What's your thoughts on Broadbeach coach awarded coach of the year ?
Labrador coach goes thru undefeated in his first season & I would've thought the premiership coach is the Coach of the year but I know it's announced pre Grand final.

Labrador kept nearly all their playing list from last year, plus get Barry Hall..... with a quality list like that , I could coach them to a flag !!!!... LOL.

I think coach of the year going automatically to the premiership coach is a little primitive in thinking. My experience is that the premiership coach is nearly always coaching the most talented team at our level. Broadbeach going on wins alone certainly improved the most but I would challenge that they also recruited more senior players than they have for a long time too. However they also had a heap of talented young kids exposed as well so I would be ok with that.

On a side note and without continuing the debate around events of the past 3 weeks - I thought it was outstanding leadership by the Labrador players who protested to the unruly, ignorant and totally inappropriate chastising from the crowd on Saturday. I did not hear any racial remarks directly - only from others that relayed comments etc.

I think the whole carry on has been disappointing and completely immature.

Burge is an absolute gun. While wise, Payne and co got the attention accolades at southport. This bloke just went about quietly week after week getting the footy and dominating. He won a stack of best and fairests their. Champion player and well deserved

Totally agree. A huge asset for palmy to get.

Big call Gazza

There was general banter from the sidelines definitely no racial remarks towards sansbury. Stop trying to degrade our club.

BA was yelling out the palmy people who would be their captain next weekend. A real class act. Not surprising coming from him

So no racial remarks you say?

On the behalf of the Labrador Football Club we would like to apologise for an incident that occurred at our home ground on the weekend. A comment was made from our supporters area to a Broadbeach player, with racial tones.

To the Broadbeach player we are sorry. We as a football club respect you, not only as a great footballer, but also the leadership you provide to indigenous footballers.

We do not condone this behaviour and we take this opportunity to remind spectators of your responsibilities when attending our games. I have attached the spectator code of conduct, as a reference, but in general please show respect for our game, it's players, officials, spectators and yourself. There are no winners from a situation like this.

We would like to praise the actions of two of our leaders who took an immediate stand against the incident.

Take this as a first and final warning, you will be banned from entering our ground and clubhouse should we become aware of any such incident.

Justice. Common sense prevails in the end

Common sense after seeing the tackle would say 4weeks .
Forget Derricks previous record & supposedly good character, if Barry Hall did that tackle on a Palm Beach player you would've wanted Hall banned for life.

Yeah Broadbeach may have not done themselves any favours by appealing the original decision but Palm Beach have also acted like a pack of sooks, would of Palm Beach taken the same action if it was one their reserves players?

The League has now set e precedent that if a player is rubbed out for a Grand Final then just threaten them that the matter will be taken to the High Supreme Court & the AFLQ will buckle.

Aflq shot themselves in the foot. From what I heard the appeal didn't run in accordance with the state rules. That is why PBC weren't happy and why the upholding of the appeal was thrown out.

As for the previous post about the racial remarks. I couldn't agree more. It only takes a couple for things to turn sour. So must give your club and players credit for stepping in.

Best thing to do now is move on and look forward to Saturdays game

It's a brutal game isn't it Ablett. Wow haven't things changed when a tackle with no malice is worth 3-4 weeks suspension.

4 weeks for that tackle Ablett is a ridiculous comment. There was no more malice in that tackle than any other tackle during the finals series. You need to move on and focus on the game this week.
I agree fleet footed Ablett needs to get over it saying derrick should get 4 weeks for that given his good record and all is ludacris. Obviously have no idea about the game Ablett and are still bitter over something

Looking forward to a big day on Saturday. Haven't been as involved in QAFL this year as I've moved back to me grass roots club, but always keen to keep an eye on the comp.

This whole saga this week with Jesse Derrick is bazaar from my point of view. Both clubs did what they felt was needed to make right, so I can't blame either of them. I'm disappointed to hear that hostilities between clubs have come to accusations of racial based remarks (Don't know if its true, first I hear of it was BigFooty which lets face it, isn't always precise)

I certainly thinks this builds the hype a bit towards a captivating Grand Final.

From my past experience in QAFL, I'm going to go with Labrador by 4 goals (Conservative approach)

Must say... with all the dramas that have occurred in the past 3 weeks ,,( plenty of explosure in the media ), with PBC knocking off a undefeated Labrador the other week , and with the game being played on the Gold Coast ( not yeronga ), I feel there will be a huge crowd at Southport on Saturday ... ( by qafl standards ) The past 2 grand finals have seen some 2100 to 2300 in attendence,,,, it would not surprise me to see some 3000 there on Saturday .

Add in the Barry hall factor too. Think it should be a given there will be 3000.

Yeah should b a cracker after a pretty topical build up off field.dont think the second semi final loss will be playing on labradors minds and will tip them to win gf by 27 points

Left early to get back home to watch the AFL, but really a disappointing GF. Palmy all over Labrador from the opening bounce. The deeper midfield dominated and they were able to hit targets and apply greater pressure all day. In truth a 4 goal - nil first 1/4 into the wind had the game just about done at 1/4 time.

Pretty good crowd when you include those in the clubhouse. Estimated 3000 about 1000 more than the typical yeronga crowd. A much better venue than yeronga, more parking, more elevated viewing areas, food vans etc. a well organised day.
