I got down to moorooka for a look yesterday, solid crowd . carrara look big and try to play tough but moorooka just wore the early assault and beat them on sheer work rate and skill. the score line flatters the saints I think. but none the less looked like the standard in the comp has risen. Both teams had great passages of play through the middle of the ground and both sides had big bodys ! I I heard the carrara half time speech and not alot of positives and seemed to have conceded that they weren't fit enough. I heard the moorooka 3qtr time speech and it was calm and collective but by the sounds of it were a little disappointed and hoped to have put the foot down ! I was going to see the buffs take on roosters next weekend but might venture to another venue after the results i seen might be a waist of my day. my tips both carrara and moorooka top 4.

This is a great post not only for the Moorooka guys but also for the league with better footy being played this early in the season.

I heard the Tigers had a good win in the 1s& 2s. Spewing I was didn't get to see it

Sounds like a lotta rubbish is spoken here e.g pirates/roosters grandfinal after 1 round please lets not forget even now logan lost on the weekend they have a history of firing at the right end of the season they will lose a few and win a few in the first half of the season but they will win more than they will lose in the second half season. we've heard of all there hype surrounding the roosters but they also have a history of playing well the first part of the year but fading badly in the second half, my tip the big improvers will be uq as the club is looking to be promoted up to the highest level in the near future they have bolsted their playing stocks dramatically from what ive seen in pre-season. The PIRATES have recruited well but mainly all young kids the big question is can they maintain the intensity all year and then i think the club will battle to keep them as beenleigh/logan might start throwing some cash their way after all they are not that much further down the highway, As for the eagles/tigers game and im not taking anything away from tigers a win is a win but my spies tell me the eagles kicked woefully at one stage 1:10:16 and had over 20 scoring shots at goal not to mention the 7 players that doubled up, their reserves only had 13 players saturday morning hence the doubling up, the eagles have a few new young guns as well but need to improve on their finishing skills once they have sorted this out they will be the big improvers, and for my team the swannies i think we are going to make it very hard for every team that plays us especially at home its going to be a cracker of a season i think % will seperate most teams in the top 5.PS my spies tell me bondy still whinges like a bitch to the umpies

Think you need to read the scores for the whole game. 8 points in the first quarter then they scored another 8 points in the second quarter. Ipswich kicked only 1 goal in the first half. You don't win games by kicking a shit tonne of points. Maybe they should work on their goal kicking. Looking forward to playing the swans this year.

Agree with early talk meaning nothing until round 5 or so but in saying that I did tip Pine Rivers to make the GF! As far as Redcliffe & Ipswich go both teams were very undermanned so hard to gauge either, however the poor kicking was often a result of poor field position, there were many low % attempts. I think you could be right with UQ & if history repeats Logan may be true to form. Don't know much about the Pirates, Saints or Roosters and not sure what Beenleigh will serve up early but they also have a knack of improving their list around June. Ur spy must've been umpiring cause I didn't hear much audible whinging

Very aggressive first post lucky , u have to remember no matter what has happened during the off season everyone is gunna say there team has picked up the most recruits and have improved the most and will play the grand final and not loose a game , not sure I agree about UQ as there div 1 side got a belting last weekend and they have only just been elevated . I am however very interested to know about ure boys against caboolture 2 great wins for the club . Were u at the game can u share a little bit about the game . And even though it is only round 1 I'm sure everyone would rather be 1-0 than 0-1 so why not do some bragging well ure up ? Disagree about bondy, u are probably the whinger as the old saying goes " I know u are u said u are but what am I " . Just keep going hard at it joshy and u will get rewarded.

Where have all these recruits that everyone has come from??? Have more Mexicans moved up and only want to play qfa??? Why has no one recruited me??? Prob cause I suck. Lolz

Fair Spray...but seeing how it came direct from your spies, I guess I cant argue with your sources.

Just to clarify -
Your prediction (after round 1), UQ being the big improvers = Not Rubbish
Anyone else's post about Marooka or the Pirates after Round 1 = Rubbish
Interesting...

I do agree with your comments on Logan & Beenleigh, they are both second half specialists. So I wouldn't be writing them off just yet.

Anyway from our game on the weekend, Ipswich did play well. Had a lot of shots from 40-50m out, which is why they kicked a lot of behinds and weren't a bit closer on the scoreboard. Also didn't help they had players backup and one of their back men gave away a few 50's early which gifted us a few early goals from the goal square. Good hard game and good bunch of blokes, was definitely feeling it on Sunday.

Bring on Round 2, so we can hear some more 'Rubbish' predictions.

I reckon there would need to be significant $$ involved for players to transfer mid season to a team that their current team smacked by 20 goals and if they're mainly all kids I can't see beenleigh/logan putting too many zeros on the cheque.

The thing about the mid season revival of beenleigh and logan is that they have been off the back of quality mid season recruits. Recruits that (I am assuming) would be on reasonable $$ where they are and from the outside appear to transfer for the opportunity to play finals. It's going to be a tough sell to pull in the big names if they are playing off for 5th or 6th as instead of a top 2 spot as they have been in previous years.

Beenleigh & Logan poaching Griffith Moorooka or Park Ridge players for cash... That thought surely has crossed no-one's mind!!!
Ludicrous!
My theory, & theory only, regardless of any cash, imo those 2 clubs have near clearance cut-off resurgences due to good recruits (as u mentioned) however more a case of coast players trying higher grades & for one reason or another e.g not making it/enjoying it or getting paid for it then drop back to 'go for gold'

I can tell you in the past the buffs rarely had mid
season recruits and if they did it was mostly players friends that
eventually agreed to play and
rarely came from other clubs.
Bah the plethora of Surfers Paradise shirts in leui of Buffalo shirts at games in years gone by. I do believe though, it's more a mates thing than anything else, had some pretty good rivalry with Beenleigh over a long period (even when u were a Roo) but the fact
remains I respect Beenleigh as much as I wanted to beat them! If it was a cash thing, the comp would 'know' in the form of guns handing out hidings!

The very few surfers guys were mostly played on permit when we were short due to the relationship between the clubs.

We had maybe 3-4 in the last 2 years that stayed with us as they we're cut by surfers. Only 1 of them was paid a cent and it was petrol money as he drove an hour to training.
