QAFA (B) Central-2014

This argument getting trotted out again is pointless.

This is a bit of a social league with a competitive edge. The standard within this league has varied significantly every year, both as a whole and within the teams. Even to the point where within one season, a team can vary in quality by 10 to 15 goals.

The only real constant has been Jimboomba. They have had a solid playing group for years with a good core, they are always hard at it and put their heads over the footy and are reasonably consistent. They have won a couple of flags, played in at least 2 or 3 losing GF's and always play finals.

If anything, the side they had this year was one of the strongest I've seen from them - yet being bailed out early and finishing 4th is as low as they have finished. The links from QAFL Fan earlier are misleading. We may have lost to Pine Rivers by 2 points that year, but we played them 2 more times for 15 goal hidings. Having said that, our 2009, 2010 and 2014 teams would give our 2011,12,13 sides hidings too!

Some years we have had a strong top 10-15 and the made up of guys who have never played before, other years we have had a solid 22 and others we have only had 5-10 regulars then begged borrowed and stolen to field 22 players. This year, the guys who finished 2nd in our 2013 B&F wasn't selected for the Semi Final, despite being available and we also had 4-5 other first choice players unavailable, so that probably gives insight into the change in standrd from year to year, just for one club.

I think our best 22 would beat most mobs in QAFA A, but its irrelevant because our best 22 may never even make it on the field, certainly not regularly.

Reminds me of 2008 when we were the Magpies 3rds in a 9 team comp. We finished 5th and missed finals. We played 8 games vs the Top 4 for 5 wins, 2 draws and a 1 point loss - and played the teams from 6th to 9th 8 times for 2 wins and 6 losses.... week to week consistency is not a strong point, mainly due to availability of personnel

I look at Sandgate this year and I love watching them play because they remind me of us! Bunch of blokes who just want a kick and some weeks they might have a great 22, others they will rock up with 17 blokes and a dog. Thats exactly how we have always been, and could be again.

Rocking up to a qualifying final with 20 guys and someone's grandpa is just classic stuff. Same as us in our 1 final last year...

Agree pointless argument the best players in this comp have been stars in some previous seasons at QAFL level, the reason we are all playing here in QAFA B Central is Friday night footy and the social aspect the other is that some clubs don't have the numbers for magoos...It's getting a better standard collectively because a fair few of the better players have decided to have a kick for those reasons instead of giving it away...Plus I think Zillmere last year lifted the bar on the whole comp by playing all those veteran jets and smashing everybody...

I think this div is a tough gig. Every year a big club tends to drop down and smash everyone. Zillmere strathpine caloundra etc etc . Maybe even wynnum
Hey a fan, I like this guy.

This pains me ;) but I whole heartily agree with hawk and thommo. We could argue till the cows come home, and still have the same result. How about we all just play some good footy on the weekend and put a good show :)

Glad to read some common sense and not blokes comparing their members and who they think has the best one... The league has some terrific players who 4 years ago would of been far better players than they are now. The fact they can get to have a game and enjoy themselves should be enough, not using their names to compare sides with a completely different league, where most sides train twice a week and most players play every week.

In dry conditions with Forbes and Widt both playing, could go either way.

should be a good game. Don't think I can be bothered going to Collingwood Park to watch though!

As for the divisional comparisons, I think Thommo is making some sense. While the best sides in the league will be extremely good when they have everyone available and going, they might find it hard to compete in a higher league for an entire season given their lack of training an irregular availability.

But on that note, Thommo/Northsider - will the Woodsmen be changing it up a bit next week and bringing in more qualified guys? Hammill, McDonal for example? Adding those 2 would make you untouchable.

Short answer to that QAFL is 'no'.

While there is likely to be some changes to our lineup with a couple of handy and fresh inclusions, we won't be calling on guys that haven't been part of our core group all season as it is unfair on the the regular players and not what we are about as a club.

They only play when we are short, which hopefully for a GF we won't be!

(and I need to save a spot for me somewhere!)

