great finish from siddle and nannes, getting the key wickets of haddin and lee... nannes' ball to Lee was a gem...

clean up the tail tomorrow, and then unleash Dussey...

He takes wickets, 35 at 21 to start off his career is sensational.

That he does - I guess I must have been expecting to see someone different.

Anyway good day for the Vics, pitch playing a little like the MCG so no excuses for them.

Only 23 years old too. If he can stay healthy for a while we may just have another quickie to watch out for.

As for the game, the key for the Vics is not to let Bracken, S.Clark and MacGoo get too many, then bat sensibly and be cautious of S.Clark in particular (he gets more love from Katich than he does from Ponting).

Great bowling Vics!

If/When we bat tomorrow if D Huss and Hodge tear up the NSW bowlers (Australian bowlers) its an absolute disgrace to Australian cricket. Those two should be in both forms of the game for Aus if it wasnt for bias selections.

Dussey maybe.

Hodge faaarrkk no. unless its the odd one-off Twenty20.

NSW to crap it in!

Siddle steps up when his team needed him. Superb effort against a very strong batting lineup, and with a pretty crook shoulder too.

Big test for Vics will be tomorrow against a near test quality attack. Clark will be the biggest threat on that pitch, important they get a good lead before making NSW bat again on a potentially crumbling pitch. Very big ask, but pretty much the only way they can win. Cannot see the side batting fourth being able to chase anything down on this track.

It's looking pretty positive, we must bowl them out for under 300, preferrably around 280, we need to get off to a good start with a solid opening partnership, the runs will come slowly, but we've got the quality in the middle order to make a score, if the openers can get us off to a nice start, it's a bonus.

Well bowled P. Siddy

Most enjoyable days cricket I've watched all summer. Better contest than most test matches that I've seen in ages.

And I reckon Siddle has just bowled himself into a place on the touring squad to the Windies - as back up quickie.

Good call Lidge, it wasn't "exciting" but it was hard fought that's for sure.

Siddle would be a great bowler in English conditions I think. Would love to see him and Hilfenhaus bowling as a tandem at the next Ashes battle.

McGain bowled well but not much spin - be interesting to see how Macgill goes. Good innings by Haddin - could be crucial but I await Hodge and Hussey.

WTF He bowled great today in unpleasant Australian conditions. Against 2/3 rds of the national squad.

He has already got Clark covered, time for big Pete just to get the shoulder niggle soughted out pick up the baggy green and enjoy a great and long test career.

Jaques has not only performed better, he keeps the team structure by allowing Huss to bat at 4

Hodge has a better Test average, similar games. Hodge is is by far a better fielder, has a better batting technique, and can provide a bowling option. Not to mention he is just a better bat.

I think Hussey needs to be moulded into a test opener, as you need one of your best two bats to open-ideally (To show some assertion in you innings), and I would think atm Hayden & Ponting are our best 2. When Haydos retires, I think we need Hussey, who will prob be our second bet bat, to open with Rogers/Jaques, so we may as well give him time to adjust to his role that he has already performed as a state player.

Fielding and bowling fine but when you see

Hodge:innings 9, 50's 1, 100's 1

compared to

Jaques: innings 13, 50's 5, 100's 2

Then add that Jaques is 5 years younger then i know who I'd choose

Test Team:-

M. Hussey
Hayden
Ponting
Hodge
Clarke
Symonds
Haddin
Lee
Johnson
Clark
McGain

Hodge > Jaques
Delusional.

Jacques is a mile better than Dussey who in turn is daylights better than Hodge at the minute.

If anything, Dussey maybe for Symonds.

I'd take MacGilla on the test tour as he is more experienced than McGain even though the Vic bloke has the best figures this season. And prolly take someone like Casson on tour, who isn't that far behind McGain and a lot younger.

With NSW bias like this you'll be a test selector in no time!

Mash ahead of Quiney is astounding.

Mash has done NOTHING this season. Quiney's best knock of the year was recorded against this very attack. What on earth would motivate them to make this call?

*said similiar statements about Jimmy Anderson's selection........hope it does the same here*

pffft, jaques will keep his spot as hes been very good at the top of the order.

Average performance by all bar jaques katich and haddin today

I totally agree, but maybe Phil Hughes should replace Hayden because he's younger. It could be time Forrest comes in to replace the underperforming Ponting as well. Katich has had an awesome year, and it is time he comes in for Hussey.
Now Dussey could replace Symonds, but that would be a tad unfair on Lambert who really hasn't put a foot wrong:confused:

Good to see Haddin finally get his chance after that traitor Gilly retired

Now I think Cameron, or Bracken really need to get an opportunity to replace Johnson, or we could just protest and ask for Casson and MacGill to work in tandem for the good of our country.

Ashley Giles is better than Casson
