogging. Yze had no impact whatsoever.

So why are you all whinging? Because Bowden didn't combine his stopping game with his quarterback role, as he's done so successfully for the last few years? With Deledio and Tambling running off half-back so effectively, was he needed for this?

I think we should take the lead from the pies here and employ bowden as an assistant coach and play him in the vfl next season as a coburg listed player. this is what the pies have done with Licuria. it's important to keep the leaders of the club around and keep the 2's successful so as the youngsters can bring through a winners culture. Bowden might have some shortfalls on the field - doesn't get his hands dirty enough - but he has been a ripping player. Two all australians. Two BF's and almost a third. And he is yellow and black through and through. it would be killing him to be past his best atm but just because he is there is no excuse for bagging him.

Cant wait to hear him as an assistant coach tell a player to go in harder, only to be told that he never did.

But that's not a bad idea. He may be a good coach someday.

Yze has had no impact for 18 months though;)

Perhaps.

But how many times have those kind of players (out of form, etc) cut us up? ;)

Just trying to provide a reasoned opposing view, that was all. I think Bowden is on his way out, but he did his job last night. Certainly doesn't deserve the rubbish he's copping from some in this thread.

If my uncle was a lazy, soft w***er that was holding back the growth of the family company,I would give him an ear full and then fire the prick,

LMAO now that is funny stuff :p :thumbsu:

When Bowden retires from the game, it wont even be noticed in the playing sense, there will be no hole left and the club will continue on.

When Richo retires, we need a replacement or 2 and we will be worse off without the big guy.

The difference between 2 Richmond players with a true Richmond history.

fair enough mate, wasn't having a dig at you, was just providing another aspect of the whole scenario. As you say there's always two sides (opinions) to every story. I'm no great Bowden fan but you can only do what you gotta do and Yze did do nothing - whether he (yze) has the ability to still do anything is another story...

keeeeeeeerect....Yze & Bowden are in the same boat and its sinking quick..i.e...the tiger Bowden kept the dee equivalent Bowden quiet..;)

so....

if your a player (Joel Bowden in this case) who has served the club honourably for an extended period and has had your glory days, past your highs/peaks, accepted all your accolades, achieved representative honours and taken all your awards then you are allowed to offer little and play like crap out on the field.

its fine to be an over the hill slow hack with not one skerrick of a defensive pressure game because at richmond you will be given the game time which could instead be the crucial time afforded to developing a promising junior.

is that right Bowdo lovers?

well put coach.

while i think we'll be fine post richo (thats a whole nother post) the difference between the holes that will be left when each retires is huge.

bowdo will be immediately replaced in fact i believe upgraded where as richo will need 2-3 players to fill the void.

2 mobile talls and a small for mine.

we have put more time into young players in the last 4 years then any other club you still need to provide some older players to stop us getting flogged every week.

if you have an axe to grind go find a forest and stop waisting your time posting rubbish on here.

no axe to grind at all, just amused that richmond has always lacked the goolies to make the hard decisions and instead held onto players longer than we should because of nostalgia.

theres absolutely no reason why bowden could not offer his experience in another capacity off the field or at the burgs.

yes, his experiences in footy are worthless and it doesnt mean he cant pass them on because he's not in the seniors.

your development argument doesnt stack up either because development of juniors THIS year (not the past 4) has grinded to a halt because senior players like bowden have been afforded games when you sometimes wonder why it wasnt given to a junior instead.

how many juniors have we debuted this year? thats right....ONE! that is despite Coburg gunning it while the tigers were getting pummelled.

im not talkin about the foleys/lids/tambo/schulz or moores im talkin about the last two drafts.

JON has finally been given a game when he could of easily come in earlier.

Hughes was unlucky to get the chop.

Edwards out, Hyde in (that speaks volumes in itself)

there are others too, like Collins... god what do we do? bring Tivendale into the side instead.

i have a feeling this is Bowdos last year anyway, he will do the HONOURABLE thing and retire at years end because he's an honourable type guy right?

unless of course spineless ninnys like yourself have a good cry about his "richmond" pride and pedigree and ask him to carry on.

Wallace did the right thing by sticking with him for this game.

He was close to being omitted, but TW and the selection committee knew he had more to contribute, and gave him another shot.

Well done TW :thumbsu:

The poor fellow can't win either way with you lot. He plays quarterback for us as his primary role and gets 35 touches gets blasted for not being accountable.

He plays accountable football on Yze/Johnson like last night and gets 18 or so touches and he is past it.

I believe he should be dropped to re-learn how it feels to be in control of a game, for what it's worth.

Terry is doing the right thing keeping him at the club for 2008.

His form last year wasn't bad so he deserved to play on, and while for other senior players I'd prefer they be moved on as soon as a youngster fills his spot, Joel helps to instill some Richmond passion into the kids.

We don't want a bunch of kids running around without really caring who they're running around for.

Richo and Bowden will be part of the team until they are past it. I am afraid to say, Joel appears to be past it and isn't enjoying his football these days. Never liked training and there is less down time than ever, I just hope he hangs around after he retires!

Thats just laughable. Bowden helps instill Richmond passion into the kids by playing without any passion whatsover.

Do you go to any games or do you just sit there swapping stories at the social club? Because Bowden couldnt care a less.

If that's the new spin why Joel is an untouchable, then we're lucky David Bourke is still not playing.

And what was it by your reckoning he contributed?

If you're on the payroll, you should declare it.

Good call High Flyer. And now some say, "Oh, he only beat Yze." Hardly Bowden's fault.

I hate Buddy Franklin but I'm still man enough to say that he is playing amazing football.
I've loved Bowden for years, but I'm man enough to say that he's past it now, it's time to retire.

Yze has had no impact for 18 months though;)
Exactly, Yze's current form is terrible, he'll be gone at the end of the year. We should have been playing a kid on him.

that is actually the best, most accurate post ive ever read out of this bowden fiasco

not really, yze is even more of a has been. even pettifer would of kept him quiet.

pick the least dangerous player this week and ill bet thats who bowdo plays on.

i wouldnt say he was the least dangerous player personally, coming off a 25 pos 2 goal game last week in a losing team spells to me he was in some decent form

but hey newmans man wonna nearly won them the game and he got even less touches then bowden no ones breathing down his neck are they?

For all those saying "leave Bowden alone, you weren't baggin him two years ago", I've got a memory of one of my favourite posts in my entire time here at BF.

Back when Spud put his head on the chopping block, there was a thread doing the rounds speculating who would be our next coach. Some cracker responses like "the blonde guy that carries the whiteboard", to "Denise Drysdale, at least she barracks for the club" etc.

One of my favourite posts from that thread - "Just let the crowd coach us. That way, when we all scream at Joel and Gaspar to get off, they have to listen to us".

He's been under the microscope for years, played two years of heavy possessions as a "quarterback", now struggling. Different era now, and more options. The end is nigh.

how do u respect someone who doesn't give a ____ but has everyone believing he does?