I want a woodsman v Sandgate final. But not sure if Sandgate will have the legs in the last quarter. Sandgate have to hit hard in the middle which will take McCoy and Vaughn not out of play but definitely the impact they will have on the game. Will be a good game though.

Except Zillmere is the only team that has ever come along and smashed everyone.

Then only undefeated premiers this league has had have been Jimboomba in 2010, Zillmere in 2013 and possibly Woodsmen in 2014.

The difference being that while Jimboomba were undfeated in 2010, they did have some close hitouts, just as Woodsmen have had a few reasonably tough contests this year.

Nobody got within 10 goals of Zillmere last year, or if they did - they flooded and lost by 7 goals instead.

100 point win in a prelim final and all without their best defender who is sitting at home sick as a dog.
I might not get my position back for grand final.
Great effort boys
Mate, goldy has your spot covered. Nah it just clicked tonight and all 22 went hard. Being one next week.

Well done to wynnum on the win. Didn't think it would be that much of a win. Woodsmen v wynnum grand final. I can't change my views on last time they met. Woodsmen hit to hard and can only imagine they will hit harder in a final. Takes out McCoy and Vaughn. But wynnum have more run and better skills. Woodsmen 2 goals.

On another note, votes have been listed. Mika from woodsmen only polling 1 vote??? Clearly this states that it is not an accurate assumption of the B&F in the comp... But then again he does appear to mouth off far to much. Fair to say Wynnum boys dominated.

Mika doesn't really mouth off, its just that he spent 10 years as Seniors Captain at the Western Magpies, so was probably pretty used to having running and open dialogue with the umpires.

He's not the captain of our side, but it might be 'fair' to say that open dialogue has continued :)

We're happy with the result - 17 players polled votes and we collected 85 votes on the night out of a possible 96 available. Fair effort to only have 11 votes polled against you for an entire season. I think it shows the depth of the squad, especially given that 2 of our top 4 vote getters aren't even playing finals.

22 didn't go in hard, come on everyone has seen wynnum play. But in all fairness you guys turned up and played great running footy.
The umpiring was absolutely farcical. A complete joke and they should be embarrassed. Free kick count about 35-10.
Early injuries definitely hurt us, but that is something we are accustomed to. Our inspirational caption josh (the rat) Claydon couldn't carry us in the last half due to a hartstring ;)

Good luck in the GF

Ok, so wynnum have 3 of the top 5 players, and woodsmen are playing one of the top 5 in the finals, should that not mean wynnum are favourites? But then 17 woodsmen players got votes, bit scary.

Wynnum winning by so much is showing they are peaking. Good timing. Apart from that thommo bloke, woodsmen seem quiet, calm before the storm?

Seems like woodsmen do have some depth in their 22, will be a good final. One worth watching. Fringe players could decide this final.

Good on Sandgate on their first year in the comp. At the end of the day the two best sides are playing in the final. But even though Sandgate lost by 100 points they proved themselves as a quality team and hopefully have built a culture where more guys will join next year so they aren't struggling for numbers. My team got pumped most weeks but still enjoyed atmosphere of the games. All teams should encourage their players to get to the final and watch wynnum ( the best drilled side who trains more like a div 2 team than a 4 ths team. ) v woodsmen ( who according to their Facebook page. Get no one to training and struggled for numbers most weeks. ). Can't wait for this game.

You obviously played in that game last night ?? As for the umpiring, that chick that umpired seemed ok, but that bearded bloke has to be the dad of one of the Wynnum players, seriously??? That guy is a dead set joke, and should be told to go back and umpire kids footy. Like under 8's. He is never any where near the play, doesn't try and keep up with the game and I'm not actually sure he knows the rules ?? He went for a pie and coke at half time too. Can understand that you guys would have been very frustrated. When you guys went hard at the footy and hard at the man in the third quarter, Wynnum went in to their shells. Pity that you left it until the third quarter to do that. Enjoy Mad Monday !!
